Florida Bar finds Jack Thompson guilty of misconduct

Florida lawyer Jack Thompson certainly had it coming: the anti-gaming activist got served, being found guilty of 27 out of 31 charges against him. For those who haven't been following the anti-gaming circus and the ensuing court proceedings against Thompson's behavior, the lawyer earned the ire of many colleagues and gamers by pulling outrageous stunts to make his stand against video games known.

The presiding judge, Judge Dava Tunis, ruled Jack Thompson as guilty for several charges, which include:

Knowingly making a false statement of material fact or law to a tribunal
Knowingly disobeying an obligation under the rules of a tribunal
Communicating the merits of the case with a judge before whom the proceeding is pending
Using means that have no purpose other than to embarrass, delay or burden a third person
Engaging in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation
Engaging in conduct in connection with the practice of law that is prejudicial to the administration of justice, including to knowingly or through callous indifference disparage or humiliate litigants or other lawyers
Making statements that the lawyer knows to be false or with reckless disregard as to the truth or falsity concerning the qualifications or integrity of a judge

That's not the end of Thompson's woes, however, with a hearing about possible sanctions for Thompson scheduled on June 4, and Judge Tunis' full report to the Florida Supreme Court due on September 2.

He's not the only one that's after the same "prize". Many organizations want to see mature rated games only being sold to 17+.

What Florida is going to miss out on now on their local news channels is this guys outrageous antics. No more morning or nightly laughter because of this guy.

I have to disagree. Jack Thompson's actions in the past appear to be directed more toward the "mature games should not exist" spectrum. Only recently has it appeared that he was taking the battle to the store level. This is just my assumption based on memory, however, and is subject to flaws. I, personally, am of the opinion that Mature rated games should not be sold to minors without parental consent. I believe the ESRB rating system needs more positive press and should be followed by retailers the same way Movie ratings are. I know my local GameStop stores already do this and it is a good thing. I am not against Mature rated games. In fact, if not for violent games I would not have an adequate outlet to vent my frustrations.

... tieing up the judicial system with B$ about vidgames should be criminal. He's wasted game-developer company's and taxpayer $$$. He's abused his position in the already sketchy legal system and cost everyone in his zealous pursuit of his prize ambulance.

I was in the court room and heard the judge lay down the charges. The most important charge not listed above was the execution charge. It is possible that Jack Thompson will face the death penality by means of lethal injection.

I started playing video games back when the NES was brand new. Developers want me to keep playing games, so they make games more appropriate for my age. Games are like movies now. I don't believe that Scarface is appropriate for a 14 year old, nor do I believe that GTA is. I do believe that the industry, retailers and the public need to understand that games are not just games anymore, they are an entertainment medium on par with movies. In fact, it is even more important that parents pay close attention to what games their children play as opposed to the movies they watch because of the interactive element of games, making the experience more personal. This dude is a nut, but parents NEED to get the message and raise their children, not stick them in front of the TV with any game they say they want and let that babysit them.

I was under the understanding that J@T Took and Passed his BAR in The state of Florida. If thats the Case then if he is Disbared in FL He will not beable to practice law in the US unless he goes to another state and retakes and passes the BAR. I could be wrong but it seems like something more sensacle.

And yea he faces no Jail Time but Hopefully he does Face Larger Penaltys than Disbaring
