There's been a hefty amount of rumors being passed around regarding remake projects for Square Enix. One of the most popular is that of Final Fantasy VII getting the next-gen treatment on the Sony PlayStation 3. The flames of that buzz were fanned even more with a technical demo at E3 and fans have been talking about it since then.Another white lie that captured our collective imaginations was that of Square Enix itself revamping its business model from being a company that releases mostly original titles to one that is completely devoted to remakes. This story turned out to be absolute bull after website Wired traced the source and blew the cover off a chain of inaccurate reports.
Just when you thought the remake blues were waning down, the Square Enix's Party asked its loyal patrons to air their thoughts as to which of the Final Fantasy games they want to see remade. When the smoke cleared, the inevitable came to pass: Final Fantasy VII was a runaway favorite.
Roughly a decade since it debuted for the first PlayStation, the game that starred Cloud Strife and his friends still has that special spot in the hearts of RPG fans everywhere. Final Fantasy VII was more than just a great game. It It became a defining moment for the genre by setting the bar for every RPG that came after it. Never have storytelling, technological superiority and play mechanics come together the way it did for Final Fantasy VII.
Other players, however, feel that things should stay as they are and that it would be sacrilege to do the same thing all over again. What do you think? Do we need more remakes?

Yeah, if Square Enix had any strategy, a FFVII remake would be their best move. I can tell you that anyone knowing RPG's at all know the importance of FFVII. It set the bar for plot twists in a game, and pretty much made the most bad-ass boss, Sephiroth, into a cult favorite amongst gamers. With Crisis Core comming to explain Zach, all of the cameos in Kingdom Hearts, and Advent Children, there is nothing smarter then dropping a clean, cut and polished version of the best RPG known to gamers.
To tell the truth (guys, stop saying "first!" - its lame) I think Squeenix should leave FFVII as it is... Its one of the (if not the) best games the world has ever seen and still brings tears every time i play it (why did Aeris have to die? ^^).
Square should not risk lowring the effect of this genial game!
This was obviously, as stated, one of the most amazing games ever created. It would be -AMAZING- to see this remade on PS3.
Whenever I get the withdrawal feeling, I go and break out FF7 and replay it. Therefore, this new game would have to be that good. I don't want to forget the original but if they make this IDENTICAL to the original(minor dialogue differences and touch-ups, but the scenes and everything the same it would be amazing.

If sony was smart, they would hold a gun to their head and say MAKE IT, DAMNIT< MAKE IT!! And make sure its only for the PS3.
But ofcourse it should be remade only if they use the same exact storyline, and voiceovers and what not. And add mini games and other appealing content... you know...
The only way they should remake it is by upping the graphics, they shouldn't change ANYTHING else about the game, my fear is that if they do make a remake they will change the play style to the "newer" RPG type games, and take out the way the setup of the game was such as materia being used on anyone and such. So if they do remake it better just be to make up-to-date graphics in the game.
Why someone need a FF VII remake? The game is great! I don't think that FF VII needs a remake. Final Fantasy VI (III) needs. Chrono Trigger needs. Final Fantasy VII? Not really...

Don't remake it yet. Wait another generation or two and then give it a remake to end all remakes. The only thing that could be gained by remaking it on a PS3 is improved graphics... and is that all we REALLY want in an FF7 remake?

Not one for FF VII (never finished it - got bored because I didn't like it that much) and really ain't looking forward to a remake.
What I'd like to see is a next gen remake of FF I. And not with some stupid subtitle like "Final Fantasy Origins." No more of this "updated sprites" garbage: give it next gen graphics, mini games and modern gameplay with the same (possibly expanded) story. That would be one worth playing.
there were no voiceovers in ff7. and if sony were smart they would do it for psp so they could finally sell some, and make it run with a minimum of their "new and unhackable" firmware. that might actually help sway me to keep mine, but i'm waiting to hear something about crisis core other than abunch of screen shots before i sell it.
they should leave it alone, you dont mess with the classics. if anything just re-release it for ps2, 3 or if sony wanted to sell psp port it to psp. that way all of you people who didn't get it back in the day can get it without paying like 100 bucks. i wouldn't buy a remake, almost everyone i know says they wouldn't. its like blasphamy, it's a worse idea than rob zombie remaking halloween. it will never be as good as the original so just keep up with the spin-offs and just pop your lil black disc in your playstation and geek out.

they could use ff7 advent chuldren voice overs and add them into cut scens plus if it was on the psp it would make the umd split into 2 disc because of improved graphics and voice overs and all the extra stuf

I put over 150 hours into a single slot. 150 hours that could have been better spent doing like, interesting things... on top of it all, i had multiple slots.

Demonsweat, Why wait a gen or 2, thats like 5-10 years at least from now. I could be dead by then. They should make an upgrade, Voice overs, more minigames, and maybe go deeper into the storyline (but dont CHANGE the story). Id like it for the PS2, but it could very well sell more PS3's. If it was for the PS3 only, I would actually consider buying one. We should all contact Sony, via e-mail, and let them know. I will.
Everyone wants a remake now, but if it ends up destroying the game that we all know and love, maybe its best to leave it. I watched an episode of Transformers:Be ast Wars the other day, and it crushed by childhood images of it...errr and i dont want that to happen to ffvii is what i think im trying to say. +p

That my friend is what we need indeed... i have a feeling a lot of old FFans are along those line and would get ps3 in a snap if that game was and made exclusive to ps3 and ps3 ONLY!
A revolutionary game maybe, but FFVII is not that great. Today we see tons of game that have expanded from what FFVII started and most of them get rated low. If anything they should not even bother making remakes anymore and concentrate more and making new games, even spin-offs would be nice, but no more for FVII, they milked it enough.
There, I sent my e-mail to Sony suggesting just about everything we talked about. I really hope some of you do too. If you want a remake badly enough, like me, youll do it. It only takes a minute.
and for starters, add voice over too everthing that was text, up the graphics, have camera closer (like god or war camera), change the battle system to FFXIII so we can actualy fight like in the FFVII movie, make going around the world like elder scrolls and ( in my opinon) add extra downloads of levels and powers, mabe even score based missions

It's a game that made games of its genre (I don't like calling games RPGs since they have strayed waaaay too far from that definition a long time ago) that was great for it's time but now looking back on it, it's just mediocre.
If you change the gameplay its not FF7. It would be more like FF7 1/2, sorry but I dont want new gameplay.
no just kidding. I haven't even beaten it, the bull crap with the random attacks was too tedious to bother with. But I think you're being too harsh. Being revolutionary makes a lot of what we consider great, well... great. Looking back a lot of great games like gta III, would look less impressive next to the newer versions but so what? still a classic.
I hope it's like liberty city stories or an expansion pack type of thing that adds on to the original game's story.

If they remake it and change it as we all know they will havent seen anyother ff remakes left alone so be it you do not have to play the remake if you are a die hard and dont wish to see it changed play psx ver ...dont get me wrong rather see an enhancement to the graphics only but can live with a few changes

FF VIII was a better game than FFVII and should get a remake before FFVII does as wll as a sequel or two.
Remake all the games before doing a bunch of the same games. I'm looking at 1 and 2. They've been redone for the PS1, then the GBA, and now the PSP. All with more and more bonus stuff. But why not do the others more? We finally got FF3. FF4 is coming for DS after 4 5 and 6 were done for GBA. Time to tackle 7 8 and 9. 7 first, then 9, then 8 if they have time... but if they do 8, they will fix the magic system (PLEASE.)

Unless they have something genuinely unique to add to the game play, they should just leave it alone. Square-Enix have released a lot of half-assed remakes in the past, and I could see this one following the trend. Fortunately, they seem to want to wait until the time is right, which is good.

Ok, FFVII was the best of the best. I say WAS. It is STILL the best, but instead of a remake, let's do somthing worthwhile. Something like what happened in 1997. Let's create something new for an RPG that'd never been done before. Get creative. That was the true effort poured into FFVII to make it the best. It wasn't about money, (ok maybe a little) but it was about setting the bar so high that after a decade couldn't be broken or exceeded.
Look at Castlevania SOTN. Best Castlevania of all time. In 1997 alot of good came out in everyone during the development of video games. We need that creativity that we had then. That sheer insight as to wheather or not the game would make it or just be another flop. We need a change.
The past is the past. They looked to the future of gaming. Without FFVII/Castlevania SOTN/Chrono Trigger, we'd be stuck in the fantasy world of Wal-Mart having #1 products and thinking the term "Extended warranty" is the best we could ever hope for *shudders*

FF8 remake would be awesome, I don't know why I ever see anyone suggesting that. Though, I probably wouldn't buy the same game with better graphics; the reason I don't bring FF 8 out and play it anymore is because I spent over a hundred hours and finished everything. I like the story, but if I wanted to play the first one, I'd play it again.

I think they like remaking the 2D ones because they were small, simple, and actually kinda bad games. They're easy the remake, and no one's gonna complain if they screw them up. I think the fear of screwing up is why they haven't remade FF7/8 or chrono trigger, at least yet.

how many of you people saying to remake it have even played the game?? graphics don't make a game good, and with half what you guys are saying would make it crap!! you don't want random battles? run away, or be a man and fight for exp points. voice overs would suck, if they make it which they shouldn't they just need to polish the graphics a lil bit. no voice over, no removing stuff, no adding stuff, and definatly no changing speach flaws. leave classics alone or this will be a video game version of the omen, black christmas, or anyonther horrible movie remake. you wouldn't go back in time and give jesus a bunch of bling and turn him into a fictional celebrity, and you don't remake ff7

If they make a remake, and it sucks, its sony's fault, and nobody will buy it, let alone a PS3. But I have play all final fantasy's except XI, and so far they havent screwed up. Oh wait, X-2 was terrible. And 1 more thing, I dont want to keep looking for different ps1 emu's or but a 10 yr old psone just to play one game.
imo if squeenix wants me to give up $59.99 for an "updated" version of an old game, i gonna want to have extra comment, such as extending the game out until at least the end of AC, i mean it would be sick to end the game fighting against sepiroth again (when that one guy turns into him during Advent children)... then i would give more money for that game

I laugh whenever I see the graphics on this game. I think it should be made for PSP though. Look at Crisis Core, it looks awesome.
Dialog, camera angles and battle system should stay the same, just the graphics need to be updated. As for the cartoony feel the game had, I guess that would have to go with the graphics update.
sorry to smack the truth in your faces FFVII fanboys but FF8 is the unparalled genius that 7 could never get close to (ive never played 1-6 so im not gonna say anything about them). 9 was crap from the story to the game play, and while 10 was great,it was too cliched to be the best (Sin is your father...) XI had no story, and XII was good, but no character depth. FFVII is only called "the best RPG known to gamers" cause it was the first 3D one. Check any rating site or magazine before the PS2 came out and you'll see that 8 beat 7 in almost everything (except music, which was a bit lacking other than Eyes on Me). My post may seem anti-FF7, but it was a good game, just not as great as 8 and 10. It had a sub-par plot, horrible character development (Disc 1, cloud+bad ass, Disc 2, Cloud+valiant hero, WTF?), and Sephroth (...). It's ignorance like this that makes me consider not buying Dissidia, cause /I CAN'T POSSIBLY IMAGINE WHO THE STRONGEST CHARACTERS WILL BE/end sarcasm

If you can play that game through and tell me it's bad in any way, then I don't know what you're on, but you need to get off it, or you need to get on something your not.

I got into ff9 easier than i did 7, it was slow and boring half the time, still good, but, annoying.
i've been wanting this for some time...i think square-enix should put it for both 360 and ps3...but not change one thing...
-keep the storyline
-keep world map
-keep fighting system
-"keep voice actors"
-keep weapons towns and such
-enhance it all to 3d hi-def 1080p
-keep music exactly the same but make it orchestrated
if they did this...it would be such a money maker...people would go out and buy a 360 or ps3 square-enix would make SOOOO much money by liscensing it to microsoft and sony...sorta like wat Bill gates did with MS-DOS...liscense FFVII.2 remake for both those systems and then all the people who have a Wii or hate all 3 systems would go out and buy a 360 or ps3 just to play it...

people who hated RPGs played FFVII and began to like them...FFVII is still considered to be the greatest game of all time even compared to todays games such as GOW and Oblivion...
I myself have been saying this since i beat FFVII for the first time like 10 yrs ago and one i seen what they were able to do in FFX I was like...OMG if FFVII could be made to look like this it would be...Graphically beautiful...Amazing storyline...Awesome Game
there are a few things they could add...
-new materia
-more things in gold saucer
-new minigames...like in FFX's arena
-more in depth storyline...like who were biggs wedge and jesse or when sephiroth is in the center of the planet show how he got there...nothing too major tho or it wouldnt feel like FFVII

Man shut up, This remake is suppose to be a step up from the original, as long as they dont screw around with the story everything else is somewhat changeable. When you start living from the fruits of the past, it's because you've run out of creative power to impress your audience with other new concepts rather than graphics. And this is valid not only for video games.
How many 100% original new games does Square have in development?
And how many remakes and franchise-exploiting games?
When "the Final Fantasy" becomes "a final fantasy" the title itself losses it's meaning.

it would be nice to see a remake of ff7, but all these people are saying that they want a remake because they dont want to play the original just because of the damn graphics...fvckers.
if you are so low to not play a legendary game like ff7 or MGS1 just because of the graphics, then you shouldnt be able to play it at all.
Whatever happened to Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars? I would love to see a remake of that for the DS or Wii. I don't think I'm alone, either; I know plenty of people who love that game; in fact, I've even found a petition that was sent to Square Enix requesting it. I think they should bring back the only real Mario RPG!
just my 2 cents
first, the gaming industry like any industry, is based on money, if they think they can make a reasonable profit they will make it. and i personally dont see much wrong with that,l
second, the old consoles are phasing out so without remakes of some sort younger generations will have no access to these games, i didnt have access to ff 1&2 untill they remade it, and i bought the old ps1 for $350/- last year just to play the old games, but younger gamers would just buy a ps2 for less than $200 and never bother to look behind.

well my answer for the remake of final antasy VII would be a definite no i love the game but i think that they would cange way too much however grapics do not mean better gameplay just better game looks and after that disscrace to final fantasy VII dirdge of cerberuse came out i think that square enix ows us all big time with a remake for the ps3 i mean come on who wouldnt want it after that
Final Fantasy VI has a remake on the GBA and Chrono Trigger has a remake on the PS1.
