Richard Joseph. Taken from http://www.remix64.com/images/gallery/bitlive/richard_joseph_2.jpg - Image 1It's another sad day for gaming, folks, as yet another games sound composer has passed away. Euro Gamer reports that Richard Joseph, one of the industry's pioneers, passed away just yesterday after a brief battle with lung cancer. He was 53.

Richard Joseph was a legend in the gaming industry, with over 20 years in the business. He's known as one of the earliest users of real voices in games, as well as being noted for being one of the first users of interactive music in games. Joseph also won an award for Best Audio from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) for his audio in Theme Park World, a feat which, to date, hasn't been repeated by a small-format soundtrack.

Suffice it to say that he was a big part of gaming when our parents were gamers, and remained a faithful mainstay of gaming music till his untimely passing. Gamers, let's give him a heartfelt salute, for he shall be missed by all who heard music in games.

Chaos engine and speedball 2 had some of the best music ever. A great talent who will be sadly missed.

» RIP

Yeah it really saddens me when something like cancer takes a brilliant soul.

I'd like to think it's natures way of culling the heard and that possibly useful creatures would be left out, but it doesn't seem to be the case....

Of course artists have to smoke like crazy....

» Listened to it earlier today...

I loaded up CF in UAE, the Amiga emulator, and watched the intro then sat and listened to that awesome music on the main screen with a tear in my eye.
