Online is important. That's the point Take-Two CEO Ben Feder hammered home during the company's Q3 2009 investors call. While he believes that the retail channel is still a long way from being toppled by digital releases, Feder emphasized that their games also need to be supported online.

So what does this mean? In a nutshell, expect all future Take-Two games to feature DLC. Here's what he said:

ItÂ’s clear that retail is the channel for the foreseeable future. Nonetheless, there is a download component to a lot of our games, and thereÂ’ll continue to be a download component.

The games live online and they live at retail: they live at both. Whether thatÂ’s download first, retail second, or retail first download second, or some combination of the two, thatÂ’s an area that weÂ’re going to experiment with because weÂ’re innovating in that area.

And itÂ’s likely to change from title to title, but everything is going to have a download component, needs to have a download component. ItÂ’s one of the key lessons [of The Lost and Damned]. WeÂ’ll see how GTA in the retail SKU performs; weÂ’re actually pretty optimistic about it.

» awesome !

I am not buying any take two games.....go f*ck yourself.

I REALLY hate DLC, especially when a company decides there will be DLC for all their games, long before they are in development.

Basically you can now expect to pay 5-$30 more for every TT game if you want to full experience.

It wouldn't be so bad if the base game was cheaper, but they are not. They are basically developing a game and at some point saying, we are going to take "this, this aaand this" off the disc and then charge you extra for it later......BS

eg. GTA 4, you do not need to buy Lost and Damned to get the full experience, these are just side stories not neccessary to enjoy GTA4, GTA4 was a complete game in itself, the developers are working hard to release to episodes of content. are you saying anyone who brought GTA4 should get these 2 add ons for free after over a year of development. If R* had these episode packs ready right after the GTA4 release then yeah I would also be complaining. Assuming they put the extra work in for their games like they done for GTA4 then DLC is fine.

People complain about developers not supporting their titles, now that they decide to support their titles why are people complaining? Nobody is ever pleased. I will proudly support R* by buying The Ballad of Gay Tony just like when I brought The Lost and Damned. I'd say out of most publishers that Take Two are one of the only companies that are staying loyal to their fans, yet their company is down millions of dollar this fiscal quarter.

so basically he's saying:

" From now on we only bring out "demos" out for the full price of a complete game! If you want the full game, you have to pay again for the DLC! Isn't that great? "

» Exactly

Where is the DLC for the PS3 version of your games? I don't see any yet so why even go on to say you will support with DLC? I'm not buying two of the same game just to get the DLC. I prefer buying for the PS3 due to free online service. Why should I be punished for doing so?

» Pc DLC

My problem isn't that every game will have DLC it's that i get the same stuff free on my Pc games.

» That's different

When a game is finished, and then afterwards the devs add more content, it'd cool and I'm sort of ok paying for it (they're mostly overpriced). It's when, like Shatterdome said, the devs are planning the dlc from the get-go, making stuff that could have been included in the disc and then charging extra for it.... that's when it seems kind of shady. I mean, why should Ps3 owners pay extra to have Yoda on their Soul Calibur 4 WHEN HE'S ALREADY ON THE DISC?! It's just a sheisty way of squeezing more money out of gamers. Seems that a lot of dlc is like that, especially the stuff that's out the same day the game comes out.

On a side-note, I have to applaud Batman: Arkham Asylum on this point. The "play as the Joker" dlc was available for free from the start. That's how it should be. Again, I have no problem with devs going back after the game is finished, adding new levels or whatever and then charging a reasonable fee, but it just seems unethical charging for stuff that could have been included on the disc.
