Forbes says women are into casual video games, too |
Ó
While men and women tend to differ from one another, they also have certain things in common. Interest in casual gaming appears to be one of them. According to Forbes, women are reportedly more likely to get into casual gaming than their male counterparts. For instance, statistics have revealed that 75% percent of those who pay for casual games are women. Furthermore, 72% of these ladies are over 35 years old.
With more women playing casual video games, it makes sense that developers and publishers are trying to catch their attention as well. Games with female protagonists such as Diner Dash (DS, PSP) and Wedding Dash cater to more than the usual 18-35 male gamer demographic.
Developers also tend to benefit from this setup. By doing away with fancy graphics and focusing on gameplay, companies can reach more gamers and still save money in the process. If anything, Forbes has only confirmed what an earlier scientific study has already discovered.

Uhh..Women play hardcore games too, so how is this new?
You know, these are actually exceptions.
What new to me was that 72% of these casual-gamer-women are over 35 years old!
Maybe this was only really noticed recently?
Exactly. All throughout my college and university years we'd have a nice equal split of male/female on most games. Some of the cult games (Streetfighter and friends) were mostly male. But Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Halo had members of the female species taking part.
It's just become a hot topic with the Wii and DS and their game market shaping strategy.
all the ladies like Nintendo wiis......
Don't forget all the men with feminine traits. Cute decorations, cute outfits, clothes shopping, taking 45 minutes fixing hair and getting ready to go out, overly simplistic gameplay, that's what the Wii owners love!
Sorta, doesn't the Wii have the closest 50/50 split with male and female gamers? Or something.
And besides, wouldn't it be feminine men who like the other consoles since they produce prettier visuals to look at and feel all pretty inside by?
Oh wait no, that was common sense...

straight from the experts mouth
My mom, sister, mom's friend, and aunt all play various different casual games, including Diner Dash and Bejewled!
Sadly, my sister is the only hardcore gamer outta my family, and a lot of the girls at my school either don't game, or are only into just GH, Halo, and casual games...
That may be different when I head to a game development college though

HAHA you guys crack me up....
Uh, I like realistic games. Good graphics enhance how realistic they are. There's plenty of games like that on the 360 and PS3. How is that gay? Please explain your halarious joke.
The Wii is home to cooking mama, sonic and mario olympics, wii sports, nothing remotely realistic (or fun in my opinion.)
Dude your the idiot who started the "Men with feminine traits" garbage, so why you asking why people are saying your gay?
No offense, but the Wii is very gay. Just look at the majority of the games.
You see ta ladies like wiis so there even more of an insentive to own one. But i guess thats why you dont have one MISTER SENSE!! XD
whats so wrong with nintendo selling a much more affordable system with INBETWEEN GRAPHICS!!!!!!! Look at Mario galaxy that game has the detail and color of a 360 game! and Smash bros is definitly something that no last gen console could ever hope to have pulled of graphically or otherwise
Smash Brothers Brawl is graphically the same as the Gamecube version. New characters, new small 2D levels, and online, wow. Mario Galaxy has barely any graphical improvment over Mario Sunshine. Not even close to a 360 game, even at launch.
