News-hopping all over the internet, you may have come across an article or two about this massive full-size Gundam watching over the city of Tokyo over the past couple of weeks. It's huge, it's awesome, and I bet the Japanese sleep better at night knowing they have a big-ass robot to save the day from terrorist attacks. Yes, this big guy isn't just a massive scarecrow to fend-off evildoers - it moves. Video here to show you how.

Okay, so it's just a few turns of the head, making it look like the mecha is scanning the horizon for signs of invading evildoers. This life-size RX-78 is part of the Green Tokyo Gundam Project, a celebration of the highly-successful Gundam's 30th anniversary. And because that thing looks too awesome for one vid, here's another one:

How about some Gundam videos?

» Where's my Damn Gundam

Why can't the UK get anything like this? All we get is Nelson's Column and the Angel Of The North. Actually i'd prefer to see a full collection of life sized Transformers.

by Freya - 2009-06-17 15:27
» wow.

Dude that is so kick ass. Now just get it to walk, run, fly, shoot lazer beams and you're set.

by Cortador - 2009-06-17 15:34
» Hmmm

For people who don't know, this gundam was the first gundam model to be ever seen on anime.

by witorit92 - 2009-06-17 15:46
» Really ???

that would be cool

by MADMAN-_-zZ - 2009-06-17 16:36

They are sending this over to North Korea so I heard

by Eclipze_ - 2009-06-17 17:00
» O_O

The 50th anniversary, that'll make one where a guy can go inside and make it walk and move around lol

That would be amazing, but I guess this is good enough for now.

by TheLastGuitarHero - 2009-06-17 17:24
» ...

That was awesome.

by fearlubu - 2009-06-17 17:52
» hmmm

» Gundams > Transformers

anytime anywhere

by phiyuku - 2009-06-18 00:20
» So this is how the

Japanese build Gundam's right under our noses. After a while it would be able to move hands and legs and torso, then secret underground made giant weapons would be attached to him and then it's the end of the world as we know it with the Japanese ruling over the world.

by DrFreeman - 2009-06-18 04:17
» So true

Exactly what I was thinking! And the Americans also have had a secret weapon they've been waiting to deploy at the right time...The Statue of Liberty! The French have the Eiffel Tower which can uh...poke you? What do we British have uh? The Angel of the North?

Ok I'm officially bored.

Gundam ftw!

by James2k - 2009-06-18 06:48
» Woah

That kicks ass. God I love the Japanese

by xkiraisgodx - 2009-06-18 07:10
» you know....

If this thing could move (walk around, run, etc.), it would change warfare so much o_O....

by cloud505 - 2009-06-18 08:40
» ya

That seems like a big waste of money. I mean aren't there more important things that money could of been used for? Like feeding the poor, curing cancer e.t.c

by Walo - 2009-06-18 08:50
» ya right...

do you actually do any of that bs your talking about? What an hypocrite...

Hypocrisy aside, that thing looks astounding.

by apex05 - 2009-06-18 09:40
» Nah

Money could be used on better things, but who'd want to live in a world without crazy wonderful things like a life size Gundam.

by FulzerGen6 - 2009-06-18 11:44
» Moneyyyyyy

They could, but aren't obligated 2 do ***** 4 the poor.

by celebbb - 2009-06-18 12:41
» Those Japanize!

Indeed, that is a waste of money. If they can't seem to find a way to change its pose or stance, then whats the point, its not like its going to accomplish anything. Most likely, it will only ever be used to fall over and splatter people behind it. The money could have been better spent paying off America's debt than building some Anime thing.

by shyna66 - 2009-06-18 18:35
» nice...

ill volunteer anytime to operate one of those!

by pinoy_92 - 2009-06-19 01:13
» gundam 00

im so going to buy it....

just need a GN Drive and we can start our quest to eradicate war through armed interventions.

hehehe

by Solid Snicker - 2009-06-19 02:07
» .

lol what a waste of time watching that vid, all it did was move its head, i was expecting it to do something a BIT more exciting.

looks pretty good though, even if the money could have gone to a better cause.

by tsujinai - 2009-06-19 14:43
» cool

now all we need are some life size zaku's.

btw was hoping that it can actually like walk, but guess thats just too difficult. (matter of time before they launch the real deal behind everyones baks in secret. ;))

by tsujinai - 2009-06-19 14:51
» really?

dont see y japanese have to pay off american's debt, not like it has to do with them. btw everything starts with a prototype, today moving head, tmw laser shooting mecha.

and @ cloud505, there are alot more money wasting elsewhere than this structure, this can actually be profitable as tourist attraction.

by avatar76 - 2009-07-09 13:16
» LOL yeh right :)

They can barely make human sized robots walk let alone ones the size of a large building lol!

by avatar76 - 2009-07-09 13:25
» tsujinai agreed

The west for many years have been the ones with the money sending it through to the eastern countries. Now china and asia is lending more to the west and have all the funds while the west has struggled to match the low cost of life and high productivity of the east. It's not out of the question that Japan could bail out America but like tsujinai says from Japan's position why should they. Japan is just coming out of recession also, I doubt their government will be making any high risk investments.
