Fine, no PSP price cut... but more games, more "value"

How are you spending the holidays with your PSP?

It's been said again and again: the PSP will not get a price cut. [insert collective sigh] But the higher-ups of Sony sure are eyeing some other avenues that will please the fans. Product manager John Koller has this to say: "We don't necessarily see the need to cut the price. We need to offer broader value and introduce new consumers to what the PSP can do."

Koller says that there's going to be a line-up of around 110 new titles that'll be available between now and the end of the year. People who still don't own a PSP just might buy into that and get the handheld because of these new games. And since the device is a powerhouse that allows you to play games, download videos, and play media files, holiday shoppers would still bite into the "uncut" price of the PSP.

But wait... there's more. There's already been (heated) talks about how the PSP will integrate with the upcoming PS3. Koller adds that they're going to release more details about it soon. Won't that boost up sales for the handheld console? To think some people even said the PSP has already "failed"... Really? Has it? Ah. We haven't seen nothing yet...

Because who knows? While the PSP won't get a price cut, maybe they'd release a PS3-PSP bundle pack for the holidays... Double whammy like whoa. Hurry up, Sony!

Buy: [PSP Value Pack]

» BUNDLE?!?!?

are you serious?? they should give a psp to people buying a ps3.

sigh.. that would definatly be a desperation move on sonys behalf..

» WTF? OMFG!

the article is broken.

it wont let me insert collective sigh!

now my psp is bicked :(.

» Paid 75

I only paid 75 for my psp. I won it at Dave and Busters.

by lavino - 2006-10-05 17:16
» yeah "introduce new customers" ...

By making a pink one. Good call SONY! Now all the chics will want one to go along with their Parda bags. Honestly even with a price cut it is not gonna help. The problem is not in the PSP itself but rather the crappy games offered as well as how buggy they are. Also, way to go on deciding what game not to release to the US like Gundam Battle Royale, Talkman etc. I am sure that you guys all know the best that stupid white guys don't like those and won't play those or they are too l33t for us to figure out how to play. Here's a hint, at least try to bring in more 'educatinal' games so that moms and dads will think they can use it to teach their kids something worthwhile...

Honestly, if they were going to have a price cut even two weeks from now do you think they would willingly admit it and potentially damage their sales between now and then?

» hey

is not my fault you love a japanese company... the are japanese, they release stuff for their own country... if you think it sucks so much start loving xbox...

but microsoft is a monopoly pretty much... like wal mart and mcdonalds... and I dont like them too much... mabie a little, but not too much

by J - 2006-10-05 22:25
» 110?

I totaly agree that the PSP needs more games, but it relly needs more high quility games. My question about this article though is the 110 new games before the end of the year. That mean we are going to get 30 new games a month? i see that as very unlikely and completly impossible in the UK.

well, theyre sure doing a great job! *sarcasm*

They're probably counting the PS1 emulator titles they're going to release.

And probably counting those gay classic pack games as individual, too. Like having Sonic 1-15 on there with Golden Axe and crap and counting each individual one as a game. Sony has a history of BS-ing things with enough truth to sound believable.

Like their beloved use of the term 'shipped' instead of 'sold'. "Sony has shipped seven million PSPs!" Oh really? Well I shipped ten billion used pieces of gum to Wal-mart. Doesn't mean anybody bought them.

And let's not forget their 'six degrees of motion' controller.

I love my PSP, but I'm really getting tired of two things:

High game prices and lack of online playability.

When I have to pay $45 for a game that was on PS2 two years ago and can't even play against other people around the world even after a two-year product life when the PSP has been online compatible since launch, there is really no excuse and it sickens me to no end.

Btw, such bad grammar, QJ "We haven't seen nothing yet..." A double negative? Come on, you should know better.

» wow... look...

all those bargin films and games that are put in the bargin bins... I'm up for it... make my day Sony!!! released at full price then a couple of weeks half the price... seeing it already!!... trust me its going closer towards the dead option more than the It's Alive!!!

by nothanks - 2006-10-06 00:59
» a psp-ps3 bundle?

thats will cost, what, like $900 without games? Yeah right, what *****ing moron would ever buy that?

» Wake up #8

Xboxes are made in China you idiot. So much for an "American" company. They all want your $$$. Wake up and smell IT.

» More games, Cheaper UMD movies

I agree that with the release of more (and consistantly better) games, customers will come. Price is not an issue when you have a lot of value, but the PSP is a game system first and foremost. They need to really jump on that...

And lower the prices on those damn UMD movies!

what is the protector beings used in the picture.. please tell me. it looks good

» AHHHHHHH!

Haven't you jackasses figured it out yet?! The reason people bought their damn PSP's in the first place is for GAMES, not those nice perks. The web-browser? RSS? GPS? All CRAP. If I want to browse the net, I'll save myself an hour of page loading and find a computer! The GPS thing? WHO *****IN CARES?! My cell phone can do it 10x better. Just give us some *****ing games to play!

Now I'll bet you're thinking that I'm some retarted, dillusional Nintendo fanboy, but I'm actually one of the poor bastards who bought a PSP when it came out. The launch titles came...then...GTA, Socom, and Burnout...then...nothing. Homebrew is AMAZING. That's the only thing keeping me from eBaying my PSP, but the folks at Sony seem to think that I'm using it to break the law somehow...WHY IN PLUPERFECT HELL WOULD I FILL MY 1G MEMORY STICK WITH A BIGASS ISO FILE?? I have to install these useless-ass "upgrades" to play GTA, or whatever game I might wanna try out, or just wait for the next downgrade to come out...ARGGGGGHHHHHH!

I've been patient enough...I'm just getting REALLY pissed. It's like Sony doesn't even care about the people who bought their expensive-ass machine... (Yeah, $250 is a LOT for a portable, especially when it doesn't come with ANY internal memory.). I've been patiently supporting the PSP ever since it was shown off at E3 2004, constantly stressing how much better than the DS it was... I'm just REALLY sick of Sony's whole being stupid-ness...Such a pain in the ass. I love playing Tekken, Lumines, and Burnout, along with the kickass homebrew stuff...but that can only take a gaming machine so far. WHAT's coming out for it this winter? Sure MGS = ZOMG! *****IN AWESOME, but that's ALL THERE IS. (Killzone = blah-looking)

Wow. That was a pretty epic-in-length rant from someone who still thinks the PSP is "better" than the DS...but still...ITS SO DAMN FRUSTRATING to watch Sony do this *****...

Agree 100%. Lower the prices on the games and make them online, too.

There's no need to have a game the same price as a PS2. Just nonsense.

» well

well if you don't like sony or microsoft(i really hate sony , i have my reasons , and microsoft really only has maybe 3 or 4 great game series)why not stick with nintendo?they have got some great stuff coming for Wii.i have no clue wat $ony thought they where doin copying the motion sensors from the Wii remote. $ony is really gay!(i have a psp and i only use it to play homebrew)ninten do has great games besides the fact they have lots of sequels, but now developers are actually opening they're eyes.P$3 will be away to much especially if they have a bundle which may be around $1000

for P$3 and P$P.and not to mention how much both systems games are >:-O .games like star wars battlefront II was $50 dollars while it was $20 on Ps2 and it didn't have online play......hope sony blows up!
