Enterbrain: Sony beats Nintendo in Japan last year |

According to the latest figures released by Famitsu publisher Enterbrain, both Sony's console and its portable hardware beat Nintendo's platforms in Japan for the first time since their release.

The PlayStation Portable was the best-selling hardware platform in Japan for 2010, beating out the Nintendo DS by over 100,000 units, while Sony's home console, the PlayStation 3 outsold the Wii but by a lower margin.
Here's the hardware sales for the year as translated by Andriasang, spanning from spanning March 2010 to March 2011 with life to date sales on parentheses. (DS sales include sales of DS Lite, DSi and DSi LL while PSP sales include sales of PSP Go and the original unit.)
- PlayStation Portable: 2,640,499 (16,867,853)
- Nintendo DS: 2,523,142 (32,598,870)
- PlayStation 3: 1,407,126 (6,341,950)
- Wii: 1,397,498 (11,534,590)
- Nintendo 3DS: 801,423
- Xbox 360: 195,563 (1,448,665)
Now moving onto the software side of things. Nintendo's Pokemon Black & White leads that charts with over 5,149,022 units sold to date, while Capcom's latest monster hunting title follows with 4,372,182 units sold.

That's dumb. Everyone that wanted one has one, but everyone still wants a ps3 and psp. When something is constantly and consistently wanted, that is success.

Really, the DS relied on having a game for everyone while the PSP relied on a few mega-hits to drive system sales.
