While Microsoft is readying up a media barrage for North America to promote Bungie's Halo 3 game (Xbox 360), it looks like Japan's populace may not be quite as receptive. Famitsu's latest "Most Wanted" polls of the region indicate that the game is gone from the poll's top 20 list, being overrun by Samurai Warriors 2: Xtreme Legends for the PlayStation 2.

Games making another appearance in the list include White Knight Story and The Last Remnant (PS3, Xbox 360). And in case you're wondering, the lists' top five stalwarts are still there, solidly rooted to their current places - at least until more developments arise.
  1. White Knight Story artwork - Image 1Dragon Quest IX (NDS, Square Enix)
  2. Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Square Enix)
  3. Biohazard 5 (PS3, Capcom)
  4. Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3, Konami)
  5. Monster Hunter 3 (PS3, Capcom)
  6. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii, Nintendo)
  7. Lost Odyssey (Xbox 360, Microsoft)
  8. Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII (PSP, Square Enix)
  9. Devil May Cry 4 (PS3, Capcom)
  10. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii, Nintendo)
  11. The Last Remnant (PS3, Xbox 360; Square Enix)
  12. Animal Crossing (Wii, Nintendo)
  13. Final Fantasy Versus XIII (PS3, Square Enix)
  14. Final Fantasy IV (NDS, Square Enix)
  15. Ash (DS, Mistwalker)
  16. Samurai Warriors 2: Xtreme Legends (PS2, Koei)
  17. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles (Wii, Capcom)
  18. White Knight Story (PS3, Sony)
  19. Gran Turismo 5 (PS3, Sony)
  20. Professor Layton and Pandora's Box (NDS, Level 5)

aren't Biohazard 5 and DMC4 also for the 360? Still, looking at this list shows exactly why the 360 is doing so badly over in Japan...

but they want the PS3 version more...

That is exactly why this list is bull*****. RPG. RPG. Oh look, another RPG! Bioshock is going to be the biggest game of August, and it doesn't even make top 20?

Well that's Japan for you, no one there really gives a ***** about FPS games. They prefer a good solid story over blowing sh1t up.

FPS have stories. This list just shows how different japan and usa are, most of those games blow ass. (most, not all) i would only buy 7-8 of those games.

» so short sighted and one sided.

You can say the exact same thing about us just replace RPG with FPS. Bioshock doesn't look all that impressive, sci-fi RPG? Fact of the matter is, here is a lineup of big games coming out for the US with high anticipation: Halo 3, Killzone 2, Haze, Call of Duty 4, Medal of Honor Airborne, Unreal Tournament 3, Blacksite: Area 51, even some not so hotly anticipated titles like Timeshift, Turok, Crysis and even Metriod Prime Corruption falls prey to the herd. Seeing a pattern? Maybe the Japanese have understood something that most of the US haven't, it is more fun to play an RPG with engines built from the ground up (mostly) rather than play games built around an engine that has been tried, tested and imitated to hell(Unreal Engine). But hey that's just my speculation. Even a top selling game like Oblivion can't break away from their First person comfort zone. Many American developers, I feel sacrifice innovation for profits and that's a damn shame.

Games like Shadow of the Colossus, Ico, Okami and several other games that slip my mind get passed over due to obsession for FPS titles or shooters in general, but I feel FPS is mostly at fault here. I applaud the Japanese for wanting quality games.

I'm glad games like White Knight Story are coming out. It's not a sequel, and for the most part it's original. If you also notice, that list is like 95% sequel/spin-off.

Actually i'd really like to play most all of these games to some extent, I think ive had enough Animal Crossing for my lifetime.

Yea, she forgot my honey nut cheereo's. Really, ***** off seoulfood. RPG are just as repetitive as shooters, cmon FF1000 is coming out soon. All of these games are sequals, wow thats original.

» ....

yup.

360 fanboys wont be bragging about how many game they have later on.

PS3 Is catching on.

unlike 360..... 3 good games are coming out...

after that.. thatz it for the 360.

by doodad - 2007-08-14 15:04
» it doesn't matter if they are sequals

the diff b/w rpg's anf fps's is that rpg's have a larger variety while fps's just have either vehicles or slight alterations. I'm not saying fps's are bad, but there is WAY TOO MANY OF THEM!!!! After a while it feels like the same old thing with updated graphics and new weapons.

Also, rpg stories totally destroy fps's stories (ex: any FF vs. halo). The Japanese have become skilled story spinners and that's why i like their games so much...

by well - 2007-08-14 15:06
» thtat can be said about any game...

pretty much all FPS and racing games are the same and don't even get me started on sport games...
