Final Fantasy Tactics for the PSPJapanese manga magazine "Shonen Jump" has just announced that Square Enix's Final Fantasy Tactics will be making its way to the Sony PSP.

Titled Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War, the game will apparently be a port of the original FFT (the one with Ramza and the ever-unbalancing Thunder God Cidoflas Orlandu!) with a couple of new jobs added in, including the Onion Knight job class from Final Fantasy III. The game will also feature all-new cel-shaded FMVs and cutscenes.

Word has also been going around that FFT: The Lion War will be the second a set of games from Square Enix called Ivalice Alliance, with Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings being the first. Final Fantasy Tactics A2: The Sealed Grimoire is supposed to be the third game in the series, but details on this title are still scarce. We're guessing this one's headed for the DS and GBA, though, because of the "A" (most likely stands for Advance).

Keep checking back here on QJ for more info. Kudos to Strangler for the heads-up.

AWESOME!!

Finally hopefully a good/great RPG for PSP from Square-Enix... This should be good!
by - 2006-12-13 11:03:47
Sweet

Tactics is my favorite PS1 game of all time, the GBA one was too kiddie but the original had a great story line. This is awesome!

the death of FF

So... the FF series has officially been killed, yes? a *****ing port of tactics, dont bother giving us a new game, give us a game theyve already ported. Twice. Im calling shenanigans on that. And whats up with the 12 series? When the ***** did they ever mention adding 2 games to 12? Didnt they try and make X in to something? X-2 was *****ing horrible.

.

Well if you go into the dsupdates portion of this site you might have seen that, btw must've missed that first time they ported this, sure looks like the first time since the old PS1 to me.

YES!

I cannot believe it, I am obsessed with the final fantasy tactic games, they are VERY fun and long to play. I am so glad they are continuing the series! I cannot wait for them to come out, any release dates for any of them? Yeah I am sure Final Fantasy Tactics: A2 stands for Final Fantasy Tactics: Advance 2 since there is already an advance one for the gba so it makes sense. My question is, is the one for DS a turn-based tactical rpg like the others or no?
by Frode222 - 2006-12-13 12:45:47
it will never end

The FF series will never end. I am happy to receive any FF game on PSP, not one via emulator. I am sure it will be a good game, regardless of the fact is has been ported. The fact that Square has finally caved into to sequels isn't a surprise, they have just held out longer than other companies...

...

What is up with SE and merely porting old PS1 games to the PSP? I loved VP:L, but new games would be nice too (not just FF7:CC).
by - 2006-12-13 13:57:04
Sweet!

I'm really looking forward to this. I hope we don't have to wait too long for this.
by - 2006-12-13 14:14:50
Woooohooo

i was waiting for psxemu but not anymore. ;D

Don't get me wrong...

as I'm a huge final fantasy fan...but are game makers becoming lazy now? Its great that FFT will be on the PSP, but with just some new classes and cut scenes? If you are going to re-release a game, create more battle, a whole new side story, something more than this... I've been waiting for a new FFT for a while, not a remake. :( Won't we be able to buy this from the PS1 store? Oh well, I guess they can do what they want, but I really wish they'd create a New tactics (that wasn't for advance). I'm excited for FFVII:CC though...it better be worth the wait :p

I never played FFT, but this should be something worthwhile. Sequels are something that is very unorthodox when you're speaking about SquareEnix and Final Fantasy. But I suppose if they believe that they didn't achieve everything they wanted in each individual FF, they should have the right to release newer versions with the feeling and touch they want their audiences to perceive. I'm also glad that SquareEnix has finally got their PSP line-ups coming. BYAHHHHH!

re

the sony requirement for a port may be the only reason its an updated port
by - 2006-12-13 15:20:42
character placement

i just hope they change the fact you had to place your characters blindly. personally i think the ps1 version had a better story, but the gba edition was better to play
by - 2006-12-13 15:48:13
Huzzah!

Meh. FFTA was way too kiddly, and way too easy. none of the challenge from the original. Personally the only reason i've wanted a PS1 emulator was for this game. Getting to have it ported directly to PSP though, and on a UMD instead of carrying it on a memory stick is too cool. =D

Whaaaaat? The GBA version sucked in everything except graphics.
by - 2006-12-13 16:05:13
Facts

whoever said they have ported FFT twice now is not correct. FFT Advance was in no way a port of the original, it was a seperate game. One that I did not like nearly as much as the original. The original holds it's place as one of my top two games of all time. Facts, son, learn them.
by - 2006-12-13 16:14:11
..

Tactics was one the greatest games ever of PSX. But years & years later we are comin up with a part 2 on PSP after for so so very long? FAWK YEAH! this game will be the shiet!
by - 2006-12-13 16:44:55
THANK YOU GOD!

FFT was my favorite of all the Final Fantasys (Excluding FFVII). FFTA was a let down, so lets hope this and FFTA2 won't be disappointing.
by - 2006-12-13 16:46:32
good...

but will they release it in america? And god forbid they make FFT - TWO. Not the damn Advance game; I was so bummed with that release. In my circle of friends that played FFT, Orlandu was always called UDM... Unstoppable Death Machine, ah yeah.
by - 2006-12-13 17:43:02
..

I just hope they make it multiplayer. Since the first game, me and my brother always wanted to fight each other's units and see which one was better.
by - 2006-12-13 18:14:39
FFT not FFTA

ok first of all FFTA is not a port of the FFT game for ps1 they are two completely different games, second it's impossible for FFXII and FFT to have any connection as they are all set in different worlds. FFTA and FFXII however is sett in the same world Ivalice
by - 2006-12-13 18:27:23
Nice

I just about wet myself when I read this headline. As long as they steer clear of stories where the main plot line is a girl's hair color and snow ball fights, it should be awesome.
by - 2006-12-13 18:49:22
=)

yeeeeeessss!
by - 2006-12-13 19:30:45
well...

ivalice in ffxii is the same one just set in a different time period and the one in FFTA is an imaginary world called ivalice
by - 2006-12-13 20:42:09
hmmm....

Wasn't FFT set in a Europe-like Continent? I don't remember it being called Ivalice though....
by - 2006-12-13 21:05:14
omfg!!!

yes i finally love the psp again!! i cant wait for this release. i loved the final fanstasy tactics for gba!!
by - 2006-12-13 22:16:42
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

after trying several times to emulate FFTactics on my PSP, my dream has been realized, and Square is gonna ADD stuff too!!! We successfully emulated GBA Tactics Advance which was a total let-down, because the ps1 tactics set the standard, the GBA title only (crappily) mimicked the original. All along, THIS is what I really wanted!!! Finally that DOOM GAZE lingering above with the giant SONY logo on it can float away... "ERAUQS SI DLROW EHT" --Final Fantasy VI, Deryl's Tomb
by - 2006-12-13 22:28:01
ff fan

i just recently played through fft on ps1, and that one is set in Ivalice too
by - 2006-12-13 22:39:34
whhhhhhy

WHYYYYYY, why a damn port? Why port a freaking PS1 game if you are going to release a PS1 emulator anyway??? why not a sequel instead??

ORGASMIC!!!

THis is the ORRIGINAL WITH A COUPLE OF NEW JOBS!!!! Not the Crappy GBA version!!! I'm creaming my knickers!! NeoN HaZe.
by WarLord - 2006-12-14 04:30:35
Yeah, I see your point

Doesn't make much sense to make ps1 ports when there's already an emulator out. But at least they're adding stuff to this one. I'll definitely pick this one up. I loved the original version.
by - 2006-12-14 06:08:31
ff7

y cant they just make the the ff7 remake dont they realize they could make looooaaadddssss of money with that
by Darkatomz - 2006-12-14 10:17:05
!!

^omfg stop complaining about a remake. even if they DID (which they wont for at LEAST another 3 years probably...), they would make it on the ps3. SWEET!!! ive actually never played tactics, but i can always pick that up.
by - 2006-12-14 11:12:58
stabbin hookerZ

GBA version has better graphics?! Are you listening to yourself? No it didn't! You're comparing GBA to ps1! PS1 FFT was rotatable and the sprites were clear as day. Due to the limited rendering in GBA, many of the sprites blended into the background and were hazy.
by - 2006-12-14 13:46:38
lets just hope....

they dont dilute it into some run of the mill port like the numerous other games for psp , otherwise this could be really successful
by - 2006-12-14 13:53:53
FFT > FFTA + True

yeah the gba version was easy and fun to play BUTthats only because it modified the original FFT battle system (remember having to WAIT to cast magic?) so you didnt have to put as much thought into playing
by - 2006-12-14 15:08:24
YES!

THANK YOU SQUARE! THIS WAS A GAME I ALWAYS WANTED TO HEAD TO PSP. (caps)
by - 2006-12-14 23:08:11
re

I kinda hope the other one is for the gba and not for the psp or ds so I can download it and it wont be a large file and play it on the psp gba emulator. The iso would be too large of a file and the ds one would be unbaccesable without a ds.
by - 2006-12-15 01:03:45
re

btw, anyone else find it weird that square enix supports cell phones over the psp?
