eaIf this latest listing for Gamestop is any indication, it seems that EA is reviving a few of their classics for the PSP in a retro-compilation titled EA Replay. This probably does not come as a big surprise, as other big name publishers such as Capcom, Sega, Midway, Taito and Namco has released compilations for years on other platforms, and it seems that only now is EA jumping on the bandwagon.

According to Gamestop, EA Replay is slated for a October 3 release date with a retail price of US$29.99 and will feature 14 of EA's blasts from the past including:
  • B.O.B. : First released 1993
  • Budokan : First released 1990
  • Desert Strike : First released 1993
  • Jungle Strike : First released 1993
  • Haunting Starring Polterguy : First released 1993
  • Mutant League Football : First released 1993
  • Road Rash : First released 1992
  • Road Rash II : First released 1993
  • Road Rash III : First released 1995
  • Syndicate : First released 1995
  • Ultima - The Black Gate : First released 1994
  • Virtual Pinball : First released 1993
  • Wing Commander : First released 1993
  • Wing Commander - The Secret Missions : First released 1993
They sure dont make games like that anymore! Be sure to stay tuned to QJ.net for any further details.

can't these games be emulated for free?

Why the hell would you pay $30 for game you can get for free (with emulators and ROMS)? blah... (B.O.B. is a great game)
by Mosquito - 2006-08-15 05:07:06
@7

Because the roms you download are illegal while this compilation is :) Of course at the end you'll be playing the same game.

Syndicate was not first released in 1995, they are obviously getting confused with Syndicate Wars which was released on the PS1 and PC in that year. Syndicate was originally released on the Amiga in 1993.

Wow Great Idea..... NOT

Wow its not like I have most of those games on my psp already... go DGEN

Ultima

This compilation is worth it for Ultima VII alone. For a system starved for RPGs, it's nice to be getting one of the best ones ever produced.
by - 2006-08-15 08:26:40
more crap

Just what we need games that we can already play on the PSP and hey----lets pay for them!

EA Sucks!

I can understand Capcom bringing out a best of/retro collection but EA? Try making a best of after you have made some decent games, money grubbers!
by - 2006-08-15 09:32:13
Worst thing about this is that those games is called "their classic" - EAs classic games.

for instance, Bullfrog wasnt bought up when they released Syndicate.

EA classics aren't really 'from' EA...

Besides, who knows if these are PC versions or just SNES/Genesis versions run through some sort of emulator on the UMD? Ultima VII runs on PCs and some Pocket PCs & Sharp Zaurus via the Exult emulator. Everything else can pretty much be run from an SNES/Genesis emulator. WHat I REALLY want to know is if they ported some of those open-source emulators over to the PSP or not. If they DID do that under-handedly then they MUST release the full source code with the modifications they made or face lawsuits. EA is really, really slipping... Do a Wikipedia search for ALL of those games and you'll see I'm right. And almost all their dates are wrong...Ultima VII was released in 1992 and NOT 1994. But the SNES version of Ultima: The Black Gate WAS released in 1994. I think we're all being had by EA. I think these are NOTHING but their SNES/Genesis console ports and probably using open-source emulators because EA is pretty *****ing lazy. In other words, we already have ALL of this right now on the PSP - FOR FREE - via emulation.

NAW

Its definately not an emulator as EA would never take risks like that. I don't know any of these games, and I probably won't get it.

Where's the Madden and NHL?

Madden 92-95 and NHL 94-95 Those would have have been much better.
by - 2006-08-15 17:23:36
Great Classic

Desert Strike, Jungle Strike. These 2 games are from the prime time EA (present EA games are crappy). I wish EA can include Urban Strike as well, plus General Chaos, and Mutant Leage Hockey as well.
by - 2006-08-15 17:46:11
Word..

Road Rash 2 and 3 alone make this collection great, not to mention Desert Strike and B.O.B. What I am wondering is, would this support multiplayer?
by - 2006-09-01 05:38:11
Do EA own Bullfrogs back catalogue?

They need to do another one and include Syndicate Wars (improved sequel) and Dungeon Keeper 2 and make them both networkable like the original PC versions - that would end up as my most prized UMD as they're 2 of my all time favourite games which will never see an update since EA killed Bullfrog :(
by - 2006-10-01 15:44:51
sucks

ea you suck look at bullfrog's roller coaster tycoon and how crap it became aftyer you bought them over, get out of here with your crap games, by the way DO NOT buy fifa 07 it's thw worst game i've ever played, get pro evolution soccer 6 instead.or pes as it's knownn to us brits
