Mobile publisher Gameloft has announced a brand new timed-exclusive Xperia Play title, BackStab.

The upcoming action/adventure thriller, set on an 18th century Caribbean island, follows the story of Henry Blake, who was falsely accused of treason and will go to all means to seek revenge on his British captors. "With a game play mixing action and adventure, BackStab incorporates an open 3D environment for free roaming," notes the press release. "Coupled with dynamic combat systems and counter-attacks, missions include side quests and activities such as duels and races."

“We are truly excited to continue our support of Xperia Play with an exclusive release of BackStab, bringing the action adventure experience to a new level,” said Gonzague de Vallois, senior vice president Publishing of Gameloft. “We already have a strong line-up for Xperia Play and its capabilities as a fully enabled smartphone with dedicated gaming controls make this device one powerful contender in the gaming space.”

“We are delighted that Gameloft have chosen to launch this stunning new title first on Xperia Play. BackStab sets a high benchmark graphically and technically for gaming on a smartphone and it is a fantastic addition to the fast growing portfolio of quality releases for Xperia Play”, said Steve Walker, Head of Marketing for Sony Ericsson.

BackStab will be available to Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play for one month when it releases on Q2 2011. No word yet if it will eventually land on the PSP.

Xperia Play will be available in the UK next week and will land in the US in "early spring."

Xperia's Play price is a backstab already, now there's a game with the same name. :P

I thought it's priced like any regular smartphone.

A regular phone costs £500? I thought they'd just cost less than £50.

Better wait for NGP or buy a real mobile phone.

I'm beginning to getting more inclined for 3DS, but I'll wait.

# Xperia Play isn't importantThatOtherGuy 2011-03-23 08:25
What is important is the Playstation Suite and Playstation Certified features. These will most likely be implemented into more phones in the future and we're probably likely to see phones with a more gaming oriented slidefunction etc. I'm really looking forward to what will happen in both the mobile world and with NGP (3G version). ^^
