EA's John Riccitiello: Hollywood needs games now more than ever |
Ó
The CEO of one of the biggest game publishers in the video game industry made headlines today with his strong and bold statements. John Riccitiello of Electronic Arts said that Hollywood needs games now more than the gaming industry needs them.
This belief of Riccitiello comes from the way video games are now achieving an all time high in entertainment media, as pitted against one particularly medium, movies.
With the way things are now developing, he compared the situations of movies and video games in the market. Riccitiello told Financial Times:
The buzz in Hollywood, which I heard from some Hollywood folks is people are worried whether Iron Man the movie is going to get killed by Grand Theft Auto the game.
I don't think I've ever heard of that before.
There is more interest today from Hollywood to make movies out of our games than there is interest in our industry to make games out of their movies. There's a big reset happening now.
Well, this is certainly something interesting. There might actually be a rise in the way video games are now being embraced by society. What do you guys think? Can the words of John Riccitiello signal the rise of video games to new heights?

Today games rival many good movies in the way the stories are told. The games industry has long ago showed the world that they can make more interesting stories than a lot of movies. Compared in money made, a lot of games are making millions more dollars than movies. Some none gamers don't believe it but it is a serious truth. One of these days just about everyone will play video games when non gamers will be long gone. I can't wait to see what games will look like when I am a great grand parent. Maybe it will be like The Matrix or something.
A grand parent playing GTA...
GTA XXX (GTA 30) or something. :D
