Games For Heroes: requesting handhelds for troops in Iraq, Afghanistan |
Ó
Wondering what you're going to do with your spare Sony PlayStation Portable or Nintendo DS? If we're to make a suggestion, you may want to donate them to the Games For Heroes charity movement, a registered donor of the MarineParents.com group.
Founded by Peter Gallagher and Jack Wilson, Games For Heroes basically aims to send handheld video game systems to the U.S. Marines stationed in either Iraq or Afghanistan.
The console you send in doesn't have to be brand new, so long as it works and comes with its batteries (and lest we forget - its charger). At the moment, the foundation's goal is to collect a total of 10,000 handhelds, batteries, and games.
If you're interested, or happen to know somebody who is, you'll want to read the Games For Heroes FAQ, available via the source link below.

Why shouldn't the troops have some fun too?
However, i would be more inclined to send the guys a GB Micro over a PSP or DS. Because, of it's size and it's durablility. It would seem like a better complement to where they are in terms of climate and environment. The psp may be a bit fragile and the DS, while more durable, has the easily misplaced stylus.
How bout giving DS' to the kids they put in the hospital.
If I were a soldier I would probobly rather have a PSP.

i doubt many of them prefer to stomp goombas over violent shooting games anyway.
Giving the hospitalised kids a ds/psp/ or even an older gba sp would be an awesome gifts for the kids.
I think you should submit your idea over to GFH and see what they think. I also agree that PSP is definitely more geared towards the troop audience. People forget about the innocent kids who get hurt in these battles. Most of them have never even seen a psp or ds before. Great idea!
I completely agree.
The kids aren't the only ones. I mean, there are plenty of adults who'd rather not be fearing for their safety daily (especially the ones who support neither side in the war; i.e. the invaders nor the insurgents).
Remember: not every adult male is a terrorist in Iraq, despite what the media makes you think... I mean, there are female terrorists, too; and males who would rather be left alone. To assume that all males are combatants is just stupid; yet many people believe it's the case. lol.
