Blast from the past time once again, it seems. Falcom recently announced that they are reviving their dusty, old, top-down ARPG series, Brandish, with a new installment: Brandish: The Dark Revenant for the PSP.

You may recall the original line of Brandish games appearing from the early to late 90's in Japan on the SNES and PC. If you don't, that's understandable since only one of them has an English version: Koei's 1995 SNES port of the first game.

This latest entry into the series will have the swordsman Ares and the sorceress Dela (or Varik and Alexis as they're known in the US) returning  for another dungeon crawl. The new game will feature revamped graphics and more tolerant game mechanics for new users (for example, you can now save anywhere).

Veterans of the game will be pleased to know that they're keeping the focus on puzzle solving and strategic boss fights, which the original games were known for.

Brandish: The Dark Revenant will be released in Japan on March 19.

Because it's easier to cash in on nostalgia than it is to create new works.

This is one reason why the PSP is going to ***** in terms of game quality folks. The industry is getting lazy and just rehashing ***** we already play through emulation.

It's no wonder the games market for the PSP is falling into a black hole...
