Dissidia Final Fantasy - Image 1Since our resident Dissidia expert Gino D. decided to stay home and have a few Piña Coladas, I get to write this week's Dissidia: Final Fantasy update from Famitsu today! And boy, what an update.

Reviewers rated the game 10, 9, 9, and 8, giving a grand total of 36/40, a point higher than what Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII got. They also revealed new details about the game in their reviews.

The game will take a solid 100 hours of gameplay to unlock everything. It takes 40 hours alone to complete the Story Mode. If you take your time with it, you'll probably make it last a lifetime.

Speaking of the story, reviewers praise it for being more than just a gathering of Final Fantasy characters. They don't elaborate much on that of course. We don't want them to spoil it for the rest of us silly saps who have to wait for the English translation.

The positive things reviewers had to say about the game is that controls are easy, and customization options are rich. Battle actions were also given praise. One reviewer loved how pursuit battles requires you to attack and defend at the same time, while another compared them to scenes from Final Fantasy VII Advent Children.

Some reviewers had complaints though (awww). One of them said that it's hard to keep track of everything that's going on, and another says that there are too many special terms being used. Well, if you're familiar with the various universes of Final Fantasy, I don't think that'll be a problem at all.

Can't wait for this (hopefully) to come to the U.S.

My PSP has been collecting dust lately ever since I finished Crisis Core while my DS has gotten more attention from games like Tactics Advanced 2. Though both have been pretty much ignored because of Resistance 2 and Fallout 3, which I've been playing religoiusly (along with some MGO thrown in once in a while) and RE:Chain of Memories which I bought last Thursday (Thank god I kept my PS2, not backwards compatable with PS3 T.T).

Still anxoiusly waiting news on a release date for 358(whatever the number)/2 Days and Birth by Sleep release dates.

Hopefully everything will be good. I'm still a little sore with Squeenix over the whole FFXIII ordeal.

Didn't they make a japanese demo of this game?

This sounds bad to me. 40 hours to beat a fighting game? That pushes me away from this game.

Seeing as how it plays like a fighter/action, not just a fighter, then it shouldn't really get boring too quickly.

You should also take note that whenever legitimate reviewers say 40 hours or 80 hours, they usually mean half that. It's common knowledge that legitimate news sources suck balls at video games, though not really sure about Famitsu since I really don't look to them much.

Famitsu does take payoffs I'm sure though, so I wouldn't go through them for anything but information regardless and then buy the game on how good I think it is.

it's going to take more time (60hours?) to unlock everything, than to just play the story (40hours?). ah well. just like your average final fantasy, i guess.

...but damn, this is going to be all worth it tho. will it kill them to announce an english version already?

i doubt it'll be 40 hours i have never taken as long as reviews say it'll take on any game... like 100 hours means like a day and a half

If this was an RPG then 40-80 hours is good but this isn't. It's a fighting game so I'd actually cheat for this one. After story is done I don't want to spend any more time trying to get everything.

Oh okay, thanks.

I figured it just wouldn't work because once it got to the tutorial it wouldn't proceed past the movement section. I'll need to get PS2 to PS3 memory card adapter, but the game seemed to look much smoother and run quicker on the PS3.

# The Gundam Battle series aren't RPGskupomogli 2008-12-10 22:44
They take quite some time to unlock everything.

On Gundam Battle Universe. Depending on whether you want to play through all of the Federation, Zeon, Axis, Titans, and Neo Zeon campaigns, get all the mobile suits, and S ranks on all the missions, it's got around 30-50 hours to complete everything.

Those games are amazing, too.

i hope they put in an option to keep the japanese voice overs with subtitles, the english voice overs are always soo terrible and make the game sound so cheesy. pleese squenix do it for the fans. preety please.
