ESA: a third of adults will give video games as holiday gifts - Image 1It seems that this holiday season isn't just a time for making merry, but for handing out surveys as well.

According to data gathered by KRC Research, which in turn were provided by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), around 30% of American adults are estimated to give video games as gifts during the season.

But the fun doesn't stop there. The ESA-bared KRC Research poll also indicated that more than 34% of adults will be playing video games with friends or family during the holidays, making video games not only the gift of choice, but the pastime of choice for adult Americans.

The ESA noted that the adults' common reasons for wanting to play video games with others was because they enjoyed doing so, and because playing video games was a means for them to relax from all the holiday stress.

The ESA neglected to mention, however, exactly what kinds of games the respondents intend to play. For all we know, they may be eyeing Manhunt 2 (PSP, Wii) or any Grand Theft Auto game, for that matter.

This is nothing new

Ive been asking for video games for xmas since 1985 when I got the NES. Now that Im quite a bit older I just buy them myself, but always seem to buy more around the holidays. I can remember some pretty serious marathon sessions with my cousins during the xmas break. Ahhhh, good times!

yep

When I was a kid, no adults played videogames. They were just considered toys. Now the games have gotten better, the consoles are more like computers and high end electronics (except the Wii) and we have grown up with them. It will only get better with time.

except the Wii

late time i checked the wii is the most innovated of the three systems

yeah,

but mostly for the kids and the elderly. (BTW, do we get some kind of reward for jumping up the PSP 3.52 article or something??)

.

Because it has an onscreen pointer? Because you can create a stick figure Mii that looks like a third grader drew it? Because of the 6 year old processor technology? Because of cheap plastic accesories like the zapper and wii wheel? Why is it "innovated" (unless you mean past tense?) Sure it would have been sweet 6 years ago if Nintendo supported it like the Gamecube but times have changed man!
