Sup, Japan? - Image 1Famitsu's weekly most wanted chart is here again, with most titles just sticking around and vying for the top. Somewhat a good news for Xbox 360 though: Halo 3 got in at the 20th spot. Other than that, only 2 other games are in for Microsoft - both RPGs.

More than half of the list are pretty much RPGs or Action or both, showing that Japan's taste is really different from the west. The phenomenal series' upcoming entry, Dragon Quest IX, is still strong on top with Final Fantasy XIII coming a close second. Top 5 pretty much doesn't change with SE and Capcom both having a couple of entries, while Konami's got its much awaited MGS4.

Despite losing badly in the console sales race against the Wii, the PS3's got the most anticipated titles. Xbox 360 and DS are on fair standing, while PSP and PS2 got a title each to further Sony's domination on the list. Will Sony make a comeback in Japan? Doesn't sound too farfetched of an idea.

1, Dragon Quest IX (DS, Square Enix)
2. Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Square Enix)
3. Biohazard 5 (PS3, Capcom)
4. Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3, Konami)
5. Monster Hunter 3 (PS3, Capcom)
6. Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (DS, Nintendo)
7. Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors (Wii, Square Enix)
8. Super Robot Taisen: Original Generations (PS2, Banpresto)
9. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii, Nintendo)
10. Lost Odyssey (Xbox 360, Microsoft)
11. Everybody's Golf 5 (PS3, Sony)
12. Animal Crossing (Wii, Nintendo)
13. Devil May Cry 4 (PS3, Capcom)
14. Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII (PSP, Square Enix)
15. It's a Wonderful World (DS, Square Enix)
16. Final Fantasy Versus XIII (PS3, Square Enix)
17. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii, Nintendo)
18. Gran Turismo 5 (PS3, Sony)
19. Trusty Bell: Chopin no Yume (Xbox 360, Bandai Namco)
20. Halo 3 (Xbox 360, Microsoft)

Cool, surprising considering how poorly FPSs normally do in Japan.

It's funny how they only mention PS3 as having Biohazard 5 (RE 5) when there will also be a 360 release. The same for devil man cry.

by phalanges - 2007-06-04 16:38
» It's interesting to see

how well the PS3 will see when the 8 PS3 games on that list are out. Same goes for the 360 and the three games on that list.

by TacticalChicken - 2007-06-04 16:39
» um......riiiiiight

Why do they even compare the PS3 against the WII? not even the same classes. that's like comparing the PSP against GameGear...

by .......... - 2007-06-04 17:15
» ..............

because it is like comparing the PSP to the DS

by Taker_129 - 2007-06-04 18:08
» to steve

because the PS3 versions of those games are the ones the japanese people want. That is why the 360 versions are not on the list.

» but

Actually Halo has a Hardcore following in Japan, it's not MILLIONS but it's a lot.

by Nero - 2007-06-04 19:03

Because they dont care about the 360 release.

Totally unexpected.

» Good

Maybe they're finally starting to warm up. I don't care what any of you haters say, Halo is a very good game, and it's not a top 30 American franchise after only two major releases for no reason. Halo has it all, story (once again, despite what the haters with short attention spans say), gameplay, and even music.

Although, one thing I could never possibly comprehend is why they want a PS2 game called Super Robot Taisen more than Lost Odyssey or Super Mario Galaxy

Ok mate you can keep your halo and I will keep my MGS anytime!!!.

How well the wii will see after legend of zelda, mario, and super smash bros are out of that list. Oh wait never mind, mario 200, legend of zelda 150, and smash bros 10. Please dont talk about that the wii does not have such a great lineup either.

All they care about is RPGs. They will soon learn RPGs don't show a consoles full potential. Shooters have all the graphics and lighting effects thrown in. RPGs are only good for gameplay, nothing else. You need a mixture.

i will take halo and mgs when it comes to the 360 because there will not be enough ps3 in the market to pay for the game .

by Taker_129 - 2007-06-05 04:13
» wrong!!!!!!!

I'm sorry but you are wrong. RPGs have some of the best graphics that can't be found in any other genre. take ff12 and how that game pushed the ps2 to its limits or how oblivion set a high bar on 360 and PS3

by Folding Junkie! - 2007-06-05 05:08
» Wrong!

It depends upon the actual game. RPG's can have some of the best graphics in any genre. It all depends on what the designers want to do.

» Nintendo?

Omg, Mario games were good on the snes, and the remakes of the snes games on the gba were good too & Mario 64 was awesome. But now, *****ing hell, way too many mario games, and they're all *****e. Mario golf? Mario Teniis? Mario Doctor? Whats next?

*MGS4 is what i cant wait for*

by ackeejag - 2007-06-05 07:49
» mario

nintendo can make hundreds of mario games because sticking their trade mark character in any generic role makes them original. i cant wait for mario shooter. but dont dispair, its not all the same. now you can shoot by pointing and clicking. kinda reminds me of a game i played when i was like 5. what was it called again? duck hunt? but there new games are different.

its funny that this list points out the game on the bottom of the list instead of the fact that the number 1 game is on the wii or that the ps3 has 4 of the 5 top games or that 2:5 of the games are ps3 titles. but hey thats just me i guess.

» No, it's a tie!

You guys are talking about great graphics in cutscenes, "teh not so" is talking about graphics during gameplay. You don't play those pre-rendered cutscenes.

Even though you don't play them they are still there. It would be like watching Shrek on your PS2 DVD player and saying the PS2 is rendering those graphics.

by Somedude - 2007-06-05 13:12
» what?

Have you even played FF12 there wre hardly and pre rendered cut scenes. Most of the scenes looked like when you were running around. The game was awesome. The only time you see cut scenes with really great CG was when something big happened. like the airship battles.

by Somedude - 2007-06-05 13:17
» RPGs

To Teh Not So you said that shooters show a consoles true potential, wrong. BLACK, it was an awesome game, but the story sucked, it was short as hell, and had no multiplayer. Those alone were reasons enough not to buy it. I like my games to look good, but if they can't hold my interest then why bother playing them? Playing a game like that is like taking a sleeping pill, either it will put you to sleep. Playing a game based on blowing ***** up isn't fun. I'd rather play something with interesting ***** happening.

by MGSROCKS1 - 2007-06-05 16:52
» RPG having best graphics?

God of war anyone? Metal Gear solid anyone? There are a lot of games that have better games then FF12 and not RPGs.

by Folding Junkie! - 2007-06-06 05:23
» Phil!

Have you ever seen Oblivion? Not all RPG's are top down 2D views. I am glad you guys don't make the damn games. Where is your creativity?
