EA president: Skate, Mass Effect sequels, new Burnout in development |
Ó
In a presentation to industry analysts, Electronic Arts' president Frank Gibeau let slip that they will be releasing sequels for both Skate (Xbox 360, PS3) and Mass Effect as well as a new Burnout game. The sequel to Skate and new Burnout game are expected to be released in the publisher's 2009 fiscal year. While the Burnout game would be pretty much expected, the company's focus on Skate has been heralded by Gibeau as an attempt to dethrone Tony Hawk's Pro Skater as the most popular title in the genre:
Tony Hawk has been the Madden of that category for a very long time, and our performance in this first year of skateboarding has greatly exceeded my expectations. I know they're going to come back and be competitive, but these are the fights that EA knows how to win.
With regards to the Mass Effect sequel, Gibeau made it clear that this series "will be a franchise for [EA] for a very long time." The use of the word franchise definitely means that we can expect to hear more from Commander Shepard in the future.
As an interesting side-note, Gibeau also mentioned that EA will eventually be taking over publishing duties for the game from Microsoft Game Studios. While this seems like a pretty good move considering the success of the product, could this also mean that Mass Effect might be going multi-platform in the future?
It looks like Electronic Arts has some pretty big games planned for 2009 and beyond. We'll just have to wait and see if EA's ventures prove successful or not.

Looking forward to all of those :)
Im mainly looking forward to Burnout to be honest. I never played Skate, but i have watched my friend play Mass Effect.
You might want to try out Skate and Mass Effect, both games are pretty solid. That way you can enjoy the sequels even more.
The thought of playing those upcoming games makes this old gamer smile.
It was alright, wasn't really great, but then again the demo isn't anything special. So the actual game probably is better. ME is cool i have watched it and was good for a 360 RPG type games. But i don't have a 360 so i can't really play that. One i will though.
