E3: Sony announces redesigned PSP, video output included |
Ó
Sony's press conference at E3 is currently taking place and there's a lot of new things being revealed for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 (PS2), and PlayStation Portable consoles. But for now, we'd like to focus on the bomb dropped by Kaz Hirai himself. At around 11:48 a.m, Kaz went up the stage and announced a new PlayStation Portable unit. The new PSP is said to be 19% slimmer and about 33% lighter. Hirai also said that it will have a longer battery life and expanded video capabilities. According to the Sony official, it will be available this coming September.
Furthermore, Hirai brought out a copy of movie Spider-Man 2 then pressed a button on the PSP. The video then suddenly appeared on the giant screen behind him. He said that this is going to be part of the new display functions and the same will be implemented to everything that is inside your unit including games and photos.
Quite interestingly, the redesigned PlayStation Portable unit also has the ability to access PS3 and PC hard drives from anywhere in the world because of new connectivity options. After Hirai, Jack Tretton followed next and announced "Ice Silver" PSP that will be offered in the "PSP Entertainment Pack".
This will be offered in the U.S. in September as well for US$ 199 and will come bundled with 1GB memory stick, Daxter, and UMD movie The Family Guy Frickin' Sweet.

Honestly, I'm not surprised/amazed at all.
Anti-first poster.
I Jut bought my FU("/% PSP >=(
hey ahole we a re here for psp stuff not to do your retarded surveys go to hell
I use my PSP everyday to handle my mobile needs. While I think a smaller and better designed PSP is awesome, I sincerely miss a phone-feature.
Sad!
Well im going to try to sell my psp to remplace it for this new one.the phe idea is not a good one, not for a portable game machine..lol
.
ME TOO OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!! OMWGOIHWOIFUW*@ +@)@($($()(+()@
I don't buy this new PSP...because of the new Firmwares then I miss my Custom Firmware *cry* but the TV Output Feature is very goog hope for a realease for the "old" PSP too
I'm so excited about this!!!
it's too fast!!! NOT YET!! PEOPLE JUST GOT THEIR PSP AND NOW THEY COME OUT THEIR NEW ONE???(well better than the DS)
plzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz DONT RELEASE IT YET
THIS IS PISSING ME OFF OMG!!!!!
what the hell people..
If you dont want it dont buy it....
This is good for the PSP community at large, if you just baught it, send it back, and get store credit, then wait till september. Otherwise shut up. I have two PSPs and i will definately get this one (maybe ill give one of my old ones to my brother...)
Good job sony, first a PS3 proce drop, now a redisigned PSP, looks like the battle isn't over yet...
why not add a second analog stick?
Think about it, they found the data in the FW allready, and as you could see in the conference (if you watched it) it was a cable hooked up at the audio port.
Only thing we might need to do is buy such a cable, and if it isn't available, i'm sure there'll be hardwarehacks out soon
cool!
I'll most likly get one. but im going to wait for homebrew, and YES i am able to wait.
Did anyone else notice the position of the speakers?
On the front below the name SONY and on the opposite side of the screen to make room for the video output port.
It wasnt hooked up to the audio port. It was hooked up where the left bottom speaker was at.
I just noticed that they moved the bottom speakers to the top in the screen.
hahaha for all of you that have just bought a psp hahaha i love the psp but i just sold mine for 250 on ebay so wooooooooooh now i get the psp2right away ahahahahahahaha hahahh *****o
There's a video of it right here:
http://www.photocritic.org/t3/t3-psp-slim-and-lite.mov
Can't wait for the TV-out mini USB that works with the new firmware to come out soon...come on hackers?!
I sure hope so, that's about the only thing that I like about the new model.
Where are all the retards now?
You know the *****y idiots who all swore that there would be no redesigned PSP because Sony said so. lmao
where did u watch the video? link plz? thanks
Firmware: 3.60
The PSP was released more than 2 years ago. Someone will always have "just" bought a product before a new revision is announced. Deal with it. The good news is that no one is forcing you to upgrade, and it seems the base functionality will still be the same. (i.e. this isn't PSP2 or anything)
YOU IDIOTS... The firmware will be locked, no updates... means no homebrew.. they would of learned from PSP1.. If you like homebrew stay away from this!
if you can that is.
YOU IDIOTS... The firmware will be locked, no updates... means no homebrew.. they would of learned from PSP1.. If you like homebrew stay away from this!
to hyAxis. that looks no different to the current psp. it looks the same. but i guess that must be it. im really not impressed by it. and why would they take away infrared?
Unless you're talking a second stick that's mapped to the face buttons, they couldn't add a whole additional analog stick because then any games that use it would not be playable on the old PSP.
you can't have two different control schemes on the same console...it would alienate all of the old psp owners, force developers to develop for two different control schemes, and ultimately kill the system..
http://e3.gamespot.com
Well, apparently, they never really had a plan for it. I don't like the new UMD loader, looks cheap.
then the games will b different for the old and new psps
maybe cuz they didnt find much use for it,
so they took it off.
THe only reason they r about to release this psp, is so that homebrew can just die
k, heres my bank account number:

send me $1milion.
KTHXBAI
think about it man, if they add one, the games be4 will not be compatible with it, and it'll be total different from the PSP 1, sony just want to remake the PSP SO THERES NO MORE HOMEBREW + more ppl will buy it!
here the link for the comparison pics and video
http://www.t3.co.uk/news/247/games/psp/psp-2-thin-and-lite
didnt sony completely deny rumors of a new psp design just a few weeks ago?? they should have said no comment. cause it just made them look like liars who cant control sensitive material until a press release.
Regardless of the added security in the firmware and / or motherboard, eventually this new Psp will be hacked. Sony have perhaps prolonged the time it will take to accomplish revision but it will be done eventually. Homebrew forever!
IT REQUIRES A PS3.
it has no IR port :(
Why are people even complaining about homebrew anyhow. Thats what your first psp is for. Your second (being this new one) will be used for the new functions/incase you brick your first one.
the question now is "WHO WILL HACK IT" dar_alex isgone +(
HEY SINCE a new psp is coming do u think they'll let him hack PSP1?

That url doesnt work. Its not a video url. Get another pease so i can see it!
cause its a redesign not a psp2 or whatever...... its a "slim" psp
The button he pushed was the Display button. not "some button".
But the ps1's originally did not have analog sticks and later released compatibility with dual analog controllers. Why can't they do this for the PSP?
im logged in as someone eles. im not LuNy6. i just got on and i dont know how this happed....btw psp needs a 2nd analog stick & old games are compatitible, its psp1 that wont play psp2 games
i bet this PSP will still be hackable. i mean look at the first PSP, they didnt think we could hack it, but we did. there is always a loop hole in security. just wait, eventually sumone will hack it.
i saw some picture and i see no diferense only that the wifi switch is in a different place
and taht tv output thing is not in the psp its in the firmware
No internal memory for all those movies and songs Sony wants to sell you. No additional ram to make web browsing actually useful. No touchscreen when touchscreens are clearly becoming the trend.
Buy another PSP after I sold my first one? No chance.
This psp does'nt look much different from the original... I'll stick with my psp for now... then when I'm ready, I'll move onto this one.
Those of you who are complaining about the security updates on the newer psp and telling people not to buy one should think twice.....It doesn't hurt to have two psp's u know. U could siply have the old one with custom firmware and the new one with its new redesign, who knows what hidden capabilities this one has, all I know is that when this one hits the market I'm buying....then I'll have three. XD
If you watch the video on YouTube, it shows the video output options screen. There are options to set the type of video cable and screen ratio. Those wouldn't be necessary if the PSP just streamed the video to PS3 and into your TV.
one.. dark alex is gone so... forget about hacking and else please... two... this is one of the best move in video and media fans... now.. u can have a portable dvd player and dvd player in one system... now tell me isn't worth buying an UMD movie when u can travel with ur movies without rip it to have it in your psp... and with slimmer look... and for the guy who don't like the umd tray... u have to like it.. it will be always close or u are always keeping it open and show everybody.. "look my UMD tray is awsome" not.. so.. if that what make the psp a slimmer look.. make it more cheaper then... anyway is a redesigned PSP not a PSP2.. don't expect too much... and for the people that just bought one just return it to the stores, get the money back and wait september... for everyone else... the same game will work with the new and old PSP.. don't argue for something stupid...
I'll just buy another PSP (the new one) for new games and tv output etc, and keep my hacked ceramic white PSP for all the homebrew.
am gona keep my psp 3.40 oe a because its the best firmware and it will last for ever because you can put games of al the consoles of every generation
like nes snes nintendo 64 PS1 AND EVRY THING and plus you can download isos (wich is illigal but you still can) this psps with custom firmwares are special
in the future it might get a ps3 emulator LOL HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH AHAHAHAHA
The GBA was a full-out new system in the Game Boy line, much similar to the PS3's relationship to the PS2. This redesigned PSP is like a Game Boy Pocket compared to the original Game Boy. If you add a hard drive (which would make the system very expensive-have you seen the prices for the iPods-even the 30 gig ones?) and a second nub, it would be like releasing a new system with NO graphic advance whatsoever. (Now, the idea of a nub that actually works would be better...)
the new psp is just slimmer, and with different switch, button, and port placements. everything else like video output is just a gimmick for people to buy a totally useless machine. i use my psp all the time, and it does everything that the new psp does. in my opinion this is totally useless.
It's not worth buying one if my favorite movies (usually older ones) don't come out for UMD and I don't have a computer to download new movies with. I'm going to buy one soon, but somehow I doubt the PSP software is compatable with my operating systems of choice (Mac, Linux, Solaris, UNIX, a couple of my own design. Heck, I'm not even sure it's Vista compatable.) Actually, it would make good business sense for the PSP to not be compatable with Vista. It would reduce the budget with which Microsoft could create new devices that endanger Sony, such as the Zune and the 360 Falcon.
As like all firmwares, it will get old, fast, and you will start craving homebrew again.
that the psp looks crappy and toyish... the edges are all rounded and the shiny black color just doesnt work with the new model....the white looks best second is silver...
That is the uglyist thing in the world. it looks worse than the popstation :) I may buy a ceramic white on though. also, we will need new faceplates! :(
The psp works wth any operating system... because it works like an usb reader... not software needed... if u want to use the software sony had ok but is useless... so... just drag and thats it.. just found a mp4 converter that works with ur operating system
ir port is gone!!!!! oh no!!!!!! kidding.
I hope they either hack the new one or the homebrew community really cranks out some really good stuff to bash the new one. More video support would be cool.
new colors for a new redesigned psp and we still dont have a white or blue psp for the u.s. Sony needs to step up there game soon or they're gonna leave some bad public relations
They didn't upgrade th onboard RAM, net surfing will still suck. No IR, so no keyboard! UMD door looks flimsy as hell. When watching the video and looking at my own PSP I see no difference in depth and it's supposed to be thiner. Un-hackable till hackers get ahold of it. No built in CAM nor Cell function, they're releasing this revised PSP in September yet US still hasn't received the GO Cam yet. SONYs Fuucking Up!
It doesn't look bad honestly, but a 1200MaH battery? They must have the chips on a lower process and a lower power screen, because the normal PSP battery is 1800.
did anyone else notice "screen saver"? is this new or old? psp new model exclusive?
I just got my PSP a few weeks ago, man I wish I had this, slimmer, lighter, video out.
BUT
I like having FW 3.40OE-A, which I image will have a long time coming to this new PSP.
The speakers have been re passioned so the audio should be louder now. The Headset jack is re passioned so it's not in the way of your fingers supporting it whilst playing. Wll they did was make it slimmer which I can't tell that it is thiner, re passioned a few things but all in all left it alone as if nothing was done to it. No second nub, No bigger RAM, which is one of their worst decisions and on top of that no ports for external control. All they really did was maybe make it a few cm thinner if that.
sigh... its different man, even though the ps1's originally did not have analog sticks it was easy for sony to later release dual analog controllers because all ppl had to do is buy the new controller, in the psps case u cant just go and buy the second analog nub!
im definitely gonna buy it. just i gonna wai till it gets cracked and then can run homebrew.or i might buy it in september and never upgrade until cfw comes out. but for now ill stck with my modded psp with 340 oe-a! XD
Someone mentioned "locked" firmware, meaning no updates.
So, if that one firmware is cracked, then all firmware revisions are cracked.
kapish?
A large amount of you are obviously new to the scene. When I first got my PSP, Firmware 1.0 and 1.50 were the ONLY firmwares that supported firmware, and the ONLY downgrader available was from 2.0. DO YOU THINK THEY KNEW THAT BY NOW THEY WOULD HAVE 3.40 OE-A?!
This still won't deter people from thinking they are the greatest people in the world by repeatedly spamming "THERES NO HOMEBREW AND NEVER WILL BE ON THIS NEW PSP" ITS A SLIM PSP, NOT A NEW ONE for starters, and ITS JUST A FIRMWARE, IT TAKES TIME, BUT YES, IT WILL GET CRACKED FOR HOMEBREW
Don't be so naive and stupid. seriously.
YOU CAN DOWNGRADE A 3.50 PSP NOW WITH THE LUMINES DOWNGRADER
you can't
the firmware is not 3.50 but 3.60
you can see it clearly here:
http://www.photocritic.org/t3/t3-psp-slim-and-lite.mov
:]
Game Boy was released in 89', and the Color in 98'. That's 9 years... PSP only has 2 years under it's belt.
I honistly have to sya the new psp looks cheap and flimzy and like *****.
The origional looks soooooooooo much better its not even funny.
why revise any way if there not giving us internal memory or a brighter screen, i mean really the ds had 3 versions before thay matched the sleek look of the origional psp.
the pictures make the psp look kinda crapy. its not as confortable as normal psp, its more fakly made
No point replying to everyone's comments individually, so I'll make my comments here (I bet my line feeds will be stripped):
1) Of course it will not allow homebrew. Do you think the original intentionally allowed unsigned code? The redesigned PSP will be cracked eventually, just like almost all PSP firmwares and motherboards to date.
2) Obviously Sony aren't going to include radical new features like a touch-screen, that would completely break backwards compatibility with the current PSP and force publishers to write two versions of their games. This is a redesign, NOT a brand new model (comparable to PS2 and the later slim model).
3) I don't know where this idea that Dark_Alex did all the work in the hacking scene has come from, but it's completely incorrect. DAX didn't contribute to the 1.50 era, which was a huge aspect of the homebrew scene. The homebrew scene wasn't dead before DAX arrived, and it won't die now that he's gone.
1) it looks like all sony did was create a hybrid love child of the now "first-gen" psp and the mock up psp from the time before it was released, if you don't like it, don't buy it.
2)the whole "video out" system can't only apply to the "Second-gen" psp due to the fact it would alienate the entire psp-fanbase who don't, won't, or can't buy the new system.
3) ITS ONLY FREAKING JULY, it's probubly a safe bet that the new psp will go through a couple revamps before being released
locked firmware? how will that work, presumably they will always upgrade the original psp`s firmware throuout its life, and new games will only let you play if you update to a new sony firmware, so how deos that work on the new psp if it had a locked firmware? i mean wouldnt it have to run on the same firmware as the original psp, or will you now get 2 parallel firmwares for each version of the console? or will sony stop supporting original psp firmware updates.
i guess what im really getting at is would a new psp be CFW-able? if the answer is no then im definately not interested, otherwise i would give my wife my old psp and buy a new one.
didn't see F1's post... good point though
r
atleast they moved the speakers and the new battery cover looks much better than the old one... I dunno about the umd door and i hope they got a queter motor. I am pissed that they didnt add more ram for better web surfing!!!!! Maybe if we complain loud enough they'll change it (remember the boomerang ps3 controller?). And all the ppl complaining about no second analog stick, there was never any hope for it so drop it!!!!!!!!!!

it doesnt say any where that the firmwares locked stop listening to rumors, If you look at the video its 3.50, last time i checked i've never seen a firmware be revised they just upgrade to another one learn what the ***** your talking bout retards
HOLY *****! did you guys notice this? i saw version 3.5 in the video! yes! 3.50!! not 3.51 or 3.6... 3.5!!!
downgrade-able anyone?
Yes its a feature of the firmware to have the video out options, but it takes PHYSICAL DESIGN to get the video to Come out of the psp. its not like someone ca MAGICALLY "HACK" the original psp to do video out through the audio port or the usb. The video simply hass nothing to PHYSICALLY do with these parts of the unit. and yes the audio port on the New PSP has the vidoe out, but its like an ipod. Please look at your standard headphone/earphone cable end, you'll see to little rings. those give you stereo sound. The ipod videos have the same thing except built in to the same port is another "ring" or Tier to it supporting video out. The cable it uses has 3 tiers on it 2 for stereo sound and one for video. its really simple concept. The old psp simply doesnt have there 3rd tier built in therefore cannot PHYSICALLY do it. I'm sue someone could hardMOD it, but a hack, that makes no sense at all.............
WTF?!?!? No infra red makes this the best psp ever?!?! The only good thing that I can point out is that the psp disk tray opens out farther allowing better access to the motherboard. Other than that....video out.....who the ***** needs it?!?!?!
I think it is naive to think that the firmware will be crackable this time. I too have had my PSP for donkey's years and started with a 1.5, and have upped, downed and all arounded graded to the customer firmware. However, I also remember the literally hundreds of bricked PSPs that happened at every step of this, and remember the confusion when the ol' TA-80 motherboard complication was discovered. Fact is that a whole new board could quite possibly (probably?) throw up a whole new set of challenges, and how many of the existing crackers are going to buy a new PSP and concentrate on that when all of the existing exploits are going to be completely incompatible with every single crack to date, right out of the box, and they'll be bricking shiney new expensive hardware left right and centre using trial and error to discover that unsurprisingly Sony have closed up every single security hole to date.
Also, I think it is 'seriously' "naive and stupid" to conflate a couple of years of constant work into a projection for the near future. Assuming that it takes the same amount of time to get from a new closed firmware on a new hardware platform to where we are now (custom firmwares) - that's still going to take 2 years, and that's assuming Sony haven't learned any lessons. Now, are you seriously advocating people get the new PSP on the prospect that 2 years from now they MIGHT be able to run homebrew? Despite the obvious fact that there could well be a brand new console (or a newer shinier slimmer and sexier PSP) coming out then?
it makes me angry when they decide to release this when people just bought their psp's i really dont care about the look they just better put the new features in a new firmware update or ill hunt every sony employee
...I see hardly any difference. Wow, it's slightly thinner and weighs less. Hooray. The original was already good enough.
At least they could have update the system speed and add a flash to make it worth buying but since I don't see that I believe it would be a waste of money to but another psp when some game graphic will lagg and battery life is not as good as the Ds is.
i agree with ace
dude...u got to admit my UMD tray is a LOT better than urs...hahah....
how do you put memory cards in it?
How is getting rid of IR, making it almost unoticibly slimmer, a cheap looking umd drive, moved speakers and wifi switch, and video output worth anything? The PSP is fine the way it is. Beside i think sony could intergrate a video out function via firmware with the normal psp.
I'll stick with my PSP1
Where's the second analog stick? You think they'd understand they *****ed up without including it last time...
guys if you look closely at the headphone jack of the new psp
you can clearly see that it has more pins than the current psp. so i don't think that the old psp would be able to do video out. the old psp only has six pins. the new one has more.
A phone feature? So it ends up like N-Gage? No thanx.
I love how some of you are judging the new psp when you have no clue about it.
He said that the player will tell the difference about the slim and less weight, by holding it.
i say it looks cool, especially the ice silver one.
To i_like_games: Listen its a redesign not a new psp, so adding a touch screen is not a option.
If you want one wait until the new PSP2 comes out not a redesign you moron.
it looks like *****ing crap, sony please take it out back and shoot it...please....it looks too sad to let live.
this isn't a big move for the PSP i would wait for the next PSP generation to buy a new one. i'm not going to buy it. i don't feel up to downgrading so i don't use homebrew, but if there is no infrared then you have to have internet wherever you go to play with somebody. i don't recommend using this, it's not worth it.
i do have to admit that the PSP entertainment pack does look cool
The new unit has 64MB of main memory compared to old 32MB. The increased RAM would be used as UMD cache during you play games of course, but there's no reason to keep it unused while web browsing. If SCE's engineers are not absolute *****s, web browsing must be much more comfortable than current model.
ill have to say. if i had the cash id buy one in a heartbeat just for its purpose. ITS SLIM!!! my psp barely fits in my pockets at all, now a slim one is like god comming from heaven with a brand new gemballa mirage saying "hey buddy, mind a gift?" now once for all id say that this is probably going to happen to the original psp. think about it, not so long ago a homebrew app enabled a pc to view the psp screen with usb. there you go ust use ur darn pc conected to your tv and psp. a litle more to bundle but if you have a laptop then not much. also ove the new umd cage. no more flimsy switch and flying umds (ive hit like 20 people with umds "accidentally" in class) and i also love the new backplate. ITS SHINNY. thats one of the thngs i most love about the new colored psps. personally i still think it might be too small to play as you saw the guy in the vid. but if i ever come in contact with some molding equipment for a week or so i think ill make my own psp slimline just how i would want it, i also want the new analog stick if there is one to use acidmods.com new razor 2 board on to make a scond one for my own psp.
There aren't any changes with this PSP that would warrant me to swap out my old one. IMO its just a bid to stamp out homebrewers.
"its not like someone ca MAGICALLY "HACK" the original psp to do video out through the audio port or the usb"
Its called Remotejoy GUI
http://dl.qj.net/Remotejoy-GUI-V1.51-PSP-Tools-Utilities-(on-PC)/pg/12/fid/13740/catid/193
hmm so lets get this streight:
-no dual analog nubs
-no touch screen
-no built in camera
-no built in gps
-no built in GBs of memory
sooo what were they working on all this time? video out!? the old firmware already had provisions for it(read about it somewhere)
thats it! who cares that its
19% slimmer
and about
33% lighter
anyway?!
Don't bother to buy this! It has no cool features and just a shiny back to it! It doesn't run homebrew and nothing in the world would make me want to swap!
dont you guys remember the first picture of ps3???? its obvious that it doesnt look anywhere close to the ps3 that the sony company released right? so dont you guys think that the "recent" PSP redesigned picture could be actually be altered since there is enough time for them to redesign it once more before they release it... ( JUST A THOUGHT..nothin biggie)
exactly bro except i got two hacked PSPs now ill have 3 PSPs GOTTA LOVE IT
OMG, nice to see some pics of the redesign but its just flatter and with rounder edges and lighter. and better battery life, hopefully.
well, im not buying it! there's not much different!
for god sake sony put a second analogue stick on it!
think about it.
if theres no updates, no security updates.
if theres nothing of the sort, itl make it easier for the console to be chipped and being bricked in the future.
in a way it will make things a lot easier.
and also remember, IF IT CAN BE MADE, IT CAN BE UNMADE ;)
think about it.
no firmware updates, mean no security updates or anything of the sort.
If theres no updates, tehn the psp will not be able to e bricked.
It will make the console itself easier to chip/flash, etc.
As i posted above.
IF SOMETHING CAN BE MADE, IT CAN BE UNMADE. There always a loophole or something of the sort. Just give it time. GUARANTEE
SAME SCREEN REFRESHING RATIO???? COME ON, WHY DIDN'T YOU IMPROVE IT!!!AT LEAST SOMETHING INTERESTING AFTER 2 YEARS!!!NOW IT LOOKS LIKE A DAMN TOY, NOT COOL ANYMORE.
O M G Sony, what's going on...Give us some hope please
What the Hell is a PSP2 and where do I get one?
Ummm where does the memory card go? I must be trippin cause I don't see it on the redesign.
I noticed that there are 2 more little holes in the upper part of the PSP that look like the speakers in the old ones.....does that mean we get 4 speakers?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?
Guys check out :
http://www.pspcrazy.com/index.php?page=Articles&action=showarticle&id=249
for a side by side comparison fo the new psp with the old one it's awesome :)
the reason Sony has continued to deny rumors of a new PSP is because they still wanted people to continue to buy the original PSP. think about it, it they admitted 2 weeks before release that they were shipping a redesigned model, who would buy the original? nobody. it's called SIMPLE ECONOMICS... stupid.
Comparison’s between the two:
1. No IR Port
2. The battery pack open/button is different.
3. The speaker system is now located near the top of the PSP.
4. The mic/earphone port is now moves up instead of being in the left groove. The mic port is also a video-out port interestingly enough.
5. The memory stick slot is somewhat different, since it’s not in any of the prototypes.
6. The standard battery pack is 1200 MaH vs the original one of 1800 MaH, don’t know how that makes the battery last longer at all.
Sony you f*cked up, first no IR port (for me very important)
then (probably) no internal space, a VERY ugly UMD drive and now such a UGLY design. No real improvements except
video output and I don't think that many people will use that anyway. Sony really dissapointed me. :( >,<
spankmaster i was underthe impression by the description saying he hit a button and it started playing from nowhere that the video out function was a wireless capability not involving any cables from the psp thus a software alteration not a hardware difference. all it will mean is people will update to a new fw to get the video out function then moan they have lost all homebrew compats. and whine for a year until some1 hacks it which may not even be possible considering how hard it is becoming.
NOOOOOOO!!! i got the first psp and it sucks!!! it has some serious design problems! dust and trash getting into the screen all the time!!! my analog stick got broken after two months of use!!1 the umd drive started making some strange noises after a few time!!! while i was playing ridge racer i pressed the square button to make a drift and the LCD GOT BROKEN TOO!!! OMFG!!! If they're not gonna fix these errors
im not gonna buy the new psp
STFU
this is just a redesign... what do u expect?
"theire is nor bigger ram" ----------------> JUST A REDESIGN
"no touchscreen" --------------------------> JUST A REDESIGN
"no *what ever the F*** u saying*"---->JUST A REDESIGN
IT IS NO PSP2 !!!
so stop typing comments about how disapointed u r
they better have upgraded the wifi, to at least G, and the moved headphone jack? bad. if it is where it was before, it wont stick out. good idea with the speakers on the front though
u shouldnt play ure psp with a hammer
I was worried when I saw the article title, but thank the PSP Gods! It is a piece of *****! I don't have to upgrade and I can still afford a laptop!
I was expecting for a new shape because the current system sucks.
When you are playing for more than ten minutes the thumb starts to hurt because its so uncomfortable. Like when playing racing games when keep holding X it happens.
Stupid sony put so many bonuses but forgot to play a game for more than ten minutes.
I might just buy it, though I need to stock up on my savings first. I mean hey. You don't alway's need the custom firmware if you have decent UMD games with ya right?... Looking forward to, Haha hopefully I get it for my birthday cause it's on my birthday month hahahahaa...
No IR port is a shame for homebrew, BUT Sony officially didn't use it so they wiped it.
1200 mah battery with the same screen ? You must be joking that it will have a better batterylife. Or it must be a superman battery li-ion next gen or something.
I like the new features, but i won't buy it because i already have a normal one.
Also i could take more than a year to crack this baby, DAX is gone, and remember what needs to be done to have homebrew on this, Sony learnd from us !
-New motherboard, uncrackable (TA-087 or TA-088 ?)
-3.60 fw with stronger security
-Totally new prx and rco structure.
And you noobs who are saying that TV-out is a fw issue, NO. See the pin-out of the new psp. It has 8 pins, not 6 like the normal psp ! The two new pins are for color tv output.
It would be funny if someone could build the new features into an "old" psp. So the new umd laser which is faster, the newer battery, new speakers and better umd door.
" No internal memory for all those movies and songs Sony wants to sell you. No additional ram to make web browsing actually useful. No touchscreen when touchscreens are clearly becoming the trend.
Buy another PSP after I sold my first one? No chance."
Why would Sony include a touchscreen on a system that didn't support it before? It would barely get used by developers. May I remind you what happened with the PS2 hard drive?
Including a touchscreen would mean Sony is ready to introduce a new generation of the PSP.
I have never seen so much people crying for an IR port.
It's not like removing something important like the USB plug. A few geeks use it for keyboards and some to use their PSP as a remote control for their TVs. No big deal.
And btw, guys, stop crying "Don't buy itttt" or "Noo Sony don't release it yet I just bought the fat one!!!11". The more PSPs out there the bigger support to OUR console.
Best PSP ever?
Better than my TA-079 3.40OE PSP?
I think not. Looks exactly same except too thin. UMD drive looks ***** still, TV out is a nice feature though. But homebrew is better.
Plus, what percentage of current PSP owners are going to shell out $200 just for a slightly thinner version than what they already have?
So I got two negative responses to my requests for additional RAM, internal storage, and a touchscreen.
Comment: To i_like_games: Listen its a redesign not a new psp, so adding a touch screen is not a option.
If you want one wait until the new PSP2 comes out not a redesign you moron.
Answer: They won't design a PSP2 now. They had their chance to look at how various aspects of the PSP were utilized by gamers and adjust to market demands. But instead Sony decides that we don't know whats best for us and tells us what we should play. I had my PSP for 1.5 years before I sold it. Its useless as a webbrowser. The games are less than stellar (including the horrible game control provided by that well-thought-out analog nub). The UMD format sucks. Ever get a piece of dust stuck in one of those UMD cases that you can't ever remove, and so it eventually starts making circular scratches on the UMDs? UMDs are flawed by design. Sony should have let you mail in UMDs for online credit so you could download the games instead.
Comment: Why would Sony include a touchscreen on a system that didn't support it before? It would barely get used by developers. May I remind you what happened with the PS2 hard drive? Including a touchscreen would mean Sony is ready to introduce a new generation of the PSP.
Answer: The DS is touchscreen and it still plays old games. The iPhone is touchscreen (along with many other new phones). The new Macs this fall will reportedly be touch sensitive and they still run older software. Touchscreens offer a level of interactivity not offered on the PSP, and interactivity is what a handheld is supposed to be. Sony could have easily said new UMD games need the PSP revision B to play. No touchscreen means the new PSP is going to suck just as much as the original one I eBayed.
dssucks... you are the dumbest son of a ***** i have ever heard of..how the ***** did u break your damn screen and analog stick like that. you're a dumb ***** you stupid son of a *****........................................... mother*****er!! !!
lool, a more fragile PSP
Everything about this new PSP Lite is CHEAP
If the video output is through that serial port next to the headphone jack, then i am 99% sure it will not work on the current psp. Why? The serial port on the new psp has 6 pins, the current psp has 3...
Memmory stick is on board look on the bottom of the box 1gb memmorystick included :):)+
this isnt a psp2 u stupid idiot
Place memory stick FOTO plaats memory stick
where is the magic gate??
...where it said you cant update. well if i hear from people who have it in the future, and they say it doenst update, then im not getting it. i hope it updates. otherwise, i will like that tv output.
1st I thought they got rid of it, then I saw a somehow different-reflecting part on the right side of the PSP's top. You can see it in the video.
:)
omg thats retarded im going to pay 200 dollars cause my psp is to heavy, yeah psp1 for me :) ....
tv out and screensaverf look gd but not gr8 i say its much worse why change the umd drive or get rid of ir
sry to u ppl who thinks that DAX is the only PSP hacker cuz there are others.NOOBZ,Fanjita etc
I'm with everyone else on this... Seems a bit futile at the minute. As you can see Sony forgot about the muscle cramps you get from using that analogue stick >.> And the changes really aren't enough to make me go out and waste £100/$200 on another PSP. After all the hype here on QJ, quite disappointed.
Keep the old one for homebrew use the new one for official firmwares.
My mate who works on Sony Japan (hardware division) got a slim PSP like a month ago and gave it to me and you know what? I'm currently finishing the 3.60 OE firmware so every1 can play UMDs backups on it!!!
fawck the new "redesigned" psp. its a peice of *****. its barly different. if u ask me if they were gonna redesign it the might as well made a new one with maybe a touch screen, letting people run homebrew(i mean for real the only reason most people want a psp is to make and run homebrew), more ram, and most of all a second nub for camra controls in games. sony ur programers brains r bull*****!!!!!! !!!
i think alot of you r right these people in mind: i_like_games forgotten332 NoRiGoLo Zidor and Jesus Man. i also think sony just messed up with the locked firmware the second anyone hacks it noobz will just get a patch for homebrew. and i agree with alot of others i just dont have that much time to copy and paste all the names. talk to you later!!
sony is gona lose a lot of money because everybody is gona wait untill the new one comes and nobody is gona buy one untill septembr and the old ones taht are alredy in stores are not gona sell at all
sony you destroy your self.
AND I DONT THINK THIS PSP IS DOWNGRADABLE BECAUSE I THINK THIS PSP FIRST FIRMWARE IS 3.60.
ITS GONA BE HARD TO HACK IT BECAUSE I DONT THINK ANY HACKER IS GONA BUY IT EATHER
AND N E WAYS THERS NO DIFERENSE BETWIN THE ONL ONE AND THE NEW ONE JUST ITS KIND OF SMALLER AND MORE SHINY
AND IT DOES THE SAME THINGS EXEPT FOR THAT AUDIO THING
are you *****in serious they didnt even put another nub??!
A psp phone feature would not have been difficult with voip technology, sony would have just had to include a microphone port, add support in the firmware to send it wirelessly, when the internet is available. Am I missing something?
i might buy me one of these when pigs can fly!
definitely on motherboard. i'm not gonna lie, this is going to be impossible to hack to the point of running homebrew.
Hack it and I will buy it!
TV output = Teh sexy
even though the audio is beside the screen, do you think that it would get in the way of the sound because of your fingers? last time i checked, i don't play with my finger tips....
This may seem a little obvious but, they seemed to have got rid of Dark Alex RIGHT before they announced this update. Can anyone say...f*ck Sony... try making a good console and not making security updates. Ok, know what...Tangent time. They can allow PS3 to be "hacked" but the PSP is a "oh no! Don't do that..." Where does that make sense? Just allow the ***** to be hacked...People bought it, allow them to do what they wish...
i know u wont believe me but i am currently in touch with those who hav this redesigned PSP and am asking them to send me the 3.60 firmware if possible. understand a dump isnt possible yet.
trust me. im currently talking to 8 people with the new PSP, and 5 have promised to help.
watch this site in about a week or two.
honestly.
@spankmaster
It's actually 4 rings for stereo audio +video, 3 for stereo audio and 2 for mono audio.
For video, rings counted from the tip of the plug:
1 - Left audio
2 - Video
3 - GND
4 - Right audio
You'll need a GND if you want them to work :)

@i_like_games and jesus man
it has 64 MBs of RAM. the new psp temporarily loads parts of umds to it to make for faster load times. look it up next time before you make a stupid ass *****in comment like that again. http://s155.photobucket (dot)com/albums/s315/punk51522/?action+view+cur rent+PSPSPEC.jpg
it's got fw 3.50!!!! YES it can be downgraded! w001

Companies such as ebay pay CC to have people try their offers, and when you complete an offer, CC simply passes the money onto you. By spending an average of 3-4 hours a week on cascrate,
I have made 472$ in May, 412$ in June, and 271$ (SO FAR) in July. You get paid in real checks from "KNGSIDE MEDIA" every month that you earn 10 dollars or more. It may seem too good to be true,
but I assure you it IS true. Also, with their referral program, you can refer people by sending them your link (you get when you sign up) and for every buck they earn, you get 20 cents also! (Think how much money you can make if you have 100 people making five bucks a day)
You do not have to enter your credit card or social security number. Nothing Harmful can come from CC. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE 18 OR OLDER, I AM 15 YEARS OLD AND REFERRING PEOPLE, AND I MAKE THIS MUCH MONEY A MONTH
JUST SPENDING A COUPLE MINUTES A DAY ON THE COMPUTER! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR READING THIS.
Think it's a scam? Read this(from the website) "We assure you that this is not a scam! Companies need consumers to try and review products, services, and websites and are willing to pay money to have them do so.
Most of the time you're asked to do this without any compensation, what we do is take the money companies give us for YOUR participation, and give you back up to 75% of it!"
There are alot of websites like this, I have tried almost all of them and this really is the best, and legit one.In addition there is a new UK section opened with more then $200 worth of free offers!

I hear a lot of people talking aabout no RAM upgrades or new processors or second analog sticks... IT'S NOT PSP2!!!! IT"S PSP SLIM!!!! THATS IT!!!! Same thing Nintendo did with DS (just make it smaller, more backlight, more battery life), Sony is doin with the PSP... Only better than DS...
i cant wait
i cant wait
i cant wait
sony u have seriously *****ked up wat the hell is this ***** it look lyk crap lighter piece of *****kin ***** no good fing WOW all u put in tv out put fools better of wit da old one
I'm sorry Sony but this new PSP looks simply awful. Same Design, a bit slimmer and a terrible looking finish. I'm not amazed at all.
I want the white one but I would get too many fingerprints on it. But I will settle for silver, but I already beat daxter!! ):-S
how is the video output goin to work? does it require the ps3? : ( or how else is it goin to stream it straight to the tv?
You could keep the old version and use it for homebrew and stuff. Then get the new one.
Why do you people demand so much for the PSP? "i want it to be a phone with more ram, I want it to have built in memory, i want this, you want that. SHUT THE ***** UP! Stop *****ing you *****N litle Kids, Damb,...if you hate it so much why did you buy it in the fist place?! You are all a bunch of whiney litle kids with their damb toys. THE PSP SERVES ITS PURPOSE-GAMING, MUSIC, AND VIDEOS. THATS IT!. Its not suposed to be cellphone or a computer. JUST A VIDEO GAME. SONY is doing their job! Why dont you just buy yourself a DELL AXIM?
http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/vanity/axim?c=us&l=en&s=gen
But nobody EXPECTED it to succeed. It was Nokia, a company with no experience in the handheld gaming market, and their first attempt was high priced and not really that good.
Now, the PSP has obviousley been a success, hence the redesign. Gaming is its primary feature... How will ADDING a phone feature damage it?
Ahhh, the retards... obviousley going under a new name laughing at their fellow retards in a vein attempt to cover the truth...
Locked? Says who? It's too early to say anything so STFU.
The remodelled PSP will surely have the ability to run any Future Sony FW updates along with the old models. As for security and whether the new models can run custom firmwares, look at the long wait between the GTA:LCS exploit and the Lumines exploit, it could happen on day 1, or after 8 months, but just because one has the patience to wait, or is happy without homebrew that doesn't make them an idiot for buying it. I'd be happy with a non-homebrew second PSP with video output for Ad-hoc family play and sharing vids/pics rather than having to burn a DVD-R and hope the DVD player reads it ok or passing around the PSP
This is released on my birthday, so that is really cool! I'll just have to buy it then.
Basically they haven't listened to anyone ho actually uses the machine past their own restricted firmware. The Machine needs more storage capability like a hard-drive, definitely needed better sound output from the speakers and also internal memory for internet surfing. The best thing they could have done is made the UMD discs Rewritable and change the read head in the unit to a RW one. This way they could actually sell us blank UMD's like DVD-R/+R's and we can at least utilise the unit better for storage. Eventually some third-party developer would make UMD writer units for the PC so we can burn stuff straight from the PC. It's no good them creating a machine with so much potential and then keeping it so under-utilized. The PSP could also have done with a kick-stand to keep it at a viewing angle when sitting on a desk or table instead of always having to find ways to prop it up. A file rename feature would also have gone down a treat in the firmware as well as a cut and paste option. Ultimately the machine needs something like a 30/60gb internal hard-drive to keep it in the running with other media players out there or by next year it'll be yesterdays news.
