There's a short but interesting report coming in regarding Square Enix's Final Fantasy I 20th Anniversary Edition game for the PSP, which makes its debut in Japan today. According to a first-impressions post at the Neo-Geo forums, the game contains options for English text, as seen in the screenshots above.

The report further states that the game prompts users at the start to choose either Japanese or English text for their gameplay, with the game allowing players to change their language preference at any point during play via the configuration menu. As the screenshot also indicates, character names won't change. Other details noted by hanafudaX (the thread starter), include the game's easy-to-read text on the PSP screen, and enhanced game sounds

We presume this will be most welcome news for the North American FF fans who can't wait for their game version's (presumed) June 26 release date. In other related news, Play-Asia is currently selling Japan's copy of FFI on their site for US$ 34.00. That's the news bit for the moment - let's just hope Final Fantasy II gets a similar option come its June 7 release in Japan.

It does have choice of English text and you can change the name of the party members. I just got it and I'm about 30 minutes into it.

FF Fools!

Huzzah!

YES - the dialogue is in English! Selecting the English option is trivial, too - it prompts you when you first begin. This game is very import-friendly, it seems.

Actually, the three options are Hiragana (Japanese text) Kanji (Japanese with Chinese characters where they can insert them) and English.
