Final Fantasy's Advent Children Finally Arrives On US Shores |

An English-speaking Cloud and the rest of the survivors of Midgar have now docked at Uncle Sam's ports (assuming that you read this today - April 24). A night's rest is all that's needed before we finally get our hands on American UMD copies of the highly anticipated straight-to-movie sequel of Final Fantasy VII.Before, the only way to get copies of these were via imports, and even that is subject to a lot of conflicts. First off, the ordered copy cost the PSP owner around $40 USD - shipping not included. After finally having mom agree to cough up the dough, the expectant gamer disappointingly finds out that the version he imported lacks English subtitles not only from its special features (if he's totally unlucky) but for the whole movie itself. Fortunately for little Timmy (brace for the sarcasm), he won't find out that the English subtitles are missing because he won't be able to play it in the first place - since the disc will only be playable on Japanese PSPs due to its region-coded (for the Japanese market) content. I won't go to the part where mom finds out that the UMD bought was useless (that scene is pretty ugly).
So naturally, a few American FF fans rejoiced after being informed that the movie is about to ship to the states (American-coded of course). The delight multiplied exponentially when reports leaked out that aside from having English titles, the sequel will be dubbed to the English language - with quite famous personalities such as Rachael Leigh Cook (Tifa Lockhart) lending their voices.
As for the movie itself (I'm trying my best not to leak out too much spoilers), a series of to-drool-over action scenes faithful to the actual game are aplenty. The characters and realms are very detailed with uber fluid movements and effects. You know the plot right? It takes place two years after Sephiroth has been pawned by Cloud and his FF7 troop, thus preventing the fall of Gaia. The movie's very first scenes show the ruins of Midgar, with survivors looking for a new way of living; Tifa enters contemplating a new life; and Cloud lays down his sword and Fenrir to follow a life of solitude; peace is abruptly disturbed when a group of enemies collaborate to bring back the most evil of Midgar (yes, "him" - not the one from Townsville though) back to life... Oops, too much info, better watch it yourself, you only have to wait until tomorrow anyway.

i already have the japanese UMD (as its the same region as the UK, and my psp is japanese anyway XD)
and i just picked up the UK UMD and the UK DVD today....the dirge of cerberus trailer is cool, and yes, vincent has a phone in dirge trailer so i guess he picked one up.
BTW the UMB requires 2.6 for the UK version at least :(

Finally. Anybody know how much the US DVD is going to go for in stores?
I will definitely be interested in purchasing a copy of this movie, but first I need to know a few things:
1. Is this movie going to be distributed in DVD format? I would rather watch it on a 21 inch monitor than the PSP's screen.
2. Has the North American version been censored a bit more than the Japanese version? If so, then to what degree?
3. What types of special features would be included in the North American version?
i've already watched this a long time ago on dvd. Just bite the bullet and upgrade to 2.6...90% of the homebrew is useless unless your psp is attached to your *****

Get the DVD, then recode. Saves money, and no region bullcrap.

My friend brought it into school, from Japan. One kickass movie!!!
I saw the fansub almost a year ago and loved it. I was hoping that when it was dubbed it'd be treated well. However, after seeing a four-minute clip of the english dub via IGN, I now have a headache.
The voiceacting was horrible from what I saw. No one sounded like their original voices (Loz's voice is too light, Kadaj talked too much like a regular teen, etc). And it lacked the enthusiasm of the original.
Of course, if you're used to watching everything in english you probably won't mind it any more than you do regular dubbing on anime.
However, if you're like me and like things kept as close to the original as possible, then you may be in for a dissapointment if the four minute clip serves as a sample of what the rest of the movie was like.

That IGN clip was horrible. Not personality in the voice, the ridiculousness of how things sound in english "Don't Cry." "We must find, mother."
It just sounded weak. The japanese sounded much better, the depth to the voices, etc. The english voice actors sound like pissants. Was very disappointed.

I Love the whole FF series...and i really liked advent children...but...i hate dubbing. They always screw up as 23 said. So i might not even buy this.
the subs are off too, i can understand basic japanese and it seems what is said in japanese is mickey moused in to some crappy english version. like a certain character at the end as she walks out the church, says "everythings ok now isnt it" not what she mumbled, and clous says "hitori ja nai" which is im not alone, not what cloud mumbles for a couple of sentances at the end

the subs are a bit off, im glad i didnt actually buy the r1 dvd of it (cough) i'll stick with my fansub where the subs actually make more sense, and represent what the characters are actually saying
dont get me wrong though, FF7:AC is great, a truely excellent piece of work, but yet again, as soon as the americans get thier hands on something, they ***** it up and dumb it down
If the UMD version is cheaper than the DVD, then, i'll buy the UMD version. If not, then, screw that.

No. 19 about lated it down short...This is much more enjoyable on a big screen, not too mention how awesome it would look in plasma. I really don't see the point in forking out money for the UMD....If you have a 512MB stick(teh real thing, pretty cheap @ newegg.com) you can download and view the fansub that's been out since frikin forever... I own a 1.50 PSP and I'm deffinately not giving it up for a dubbed movie. I can't live without my Lua & IRshell shiznit. If you have 2.00+ firmware and want to buy the UMD...good for you, hope you enjoy one sweet CG movie.

Honestly what a waste of money to buy any umd movies. Now dvd is fine, but retards only buy movies for psp.
wow, that first part of the post wasn't even funny.
Everyone thinks if you buy the DVD you can just rip it and convert it for PSP. Sorry to tell you, but I've tried about 12 rippers on it, none of which work. They don't like how its structured or something so if you want English on PSP, you have to get the UMD.
I ripped my monty python dvd to psp in less than 15 minutes and compressed 90 minutes of film into an ok quality 300 meg..
I dont get why sony keeps shooting itself in the foot with this whole forced updates on umd movies...
I would definitely have atleast 10 more umd games and 5 umd movies by now if they actually ran on my 1.0 psp... stupid sony.
Guess i will get ff7ac on dvd when it reaches the uk like next year :(

are they gonna come out with the the box set special edition? that one that was like 300$ in japan that has a special edition reprint of the game, dvd + extra disc, umd special edition, figurines, etc etc. iz that comming to us??????
Good to see I'm not alone in noticing the sucky dubbing. I know enough basic Japanese as well to know when they "Mickey Mouse" up stuff, as #26 so rightfully put it.
WHY can't they just stick to the script? Too many times people think that they have the right to change anything they want about the movie, including the people's names at times (thankfully not in this). Yet they would have a cow if someone changed some of their precious Hollywood movies around.
If the original writer wanted to say "It's cold out...let's get some hot sake." Don't say something stupid like "Let's get a cold beer" in the dub since we don't drink Sake here and not even realize how stupid and non-equivalent that phrase is. Sure, some americans won't get all the references, but that's why they need to read a book. Not sure how much (if any, to be fair) of things like this is in the AC dub, but I wouldn't put it past them.
#24 had a good point bringing up the poor quality of the actors. There's a difference between sounding laid back (as Yazoo does at times) and sounding DEAD like the english dub actor made him sound. Sounding arrogant like (Kadaj does at times) and sounding like a spoiled brat like the english actor sounded. And being the strong, silent type (Loz) and sounding like a dumb oaf in the english.
"Kaa-san wa doku da?" rolled off Loz's tongue in the original. Sounded like he was having a hernia when he shouted "WHERE'S MOTHER" in the dub.
I'm sorry, but I'm not sorry. There is NO excuse for it being that bad after making us wait for two years.

Its a good movie ive seen the English ver.last Tuesday,i bought it at BestBuy.Anyway just get the DVD and transcode it to your PSP. # 34 Try using DVD Dcrypter its great .you can have subtittle if you want or not..

Yeah, it's really easy to transcode videos once you get used to it. Here's a link to help you: http://forums.qj.net/showthread.php?t=18827
It has links to what you'll need: Decrypter, PocketDivx and PSPVideo9. I got confused with his directions since the programs didn't do exactly what he said.
He probably knows more of what he's talking about, but I for one found that I like doing it this way (which is mostly his way, but with my tweaks):
1) Download and install all the programs if you don't already have them. I suggest downloading both version 3.51 and 3.6 of PocketDivx (each has their perks)
2) Insert your DVD of choice into your drive.
3) Open Decrypter and set the mode to "IFO" mode.
4) In the window on the right side of Decrypter, select the steam you want (usually the longest one--first or second 99% of the time)
5) Right click on the stream and set file splitting to 'none'
6) Select the destination folder
7) Hit the big DVD > Hard drive button
If you want it converted into .avi format, follow the next few steps. If not, skip ahead to number 15.
9)Open PocketDivx
10) Select the PC icon (click ok if it says something about the dimensions)
11) Under step 1 select the VOB file that you ripped.
12) Under step 2 select the destination folder for the .avi file
13) Set all the sound and video quality settings to the max
14) Hit 'add to the list' if you have more than one you want to encode and repeat steps 11-14. If not, hit 'Encode Now'. When it's done it will let you know but it usually takes a while.
15) Open PSPVideo9 and under 'Setup > settings' choose your profile. For widescreen DVDs I like to use the setting 10th from the bottom. The one under the 1500 setting. This will usually result in a file size between 300-500 MB, depending on the length of the movie.
16) Save your settings and go to 'convert'
17) Hit the 'one-click transcode' button and select your VOB file. Hit ok and sit back and wait till it's done.
There you have it. It may seem like a lot at first, but after you do one or two it's a piece of cake. I honestly didn't know it was that many steps until I wrote it out. Trust me, it becomes second nature.
Just download it from limewire , they had it on limewire more than a month ago in english version , don't any of you know that movies get leaked months before they release and the persons who leak them always happen to be members of limewire.

I wasn't yelling just then, just wasn't sure if I could use bold by putting it in .
But yeah, I stated that you don't have to use Pocket Divx unless you want to make it an .avi. Pocket Divx doesn't really have a need unless you are working with .ogm or .mkv files. You know, files with subtitles. In which case, you can use it to hardcode subtitles onto the .avi.
So if you have any dual layer anime like I do, you can do it like that. I found that's the best use for it. And for turning files into .avi if you want to make things like AMVs out of them, which I do all the time.

Cool movie, lots of action that's for sure. The turks make it pretty comical too...especially Reno...lol.
One thing you have to keep in mind is that this particular movie was done in japanese first, THEN they had to make their voices match almost perfectly( if you bought the special edition DVD set you'd know this as the actors mention how hard it was to do so :P). Also, the emotions and emphasis they had to put into eveything they said made the voices soun d different then they would had they been speaking in japanese. So, basically, if you can't do better, then stfu
