PSPgo - Image 1 Here's a piece of good news to the PSP homebrew community. Early last month, as some of you may recall, FreePlay has released a video showing us that he has successfully hacked Sony's latest handheld iteration that got everyone buzzing with excitement. Well, now he's back to give us a status update on his project. According to his YouTube channel post, he is now making progress on the exploit with his NID resolver working flawlessly, and if he can get the eLoader source to work, we may have a PSP Go eLoader soon that will allow us to run our favorite homebrews on the PSP Go.

Developer's note:

PSP Go exploit update: Making progress. My NID resolver is working flawlessly now. If I can get it to work with the eLoader souce, we'll have an eLoader for the Go.

Ok guys, that's all for now. Stay tuned for further updates.

It good to hear that there a hack for PSP Go. But the bad news is, He doesn't share his exploit right? Then how we gonna get his eloader ?

Maybe he will release the exploit soon together with the eloader. *Sony might waiting and looking at it to patch it.* O.o

i found a way to get eloader working on psp go in seconds just open the eloader folder thats in your game folder and open the file named loader1000.cfg and open it with notepad or some kind of typing application and in the file look for the directory like this ms0:/PSP/GAME/eLoader/emenu--.pbp
and change ms to ef and save it and turn your psp go on and run it and it works perfect!!

this is indeed a great news for the homebrew community. i always love playing the emulators especially when i've finished and bored playing with the psp games. :D

as for piracy, i wouldn't be surprise if someone would be able to load iso/cso sooner or later.

i'm also intrigue at how the exploit is executed and/or what game/s. xD

Good news indeed, be nice to play PSPRevolution on the Go.

I'm torn on the ISO issue though. I'd like to be able to go back to buying games and playing them digitally again (with a physical product to appease my desire for special editions and the like). I'd also like to play those games that aren't on PSN, like Pangya, not to mention imports like Gundam/Macross.

I know I can do that with my 2000/3000, but the portability of the Go makes the thought appealing.

I don't really want to see it get destroyed by Piracy either :/

Guess it'll be up to the community at large, but whatever, congrats to Freeplay for his usual sterling work :)

I'm also quite interested how this is gonna work. The only sure way that Sony can't patch is some way of free apps for the Go, like Go!cam software or Skype. You know, Software, that can be shared without the need of the PSN and that runs on every PSP.

I wonder why people keep acting like the PSP is big. My son lost his PSP the other day... and after a big search he found out he was carrying it with him in his pocket the whole day!

If the PSP wasn't portable then he surely would have noticed it. And btw, it was a phat...

As a bit of a collector I have a load of retro handhelds strewn throughout the office. Anyone who reckons the PSP isn't portable really needs to spend some time with the first Atari Lynx. Now THAT was a chunky (but still much loved by me) handheld ^^

Any PSP is pretty damn portable for the amount of power you can carry with you. It has to be said that the Go does a grand job in making it even smaller though.

That's a $250 emulator right there my friend. You could probably buy all of the original systems and games you would be emulating for that price.

# ^Teivin 2009-11-09 06:44
Well, thats a bit of a lie. Find a copy of Terranigma for less than like 80$.

What you could do for much cheaper is just buy a PXP (Which are fairly solid, I've seen a few) or a whiz or something similar.

Could I then carry my SNES with me on the train in the morning? Or play my Genesis on the airplane? Would I have to carry 500 NES cartridges with me? Obviously you could buy the systems themselves, but the point is portability.

Also, I don't know how you can justify telling someone else what constitutes a poor monetary decision. If the guy has $250 in excess money laying around, why shouldn't he spend it on something that interests him?

This one little piece of news will be directly responsible for me justifying the purchase of this machine.

I agree that better form factor and a sharper screen will always trump crappier form facter and a duller screen. I have always wanted a PSP-GO. Even long before it was released, I was begging for a smaller machine. But, when it showed up at $250 and no way to play the games that I enjoy(Metal Gear Acid anyone?), I was extremely disappointed. Multiply that by me losing all of my emulators and my daily use of Bookr for my .PDF reading, and it was easily a NO SALE situation.

NOW,

+ Emulators (very important as these are all the 'Minis' I will ever need) Particularly for GBA and SNES.

+ Bookr (Because I grow tired of just playing games all the time)

+ PSP-Rhythm

+ PSP.PDA (This should have been built in the GO.

+ PSP-Tube

Yes, I can part with $250 for this.

It resolves NIDs to syscalls. The game loads several modules, but it doesn't import all of the functions from those modules. Only the ones that are imported have known syscalls. That's a set of about 189. My NID resolver allows access to all of the syscalls for all of the NIDs in all of the modules loaded by the game, expanding the base set to about 670.

I could potentially make this work for any firmware that has been decrypted so far. The problem with the Go is that the DATA.PSAR in the update is a different format from that of the standard PSP, and it can't be decrypted with our current PSAR dumpers. The exploit is also blocked from copying several PRX files from flash0, since they're marked "hidden" and "system". Until I get those files, it's unclear whether or not I'll be able to make this work 100% on the Go. It's incredibly frustrating.

Here we are talking about justifying 250 dollars to play emulators on the PSP Go and well Im no smart guy or anything but doesnt the PSP Go has the same power as the PSP Slim 2000 model so well if you play emulators on the PSP go arent you going to get the same effect with the PSP slim I mean if the emulators play the same on the slim isnt it going to play on the go the same way so there is no ground breaking news there I mean the only thing I see is someone finally hacked the damn thing which is great but if you already have a slim and you know how the emulators play why buy the PSP Go???

He could get a good 1000 or 2000, it would be cheaper, a larger screen, and could play UMD games if he ever found one he wanted to play for cheap used along with all the emulators? And have money left over for other things that interest him.

I agree on the point that old games + systems are NOT cheap. I have a roommate who likes buying old games (in fact, just recently bought Terranigma), and the good old games often go for more than they were sold for originally in-store.

Oh you mean its for importing the unlinked syscalls and not for mapping the 3.5x NID to the randomized NID (since syscalls can't randomized either)?

Though "NID resolver" is still an apt name, you should have called it something else as people would confuse it with the kernel NID resolver.

"NID Linker" ?

the first thing that came to my mind was "oh... iso loader already on it's way" but wait... it doesn't need it anymore since it's all internal now right? Ironic really. Kind of funny how people were sh1ttin on the psp umds (of how unportable and slow loading it was) and now that they have GOT what they want, a legit no umd/internal loading psp.

I'm rather in the "YaY but no thanks" feeling as this is bound to go the wrong direction.

1 day ago he posted an update i do not know how you didnt see it when you wrote this article

anyway here it is

An eloader for the Go is proving to be more difficult than I'd imagined. I could likely make one for FW 5.03 or FW 5.50, but until someone cracks the Go's firmware update, it may be a lost cause. I have no way of making my NID resolver work when there are dozens of new functions on the Go that have completely unknown NIDs.

so the DATA.PSAR from the pspGos needs to be decrypted and you need to find out how to somehow un-hide certain files in the flash0

are those the only problem as of now?

well lets hope you or someone else manages to somehow create a psar dumper for the pspgo

# great news :)NakedFaerie 2009-11-10 00:39
As being a PSP GO owner I can say this is great news.

I miss my emulators and all the other homebrew that comes with a usermode hack.

If a kernelmode hack is found and ISO/CSOs are playable on the GO then that will be awesome. I will donate to the dev who creates that hack whoever it is.

I have brought a heap of overly expensive games from the PSN and I have a heap of UMDs that I don't want to pay for AGAIN so a ISO/CSO loader will be the best.

Yea, I have a few ISOs that I don't own only coz I cant buy them in this country as they are banned. (Manhunt 2 in Aus)

People saying the GO is crap its actually faster than the 1000 and 2000. Games do actually run faster and saving is about half a second where on the 2000 running ISOs still save in about 2-5 seconds.

The screen is better than the 1k/2k models too. Might be smaller but its a better picture.

And when you think the screen or the unit itself is too small then just connect a PS3 controller via bluetooth and connect it to the TV and you now have the smallest console on your TV. :)

# AgreedActeon 2009-11-10 02:53
I use the US PSN now, as it's half (if not more) the price of the UK store. The exchange rate is also improving ($1.67 to the £1 at time of writing).

The NIS sale was so awesome I almost cried, but I still don't like having to pay for games I've already purchased once, so an ISO loader would be fantastic. We're a long way off that though, if it ever happens at all.

Still, nowt wrong with a hacked earlier model after all :)

# Quick question to all dev's..demologik 2009-11-15 16:00
Has the encryption technology of SONY's proprietary DNAS been hacked?

If so, why can't the devs clone the ps store and upload the game to their own servers and then use a link similar to SONY's PS store from our PSP browsers to download the game that is required in order to hack our PSP go's? That way, the game can never be updated since the copy that contains the exploit is saved on a server other than SONY's! It's a win win solution.

# because...iluvfuz 2009-11-19 21:16
It makes a difference because you're not looking at the larger picture. The point is that the PSPgo is being hacked and there are multiple people working on it. Even if they won't release it, it's still being developed into something much bigger and better. That's how it's good news... Everything isn't about coming sooner.
