Games Market Europe UK Event Cancelled For 2006

Games Market EuropeIn the wake of E3's announced overhaul, the Games Market Europe (GME) retail game trade event has been put on hold until 2007. This year's GME was supposed to take place on September 6th-7th.

A joint statement from the organizers Tandem Events and PR firm Barrington Harvey states: "As industries evolve so do the events that serve them and nothing demonstrates this more than the recent changes to E3 in the US. Whilst the Games Market Europe event format has previously proved popular in the UK, a decision has been taken to postpone this year's GME until 2007."

It continues: "In doing so, it gives us the chance to review the timing and specific format to ensure we deliver a high quality event in 2007 that reflects the UK games industryÂ’s needs."

With the GME's cancellation, the UK is left without any retail or consumer games event in 2006. This is quite a ways from the heydays of the European Computer Trade Show (ECTS). In the mid 90's, the ECTS was by far the largest European games expo and was comparable to both the Tokyo Game Show and E3.

# Games Convention LeipzigGuest 2006-08-16 22:56
the biggest european games expo is "games convention". with more visitors than e3 - 130 000 (GC Germany) compared with 60 000 (E3 USA) and 160 000 (TGS Japan). GC takes place in leipzig, germany from 24. to 27. this month. the tokyo game show 2006 will be held on september 22–24 at makuhari messe in chiba, japan. why not mention this in your article?
