Final Fantasy I, 20 years before - Image 1It looks like Final Fantasy fans would be celebrating earlier as Square Enix has just announced the release date of the remake.

Square Enix is starting its celebration of 20 years of Final Fantasy with a remake of Final Fantasy I and 2 for the PSP, originally seen on Famicom/NES. They were last seen as ports for the PSOne and the GBA - but don't hold your breath just yet, the dates are for the Japan release. The US release is yet to be announced.

For the first part of the anniversary, Final Fantasy I's port is set for release in April 19 this year and will retail at 3,800 yen (that's around US$ 32). Final Fantasy II will hit the shelves late May.

We've yet to see what sort of makeover was done to the ports but let us hope they make it as good as we're hoping for. And let's hope we see it soon.

That's a very reasonable price for a PSP game. A port it may be, but they're pricing them to sell!

April can't come fast enough!

# GBA FF remakes are great on PSPGuest 2007-02-05 21:46
I just finished FF1 from the GBA release Dawn of Souls. It's a very well done conversion, though I know it's already been done on Wonderswan and PS1. There's really no point in waiting for these releases as you can play all 3 (GBA, WS, PS1) on PSP with near perfect emulation.

And I thought they'll make a Real Remake of the Game... Like FF7 on PS3... I hope they're not only just ports...

yay.. more ports, more rehashes of the games we already have 4 different copies of on 4 different systems.. why not release a NEW game with fresh ideas instead of of taking a quick buck route with a game we already have? jerks!

they're probably just polished up ports like adding better textures and updting the graphics overall.

the only problem I have with this is that they are on 2 separate UMDs....I mean, even the gba version has the 2 in one cart, and it was like 16 MB if I recall.....so yeah, they can fill both of those with tons of cutscenes and whatever they may like in a single UMD...but nooo they are selling them separatly...

The screens of the games show that the graphics have been nicely retouched. However it would've been so much better if they were bundled together.

We have to pay over $30 for EACH game? That's one hell of a stickup job. Gotta love these overpriced re-re-re-releases.

Alright!!! While I am waiting, why don't I play Final Fantasy I and II on Nester? Then if they aren't out when I am done, I can pass the time by playing Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls on gpSP. If i am still waiting, then I can move on to the eSwan versions...and if I have time, I will play Final Fantasy Origins!

Awesome!!!!!

My god. This is the reason why Square blows. Better graphics, better textures, new cutscenes! AMAZING HUH!?!

Who f**king cares? Everyone's played FF 1 and 2 ages ago, and both games SUCKED. The only one that deserves a port or remake to anything is FFVI because honestly, it was the best out of the series. FFVII would be good if the fanboys all over the internet didn't destroy it for me by idiotically praising it left and right.

Go to hell, Square. Enix, you guys are cool though!

Never played any version before, maybe I'll get them, so I hope these will be the best versions! Just to make Square happy and they bring more FF to the PSP!

Also I would love to play Final Fantasy 1 and 2 with better graphics (in English). You guys say that these have been released on so many systems, but only in Japan and most of us do not read Japanese characters. I applaud Square for bringing back the old games to this side of the ocean
