Sony PS3-PSP - Image 1

This E3 2008, Sony gave out quite a bit of information that would make any PlayStation 3 fan happy. Well, they've upped the ante by announcing that the PS3 video store will be going live tonight.

The PS3 store offers a number of features, including viewing streaming videos while downloading other content (like demos or games), as well as the ability for users to store the video content on both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable.

No word yet on what content we can download off this new service, but there is no doubt that this new addition adds quite a bit of added value to the console. We should be hearing more about this soon, so be sure to check back here.

If this is a video store with real movies from film companies such as Paramount, 20th Century Fux, Warner Bros., and others then I would like to take the time to thank the Lord in the sky. He has finally answered my prayer for a video service on the PS3! If this is just some extra trailers or something then I would like to thank Satan for squashing my prayer.

"PlayStation 3 owners will be able to buy TV shows for $1.99 and up. They can also rent movies for $2.99 to $5.99 and buy them for $9.99 to $14.99. For example, %u201CCloverfield%u201D can be purchased for $14.99 or rented for $3.99. A high-definition version rents for $5.99."

Sony uploads like what 15 contents every Thursday? Every update has sucked for the past couple months, with crappy themes/wallpapers and trailer of movies from 2005. So I was thinking, if they add movies every Thursday, then there would be a less chance of getting something great on every update.

This looks to be a whole lot better than what the Xbox version will be.

I wonder if the xbox video store will contain any of Sony Picture Home Entertainment's videos ;-)

Looks like a Sony Win, now for a Sony YouTube service.

Will this mean there will be a firmware update and there be a new icon underneath PlayStation Store icon, Or will there be a new section in the PlayStation Store?

Aslong as a newbie can work it out it will be good.

-WB is the biggest

-paramount is massive as well.

-MGM movies are badasz and lots of them, therefore a HUGE company.

-DISNEY.. lol holy crap Disney is HUGE AS HELL.

-lionsgate is awsome and pretty big (though some of their movies suck a s s).

-and of course SONY PICTURES witch i remind you Holds some of the biggest MOVIES to date. so yeah sony wins again.

if your refering to witch ones will be accessible thru the psn movie service.

BOTH HD AND SD will be rentable, alltho ugh i want to find out if you can purchase blu-ray HD movies as well insted of just only SD ones.

# Dependsbolognajoe 2008-07-15 14:53
what you mean by "normal quality". If you watched the press conference he went to download Cloverfield in SD and it said the file size was 1.5 gig. That's pretty standard size for a divx dvd rip. I'm a huge fan of the divx codec and most movies I watch now are divx, but I don't think we can expect the downloads to be exactly dvd/blu-ray quality. I'm happy trading the quality for a quicker download, I'm sure they'll still look great.

i guess i shouldn't expect anyone to just comment on how good it was for them and not try any flawed comparisons...

i'm glad to see some competition for Live Marketplace. maybe we'll see some reasonable rental agreements (24 *****ing hours?!?!?)

"up the ante"? sounds to me like they finally pulled a chair up to the table...

you would think, with all the studios and properties they own, this would of happened long ago. M$ got it done in a year from launch, sony took an extra 6 months?

once the price comes down, or they really get a killer app, i'll buy one again.

either way i'm excited for everyone....

someone commented: 256 players?

seriously? how are they going to pull that off for free?

You can now be sure your movie will actually be in English instead of Italian or Spanish. Infact, it might include multiple languages with subtitle support (on/off).

If this is US release only can you still get in using a US account from Europe? Because it sounds like it!

supporting Sony. Once Dvd HD format gave in it was all over for m$ . It took Sony awhile because they cannot just decide to make it available . Sony is a company from Japan , and all the biggest movie brands are U.S.A based which might of taken awhile to get certain permits and sure them that no piracy would happen but the money will still roll in for them. This will have a big dent in my wallet NO MORE GAS to go watch a movie . lol more games for me

for barely starting, they accually have alot of movies up there for now and they got anime too... sweeeeet! that new psn exclusive anime series looks sweet.

i'll check it out ina bit. its called X'amp or something like that... anyways i think its a badas s service and like the same interface with a lighter more happy setting.

now.. once they come out with flash player then im good to go to sell my imac desktop and grab myself an macbook pro.

i havnt seen or read any bad comments on this service either witch means they did something right.

allthough i am a freaquent downloader and freeloader off torrents,i still like this and will be supporting sony's service as well. :)

Although I'm a complete Sony fanboy, I'm sad to say this won't be better than the Netflix video service. For one, they get to stream their videos, not wait and download them. And 2... they get the entire library of Netflix. That is 10,000 different movies and TV shows.

I still like PSN Download Service better. Just because it has Sony's name on it.

netflix has 10000 titles 9999 are released before 2005 ....... a lil hyperbole there but u get my drift all the movies on netflix are old . here you will get movies as soon as they are released on dvd if not sooner?! (it is possible)

a netflix subscriber myself and love it for the time bieng, allthough ms and netflix got together (witch is great)..i would rather use the psn movie service as its by a trust and more stable company -SONY-.

PLUS if im correct, you can use linux on your ps3 to do streaming netflix strait to your tv? i have linux so ima try it and let you guys know real quick.... if so,then ms is f u ked.

# waitApeaggedon 2008-07-15 18:59
i take that back.. you cant stream from linux cuz netflix doesnt support it (duh im retarted)...

HOWEVER ... you can just freeload off the internet anyways and download movies in GREAT quality as i do.

accually you can watch movies on linux (i forgot lol). and the 360 doesnt have linux,so once again ms fails and sony is still woopin some a s s.

# Sadly, Video Service Is Sub ParCHUCKINGROCKSATSPACESHIPS 2008-07-15 23:47
Why would I want to wait a long time for a HD video that is only 6,000MB to download when I can spend less than 30 minutes driving to Blockbuster and rent the same movie thats 25,000MB+ for the same price. Also standard DVD is way better than these less than 2,000MB downloads. Another thing is these 20minute tv episodes for $2.00 a pop can add up real quick. If Sony wants to get me to pay for these, they need to come up with a flat rate monthly plan. The only problem is that may not appeal to the movie and tv companies that supply the videos.

# wowEclipze_ 2008-07-16 04:08
you just gave your answer to why they can't do the monthly thing.. But I don't see it as "sub par" considering it has movies that ARENT EVEN ON DVD YET.. So you can drive to blockbuster for nothing ^_^. All your doing is just wasting gas money on your 30 min. ride to get a movie rental..

# thatskeengsnake 2008-07-16 04:31
30 minutes going and 30 minutes taking it back . When you can pay 4 dollars and get the movie

( best for Broadband ) users in less than that time.

It's not for everyone but good to know its there.

# you can stream on the serviceduy817 2008-07-16 06:23
just let it download to 20% then hit play while download and you can watch it while it's being downloaded in the background... i 've been doing that with all the videos in the ps store; but then again my dsl is 6Mb/s download.

but look on the bright side, you europeans can just creat an american account... but the downfall is you have to pay with american grean beans and an american plastic as well.

# WHAT??Deviant721 2008-07-16 10:25
i dont know why or how....u think this will be better than microsoft+netfl ix vid service, netflix have basically every movie that comes out, and also the price is a cheap monthly rate for unlimited stream for movies, instead of paying separate fees 4 each movie,

so i think microsoft is the winner

It's a five minute ride but looking, getting the movie and then the ride home total about thirty minutes. Also what movies are on here that isn't at Blockbuster? I do see those $2.00 episodes for 20 minutes of tv reruns though.
