From GRIN to grim. Talk about wiping that grin off your face. The development team just bid goodbye through their site now that they've officially shut down as a result of "an unbearable cashflow situation." It ain't over yet though, ex-GRIN members got together and formed a new team, under which they'll be waving a new banner, Outbreak Studios.

GRIN was the development team that brought us Bionic Commando (Xbox 360, PS3), GRAW, Terminator: Salvation, and many others. "After twelve years of hard work, employing hundreds of wonderfully talented men and women, it is over. It has been a great adventure and the GRIN family has experienced what few have," said the post on their site.

Their last credits also cited "Too many publishers delaying their payments, causing an unbearable cashflow situation," to be the chief cause of the shutdown, although exempt to that list is Capcom US, which they thanked for its honesty, as well as a few select names from Ubisoft.

But just because the ship sank doesn't mean the crew has to die in it too. Enter Outbreak Studios, a new development team composed mainly of ex-GRIN members. Although they haven't mentioned specific projects this early in time, Big Download reports that they did indicate that the new team wants to develop titles for Games For Windows Live among other platforms.

GRIN wasn't doing so well:

So GRIN was shut down, and Outbreak Studios was born?

Is this just another way of saying they wrote their debts off, and in doing so, created 'unbearable cashflow situations' for other companies they were involved with?

Wrapping a company up takes a lot longer that 1 day. Anyone owed money will have been informed a while back.

I've had a client pop on me, and it wasn't a fun time - especially seeing the brochure I ended up designing for free, still circulating around the public.

Seems like stuff like this is the video game industry equivalent of abusing chapter 11

Shut down Old Game Studio, make New Game Studio with the same people and projects but none of Old Game Studio's debts. Gotta love it
