EGM to resume publications this year |
Ó
Gaming mag EGM is on its way back to printing and store shelves now that its founder, Steve Harris, has re-acquired its trademarks and publishing rights. According to the press release, Harris entered an agreement with Ziff Davis Media and the former now has plans to re-launch Electronic Gaming Monthly in the second half of 2009.
Harris was very pleased with the re-acquisition of his baby:
The re-launch of Electronic Gaming Monthly represents a welcome opportunity to continue delivering quality content to gaming enthusiasts.
I feel honored to once again be associated with this respected magazine. The talented writers and designers who built upon EGMÂ’s original vision have left behind a publication that is uniquely positioned to be successful.
We have exciting plans for the evolution of what will once again be a leading independent voice for the gaming community.
The twenty year success of the EGM brand has always been built upon a commitment to its readers who I believe will enthusiastically embrace the changes we are planning to introduce.
As for the EGM staff, there's no word yet if Harris is planning to get "Milkman" James Mielke and company back on the job. More will be announced at - you guessed it - next week's E3.
When EGM shut down:
- EGM ceases publication; February issue to be available online
- Ziff Davis today: 1UP sale, layoffs, EGM shutdown

Freaken Awesome!
I'll subscribe just as soon as there is info on how to do that XD!
Whats wrong with acquiring information of the net like everyone else??
Haha, I laugh at you. Can you carry your computer around with you to read a magazine (no smartasses saying "yes, my laptop")?
Do you get funny Reader Letters and great remarks online? You don't get the same quality of information and reviews as you do in a magazine.
EGM is the best magazine you can read, I always almost read every single page.
Magazines Vs. Net - who wins?
PS to everyone: Vote Magazine or Net, I'll post a score (i.e. Magazines 76% - Net 24%) in a few days.
I just like having that tangible information in my hands every month. EGM was and will again be the best gaming mag out there. While the net gets its updates on news daily with a lot of announcements making its way to blogs and such, Magazines still often times get a lot of exclusives and interviews with developers and things like that that you just can't get on the internet. aside from grainy scans of magazine pages.
Also EGM really liked to establish that connection with readers and staff with the personalization of everyone with pictures and captions and stuff that you don't see on a lot of blogs on other magazines.
For all that stuff you said, plus they still have exclusive articles with lots of great info and pictures you can't find anywhere else (10 page special on Mass Effect 2 in the latest OXM)
Reading mag > loading a thousand different webpages on a shi*ty site like Gamespot to read the same info
It was gone?
