FFVII Pirate Gets Busted

Someone uploaded a pirated version of the upcoming Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children movie to Google Video a while back. Square Enix found out about it and requested Google to remove it. Once removed, Square Enix started to track this person down. I'm guessing this is the English version because the Japanese version has been all over the place for quite some time now.

In a press release issued today, Square Enix reports that they have found the person responsible. On April 17th, the accused admitted that he had uploaded the video and agreed to pay an undisclosed amount to settle. Obviously, Square Enix is taking piracy very seriously this time around. Here's what Square EnixÂ’s General Manager of Legal Affairs, Yasuhiko Hasegawa, says:

“In connection with the release of the movie, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, we are actively pursuing those who commit intellectual property infringement against our company. Any illegal activities, including the illegal uploading of Square Enix content to Internet sites and the unauthorized copying of Square Enix games, music, movies, images, and other intellectual property, will be prosecuted. While Square Enix appreciates the enthusiasm of its fans, and values its relationship with them, it is also obligated to protect its intellectual property rights, or risk weakening or losing the very rights that enable the company to continue to provide its fans with an exciting entertainment experience.”

The movie will see a DVD and UMD release on April 25th, 2006 in both North America and the United Kingdom.

b: im not buying the dvd, because the yanky release is rubbish... will look into buying it if it ever has a high def release though, because the film was visually awesome.

c: what the ***** does this have to do with psp... i can see on the title bar "24/7 coverage of the latest psp news"... this is just stupid, its not a media info site, its a psp one (or atleast its apparently ment to be, but im beginning to doubt it...)

asdf

The real newsworthy articles have been going slow the last couple of months. Sometimes the candle burns out while all the fragile little children are sitting huddled up in the corner praying that they won't be eaten by their goldfish called Jeff.

Lack of intelligence

Yes, as most of the comments here are... it is easy to track someone, especially an uploader to Google Video (stupid sh*t that actually uploaded illegal stuff to Google Video, as if that is a smart move...). All they have to do is find your IP address that submitted the video, which is usually tracted on submission for the reason of copyright infrigment. So, with the IP address (your ID on the internet) they can find yoiur ISP and then see who is assigned that IP number. Go search google, you can find where people live with just their IP.

So, yeah, I would doubt most of the people here could get caught, seeing as their intelligence is just too great. Go ahead and flame me, the insults are too weak to do anything.

Pirate?

Get real, that guy isn't a pirate...it would be better to list hte article as "dumbass arrested for sharing movie publicly"... Internet PIRATES are like the ones who had FFVII AC out 2 days before it was released in Japan...

When I read the title of this I was like "wow they accomplished something", then I read the artice and I was like "oh...."....

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-20 06:38
Anyone know were to get it.

I'm sure someone downloaded it. Does anyone know were to get it now?

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-20 06:46

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-20 07:25

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-20 08:17

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-20 08:18
me

pre-ordered the flick on dvd and umd this past weekend ,cant wait for this next tuesday. flick looks sick.

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-20 09:18
Yea, i dont think this is true

Final Fantasy Advent Children is a Japanese Movie.

Japans copy right laws are different.

You could take it and distribute it as long as you are not making any money off it.

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-20 09:28
Good for him

That's what he gets for messing with stuff he didn't create. Loser.

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-20 09:28
lol

i bet this is on torrents the day after release - i hope so anyway ;)

the reason this is classed as psp news is not only because it gives you the umd release date but because...

in japan when it was originally released it was a big thing that it would come out on the psp

i believe they did a bundle - damn think about it its square and sony

its news goddamnit!

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-20 10:42
seriously

Does anybody still care about this movie? It's been out forever.

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-20 11:04
Ohh....you are QUITE wrong buddy

Quote "Final Fantasy Advent Children is a Japanese Movie.

HAHAHA, you are SOOO wrong. Do you assume because fansubs are all over the net that it is different? These titles are held under INTERNATIONAL copyright laws. I assume you haven't heard of the cease and decist orders that got sent to several fansub groups in early 2005. Most japanese companies don't have the MONEY to pursue and track these people down, so they don't do anything about fansubs (pluse usually it doesn't affect the JAPANESE companies profit being they sell the distribution rights to a American company).

So my point is, ALL FANSUB GROUPS ARE BREAKING THE LAW! Any country covered under the international copyright acts and such have FULL copyright in all countries under that law, so yes, Japanese laws are VERY SIMILAR to US copyright laws.

Too funny...

Well, Id say this guy got an "exciting entertainment experience" alright ;-)....LMAO But, what about the person he got the movie from, did they get him/her I wonder?

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-20 12:38
Welp...

Maybe they could make more "exciting entertainment' experiences if they would release they're s**t globally instead of exclusively to themselves and then letting everybody else follow in their wake :-P.
