Duke Nukem Never: 3D Realms shuts down, Trilogy development "continuing" |
Ó

Just when you thought Duke Nukem Forever was finally gonna claw its way out of the vaporware bin (seriously, did anybody really think it would?), here comes what could be the final nail in the game's coffin: developer 3D Realms has reportedly shut down.
According to Shacknews, a reliable source explained that the studio's closure came about as a result of funding issues. Both 3D Realms and Apogee Software were supposedly affected, with both companies having to let employees go.
A representative for Apogee and Deep Silver has since issued a statement that whatever is happening with 3D Realms hasn't affected Apogee and Deep Silver. The same rep also confirmed that Frontline Games is also unaffected and that development on Duke Nukem Trilogy (PSP, DS) is "continuing as planned".

more of the man trying to get us down..
They should have typed in DNCASHMAN when they needed it.
I just submitted this for a story about 25 seconds ago. Literally, when the page reloaded, it was the top story. Damn you cruel world! You beat me to the punch!
Game was in development since the late Stone Age, so I didn't expect it to release. Kinda sucks, but I think more people wanted Forever more than Trilogy.

Apogee Software is officially not affected by the situation at 3DRealms. Development of the Duke Nukem Trilogy is continuing as planned and further announcements about upcoming games will be made in the near future. Apogee Software, LLC is a comp

All the shots of this game they were showing, I think they really did plan to release the game. I guess they just ran out of money
Bummer. They should sell the dev rights to a studio that will finally complete the game
Did a little reading on some forums, apparently 2K still does and always did own the publishing rights. Looking like they are at least going to hand the game to a competent studio. No word on if the current work will be tossed aside or finished by said competent studio, hoping they'll use it so we can finally have the Duke back, maybe this or next holiday season
Hahah, I bet these past 10+ years, 3D Realms haven't even created anything to do with Duke Nukem Forever.
It would be funny if it turned out they'd just been sitting there for years, just creating the odd few 3D renders, and then throw them out for the internet to get excited about.
This doesn't affect Duke Nukem For(n)ever, either.
