Dissidia scans: FF12 representation confirmed, Cloud's Advent Children outfit, Sephiroth topless, Ultros summoned, more *Update* |
New Dissidia scans from Famitsu! And they aren't your usual character spotlight either. With the Japanese release looming ever so close now, it looks like Famitsu is milking everything they can from the devs: this Dissidia feature is huge.
The only bad thing is we can't translate much. Which means... you can trust your ever loyal QJ.NET Final Fantasy geek (i.e. yours truly) to bring some details to light.
- Cloud Strife's getting his Advent Children alternate costume (I still wish we had his outfit for Don Corneo as another alt)
- Sephiroth is getting his... uh... fanservice-for-the-females alt-costume (or the lack thereof, rather)
- Ultros is BACK! (...as a summon)
- The EX modes of Zidane and Kuja are shown (go, monkey boys!)
- The EX modes of Bartz and Exdeath are also shown
- There will be no Final Fantasy XIII representation in Dissidia
- FFXII gets representation though - we're just not sure who yet (oooh, I love secrets!)
- as jack_gllghr clarifies, "representation" doesn't automatically equate to character; it could be a summon or a stage or something totally useless... (err, like Penelo - cardboard character, par exellence?) Chances are though, it's a character, seeing as there's one more left that's not yet been revealed.
- Only Cosmos' army (i.e. the heroes) get story mode campaigns, villains don't
- There's a feature to save Replays on your PSP memstick
Square Enix's Dissidia: Final Fantasy for the PSP is to be released in Japan on December 18.
Thanks to heiwa_ryu jack_gllghr for the heads up!

*Update* We finally found some translations care of 1Up. This covers only the round-table interview with the devs (creative producer Tetsuya Nomura, senior director Takeshi Arakawa, planning director Mitsunori Takahashi, main programmer Ryuji Ikeda).
Most of the details above remain the same though. We just get more clarifications on certain manners. On the other side of things though, they made matters even worse by hinting at unspoken things. I think it's an unwritten rule somewhere in Game Development 101 that torturing the fans with sentences ending in ellipses and what not is perfectly OK. Sigh. On with the show!
On the introduction of Shantotto, a black mage NPC from Final Fantasy XI, to the lineup
Takahashi: There were assorted candidates to choose from [in FFXI], like Prishe. We wound up asking the FFXI fans on the staff what character would make them the most happy to see in the game, and they all said "something Tarutaru"! Shantotto wound up being the choice from the Tarutaru available. They're a small target to strike, so balancing their hit detection was a difficult process -- we can't let Shantotto have a unique advantage, so we were messing with her right to the very end.
So where are the Final Fantasy XII characters at?
Nomura: Introducing Shantotto and not one of the FFXI player-characters was one of the surprises we've given people in interviews from the beginning of the project. As for FFXII, just stay tuned for now (laughs). One idea we had was to include an FFXIII character, but having one debut in Dissidia would lock down the image of his or her skills and so forth, perhaps affecting FFXIII in the process. As a result, we couldn't get permission.
On the pleasures of being an evil character in Dissidia
Takahashi:There isn't a story mode for the Chaos side, but that doesn't mean the story's weaker for those characters. If you play from the Cosmos side, you'll get to see the Chaos story along the way.
Arakawa: If you're trying to raise all the Chaos characters, I'd recommend waiting until after you complete all the Cosmos characters and see the ending. Exactly why I say this is a secret, but...
Takahashi: You can always use PP to access the Chaos characters early on, but you can use a certain mode after viewing the ending that will make raising them a lot more fun.
Ikeda: The Chaos story events are great, too. Basically, one side wants to destroy the world and the other wants to rule over it, and they have conferences and things.
Thoughts on completing the project
Arakawa: I'm just happy to see everything work out. It's a relief that we made the 20th anniversary safely.
Takahashi: [The hardest part] was balancing -- not just between characters, but between all 100 levels and the equipment they may be carrying. It took a long time, and there's really no good ending point to it, but I think we're pretty confident about the results.

Comments [refresh]
That info came from the GameFAQs board but for some reason the topic which I got it from(and which I got the scans) got deleted or removed for some reason or maybe I just can't see it I dunno .BTW Sorry but the FFXII representation may not be a character, but a summon or stage either it's not confirmed it's a character(But at this stage with one character left it's bound to be a character, seeing as here is one character left to be confirmed)
fap fap fap.....I came!....
Also:
-You can choose to be on Chaos, or Cosmos side for Storymode,
-Something special happens when you hit level 100
-SHantotto is NOT part of the main storyline, however has a small alternative side
I'm far more excited about the player icons being fully confirmed than I am over anything else listed.
When they originally showed the player icons being able to choose any of the characters pictures and even showed some monsters. I assumed it would be the full enemy and character roster. It does indeed look like it will be the full character roster of every FF title(atleast up to 10,) though from the current number it looks only to be a handful of enemies, possibly only bosses.
Regardless. Not only is the gameplay itself being really well developed, but looks like you can pretty much count on almost as much fanservice as you'd find in a Gundam game. This game is a first day purchase for me and should be for any Final Fantasy fan, old or new, even if you don't like the series anymore(I'd actually be on this list and I'm still extremely hyped for this game.)
*Waits for Gino to sign his name on a piece of paper*
Wait for it......wait for it.......waaiiit!!!
*Jumps out of random bush and photocopies Gino's signature*
MUAHAHAHAHHA GINO'S AUTOGRAPH IS MINE!!!
*Rolls around the ground while foaming at the mouth*
Btw... Gino is a guy right? Just makin sure cause I've never seen the name Gino anywhere in my life so I wouldn't know XD
Oh yea I STILL CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS GAME!! 15 days till it's out in Japan... so that's like 25 years until it comes to the US..... sigh...
yeah, I've been able to include those stuff in the article. Or if not in this article, in the previous ones where they've already been made known. Hehehe! Still... Good job with the notes, man! ^_^V
Just one final clarification though... Story mode... The story campaigns... There's gonna be villain campaign or not? Cuz in the email you sent earlier, it was "Also Villians will not have a story mode only Cosmos side(Hero) characters will." But now its... "You can choose to be on Chaos, or Cosmos side for Storymode"
So which is it? Hehehe! Gawd, don't you just hate getting lost in translation?
Don't shoot the messenger lol. I'm just giving ya what I recieved from GameFAQs, but I assume it's that the Cosmos characters(Hero es) can choose to align with either Cosmos or Chaos. I'm really interested about the "special" thing that happens at level 100!
No worries, man! ^_^ We found the translations! Already edited the article, so it should show up the next time you reload the page (might have to wait a bit to refresh the server though)...
Anyways, yes, Story mode is closed for Chaos side. They're still playable though. Not sure about the Cosmos people siding with Chaos, but... I find this line from Ikeda veeeeery intriguing:
"one side wants to destroy the world and the other wants to rule over it, and they have conferences and things."
"This game is a first day purchase for me"
I thought you said that you were going to download it
Gawd I'm just geekin out sooo badly over this game... But what I wanted to ask was does anybody have some more information on the ghosting system? Like how accurate will it be and how exactly will it work? It would be so cool to be able to practice against a friend who isn't there and then whoop them next time you see them because you know their whole strategy
Man, Gameeye2, you always make my day! LOL! This is, what? The third time now you've asked for an autograph heheh! Yes, I've been counting.
And yes, I'm a guy. Gino's primarily an Italian name. Not to say that I've got roots in Italy but... Yeah, there you go... Lots of Ginos in the world. The best one is probably the Gino D. in QJ tho. Haha! :-p
Anyways, always glad to find a kindred spirit with FF geekgasms. ^_^
I'm taking Italian this year! Yea not really important but I just wanted to let loose more of what I was thinking on this game..Srry guys >_>.
Oh and I chose to bug you Gino because all the articles I ever Lol'd at I noticed were always posted by you so...XD
This article of all the Dissidia news peaks my interest the most right now... I am VERY anxious (as you can see) for this game to get localized. This game has the potential to either be the greatest PSP game ever created... or a mediocre cinematic action game that basically holds your hand through every battle (In my opinion of course). But seeing as this game has very high expectations, one little mistake could mess everything up :(
Anyways I really wonder how they're going to fit all that data onto the disks...Those poor UMD's are gonna be so obese... If possible they could release it as a two disk game at the last second (Yea yea that hurts portability I know) But if they, lets say, put the story mode data on one disk and the basic battle data on another... but that might be overkill... matter of fact thats a stupid idea just scratch that...and I don't feel like deleting all that so... Anyways...
Eh back to playing Rez (I love my Dreamcast!) for another couple of minutes before I decide to comment again cuz I just know I will.....
My guess is that it will play simply based on your level and equipment, maybe it's more in depth who knows?
Purchasing the US version :P.
Look at Gundam Battle Tactics, Royale, Chronicle, and Universe.
Each game is very large, tons of fanservice, etc. The only difference between those games and other PSP games is the fact that there is hardly any FMV(infact, only one short one in the very beginning of each.)
FMV is the sole reason that games are as large as they are. Games on the 360 like Blue Dragon are three discs because of FMV. Then look at GTA4 on the same system, graphics that blow Blue Dragon out of the water, and the entire Liberty City/NYC, very very very detailed.
So yeah. No need to worry about data. Squaresoft could put FF7 on the PSP without having to worry, they'd just have to cut down on the FMV(would need to have less FMV than Crisis Core to fit.)
