It was a long-running rumor but it's time to stamp out a bit red CONFIRMED mark on it. Square Enix has just unveiled that Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War will have multiplayer functions as supported by the PSP's wireless feature. Both Versus and Co-op modes will now be available in the game.
Another new feature that's exclusive to the port. While you can emulate the game onto your PSP, this game release looks like it's actually worth getting. Your emulated version can only go so far, but for The Lion War, you get new stuff. Let's round up all the features we now know are going to be exclusive in the release:
- cel-shaded cutscenes
- new job classes Onion Knight and Dark Knight from FFIII
- new character Balthier from FFXII (PS2)
- Versus and Co-op mode

In would be cool if the game had ad hoc and infrastructure

The original one's plot was mired by some confusing wordiness and some spell effects were so embarrassingly translated.
'Fire bracelet' was actually ice breath, and 'Ice bracelet' was actually 'Fire breath'.
How they got bracelet = breath is beyond me.

Yes, it's a port, but everyone says it like it's a bad thing. This is a very good port from what's on paper.
Also to be added to the bulleted list, don't forget that this game is in true widescreen without stretching.

THE AUTHENTIC GAME SHOULD BE USED FOR MULTIPLAYER PURPOSES, BECAUSE, AS FAR AS I KNOW, CUSTOM FIRMWARE/DEVHOOK DOESN'T ALLOW WIFI SUPPORT FOR EMULATED GAMES.

As long as load times are worth it, I don't mind. I usually rip my games anyway so I can have two "UMD" games at once (one's faster than the other, but convenience is a nice luxury).
This game will look better (hopefully 1:1 resolution for less blurriness), real widescreen, ad-hoc, new classes...
Sure, if you're not a big fan of FFT you wouldn't care. But this game means a lot to me -- not "just another game" -- so I have withheld from converting my PS1 FFT (oh, I want to) so that I can play it fresh.
