» wow

those games aren't that old. I'm sure a lot of people still play them online. EA is a bunch of money grubbing bastards

by Anger - 2007-08-02 09:31
» yep thats right...

yep thats right - EA yet again shafts anyone that plays games older than 6 months. you would think people would realise there being shafted - all ea has to do to support any game and not have to create and maintain servers is include server support for each client.

they wont do this because they want you to run out and buy there 'new' (for new read: slightly updated old *****) game. theres making money then theres taking the piss. i was hit by this before when they killed one of the older need for speeds and i swore i would never play or buy another ea game - and i have yet to break that word. if they dont want to spend money on servers thats fair enough - but why the hell dont they let OTHER PEOPLE make there OWN servers????? money.

» THIS IS BS

EA, why don't you refund us half of our money back since you are taking half of our PAID FOR games. I used to be a big Need for Speed fan until EA started shafting people. GO RIDGE RACER! I still have a grudge against them for scrapping Thrill Kill after they bought the company about to release it.

» Bad business practice

I personally don't play EA's online-enabled games, but that sucks. Why can't they just have one master game and include updates on a monthly basis instead of forcing people to buy new versions of last years games? New animations, rosters, decals, cars, characters, moves, etc. can all be downloaded. Paying an extra $50-$60 for minor updates is paying too much. Then again, the average consumer doesn't know these things, and they believe that it's too much of a hassle. EA will take advantage of that and milk all it can from fans of whatever series.

*****ing homo ea as usual, lets shutdown servers for 1 year old games, they dont even say if these games are popular, it makes sense that a good amount of people play these games (i dont i hate ea)

by hartleyshc - 2007-08-02 12:23
» yes they are!

of course they are old. any sports game that isnt the latest version automatically drops in value by about 95%. go to your local game shop and see these games in the discount bin for about $2-$3.

the reason? because everyone who actually buys and plays sports games love them, and will continually buy the next latest and greatest *with of course, the latest rosters* a game soon to be 2 seasons old will have little replay value for the common sports gamer.

havent you seen the new madden commercial? all it is is people waiting in line for their dumb game. its as if a new final fantasy game came out.

im not saying this is a practice i follow, but thats how pretty much all of the people in the sports gaming community act.

» i know better

i know better than to buy EA. they've ruiined many great game series and now this...when i was a kid renting genesis games i used to think high of EA. good thing i stay clear of EA games. where i work part time at walmart in the electronics department, ill recommend customers to buy the non-EA version of a sports game. not only because i hate EA, but because i think the customer will actually get a better game that way. ill say get the sony version, etc whatever just not EA.

» nfs games are good,

online is just boring. read (ONLINE). nfs carbon at least. its too easy for people to cheat so it sucks.

by ME - 2007-08-02 17:53
» ummm

arent those 06 sports games 2 years old?

they release these games like just before the end of the year

well i know they do for the AFL titles

AFL Live 2006 was released in 05

and AFL Live Premiership Edition 2007 was released 06

i dont think asking you to buy the new versions for online play isnt really asking that much

OK, so maybe the sports games have about as much replay value as a roll of toilet paper. But the driving games? Thats just wrong. They should keep the servers running until they release the server code/binaries and a patch for the game to let it use alternate servers.

» I hatEA

With all the money they make off of Madden and all their other sh*tty games they can't afford to run a few more servers. ESPN 2K5 is still running and that game is 3 years old.

by ecule watt - 2007-08-03 02:41
» ecule watt

these games are mostly from '06 and '05. And what, ea couldn't afford the servers?

by sdaf - 2007-08-03 05:32
» fdsa

As mentioned in one of the first few posts, I'm one of those people who plays only the latest sports games for the roster updates. Also, no one even plays on the '06 servers for most of these (NBA Live 06 barely had anyone even before '07 game out) so I don't mind. However, I don't actually buy these games, I'm a PSP user, if ya know what I mean..

Time to throw out my Madden 06 collectors edition. The only reason I still play it is for online.

In any sport but baseball, the year is the year the season ends. (Madden 07 is the 06-07 season, etc.).

» /too lazy to log in

I just buy the EA games (2K Sports are *****) every 3 years or so and manually update my teams roster.
