Elder Scrolls IV coming to PSP and PS3? |

Software gaming developer Bethesda has announced a release of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for the PlayStation 3. A PSP version is also in the works. Some in the gaming world have found the idea of a PSP version surprising, although this game has been ported to various platforms in the past, including the Nokia N-Gage. Considering the popularity of the PlayStation platform and the growing number of people playing Elder Scrolls, the move seems logical.
The PS3 release is scheduled for November of 2006, although no date was given for a PSP version.
Update: Bethesda states "At present we have no announced plans to bring Oblivion to any platforms other than PC or Xbox 360..." For more information please read the updated news story.

And why is it bad. The only bad thing was that to make all the 360 fan happy, oblivion had to be down scaled so the PC version wouldnt be better than the 360. To bad all the PC users can still edit there ini files and increase everything. With the view distance and grass hacks, it looks amazing on PC.Far Far better than the 360 version. I bet you mad that condemed also came to PC. Be happy with what you have, and like wise. Be happy the developer can make it multi platform, make more money. And in turn make even better games.
And its easy to fit this on 1.8 GB for PSP. The textures will be seriously downgraded. Speech will probably be dumbed down or removed.
To bad Betheda focused more on the graphics than the game. Dont get me wrong, its a good game. But the level scaling is totally messed. Thank god for the mod scene.

It's not so much a question of graphical prowess as much as a quantity of content and simultaneous calculations. Oblivion on the PC and X360 keeps track of the position of every single little object on a huge area, of the movement of thousands of NPCs according to a day/night cycle, of physics for every single movement. That's all without counting the graphics, the sound and the more mundane gameplay calculations.
As much as I believe in my little PSP, I doubt it is able to do even close to all this.
So it would have to be seriously gimped in order to fit; any not only on the graphics.
Oh, and I'd like to point out that Oblivion is definitely not the kind of games you bring on bus rides; lots of loading times and gameplay that encourage long sessions.

@3: how does it make sense not to buy the console, because a company put a game on it? wouldn't it make more sense to do the opposite since Bethesda somehow let you down? It just sounds more like you want to say something negative about it, and never intended on buying one in the first place.

Wtf is wrong with you? Your not going to buy something because theres a popular game ported to it?

Yes, this is sooooo *****ing sweet! If the PSP version is a lot different from the Ps3 Ill probably get both! That game is awesome but I wasnt going to buy a xbox 3Sh*tty or upgrade my comp to play it.

View distance for buildings is amazing, far textures are in highres, i never see grass draw, and the relections you get after the tweeks are amazing.
And now there are the mods to de-consolize it, which make it feel much better on the PC. Overall Obivion feels more like a PC game to me, kinda like how PGR feels more like a xbox game. All IMO of course.
@37 You can get free horse armor for PC, just look around.
@26 agreeded, fanboys suck.

not @26.

Awesome news, It might have HD graphics on the PS3 - the xbox360 game couldnt fit it into the DVD. It will also be great to have it on the PSP, I definitely think its more than possible.
Soon you will have MMORPGs on the the PSP, oooooo. FFXI anyone?

Anyway, i hope that TES is released for the PSP, don't care if its III or IV, but it has to come with the same gameplay in III and IV

It's a shame they posted this article prematurely. I usually trust the posts on this site, but it's unfortunate they had to do something like this.

Now it should be obvious how wrong this article is.

I too have a gameing PC and while I generaly would agree with you I happen to like playing this peticular game on the X360 controller. Also while I could use my wired controller on my PC I would rather not have to set it up, tweak the controls/sensativity, and I like playing on my 55" HDTV from my couch. Most of this is my opinion/view on things but I though I would share it anyways, No hostility is meant by it.
40 - WTF are you talking about? The 360 version is ALL in HD. In fact Bethesda said that they even had room to spare on the disk.

"At present we have no announced plans to bring Oblivion to any other platforms than PC or Xbox 360"
Official word from Bethesda!
This wasn't annouced, nor was it really rumored. It was some guy on the Oblivion forums claiming he saw a release sheet that said both of these titles on it (eg. Someone Bull*****ting) It's about as likely as a Playboy Orgy at the vatican.

Most likely the PSP game will be a different story but that is ok it will be the best RPG on the PSP and that will help sell the PSP's a lot more.
I also think Bethesda would do this to bring in more money.I think this will be good because if they sell PSP's and PS3's of this game it brings in more money for the fifth game.
I just hope the PS3 gets the downloads as an extra goodie to be added to the game. There are three downloads as of now and by the time it comes out on the PS3 there could be even more added to it.
I really think that they would be included but you never know.

Plus, they are not familiar at all with the PlayStation format. I doubt that they can become familiar with the format and port the game to two different consols in 5 months.
Not gonna happen.

The PS3 version has not been denied, but has not been confirmed either. The only possible hint Bethesda ever gave was way last year, when in one of their regular statements on their website said that apart from the Nokia Ngage version which is an entirely seperate entity, Oblivion was ONLY being made for PC and next gen consoles.
Link to PS3-they didnt say only 360
PSP-Isnt next gen console, so no chance in hell basically.
Sorry to dissapoint. PS3 is a possibility, though I would estimate it to be no better than a 25% chance.

Bethesda has not announced any such thing it is nothing but wild rumors and Bethesda has been asked about the rumors and they deny it. Granted the response leaves opening for a possible future of it happening but Microsoft has Bethesda in thier pocket at the moment.
Further more it is not even on Bethesda's site.

1. there will be no porting of the game(most likely)
2. this is more of a argument between "fanboys"
we, as the gaming comunity need to come together as ONE and say" WE WONT PUT UP WITH *****TY GAMES AND HALF A$$ED PORTS ANYMORE" we must all learn to accept one another whether it be xboxers or PCers or PSers, the bottom line is that we all love gameing and lwe need to focus on that insteada of the platform
thus sayeth Lord CInder
