Details on FF Dissidia Battle System |
Ó
Okay, here's the deal with Final Fantasy Dissidia. This week's Famitsu report on the game reveals that the short of the long story is that the gods of light, Cosmos, is locked in eternal battle with the god of disorder, aptly named Chaos. All hope for all us normal folks likes in the hands of ten warriors summoned by Cosmos.
So, as suggested by the storyline - which really isn't important since this is a fighting game at heart - there are 10 heroes in the game. Still no word on how many villains there will be, but Tetsuya Nomura has noted that the development team is currently working on getting as many characters into the game as they can.
As for the gameplay, which Gamespot likened to Super Smash Bros, IGN reports that the fights revolve around the use of individual set skills to do damage to opponents. The skills are displayed using a command list at the bottom-left corner of the screen.
The skills available for use changes depending on your distance to your enemy and other factors. For example, destroying the environments build up your character's Brave meter which allows you to access stronger attacks. Pounding (we assume combos and such) on your opponents on the other hand builds up a special move gauge, which, of course, should lead to more punishment.
The battle system also includes evasion and jumping (which should be standard given that this IS a fighting game), but it is said that the controls can be simple enough for those not into action games to fare decently. As you progress through the storyline, you'll be able to build up your character and make him stronger via levels; you can also customize your characters with equipment - Ultima Weapon come to mind?
We hope, though, that a VS mode, where the levels of the characters are standard so that even balanced fights can be easily enjoyed between friends. Wouldn't be fair if you're powered up and he's not right?
There is still no release date for the game in Japan. Since this is a 20th anniversary game made for the fans though, it's likely that Square Enix will manage to release Final Fantasy Dissidia within the year.

of all the bloody articles to possibly be first on...great. this sux. i dont even wanna be here right now
Because you are a Nintendo D!ck Sucker (DS) fan and hate to see PSP getting so many great games.
WTF is that game? We get an original Final Fantasy game and it's a bloody fighting game -_- Come on, SquareEnix, stop messing with PSP owners : We don't want REMAKES, and we don't want FIGHTING GAMES from you : WE WANT REAL FINAL FANTASY GAMES! Dammit.. -_-
Heard of a game called Final Fantasy Crisis Core?
remakes and this fighting game...I'll take it all :) Square is actually impressive on the PSP....some remakes of old final fantasies, a new final fantasy, and a new battle final fantasy. That sounds darn good to me man!
The way you Dumb***** fanboys are acting is as if you all played the first FF games, or even own the PSP to be mad for getting remakes. If Dissidia was announced for DS, you dumbtards would be saying "PSP is teh d00med!!!1" Don't act like you own a PSP and you don't like it. Be happy with your DS, leave PSP alone.
We are getting probably the best of the ff games coming this year, Crisis Core and it is not a remake, it is a new game. If you dont believe me read the previews.
Actually even Crisis Core isn't a real Final Fantasy, it's more like an action title/hack n' slash RPG. What SW means by "real" FF games is console-style Roleplaying titles (like the original FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX and FFX). Off topic: Wouldn't a port of Final Fantasy X be simply amazing? (Don't tel me this isn't possible, there's been other PS2 ports for the PSP in the past like Magna Carta: Tears of Blood ported into Magna Carta Portable. The graphics etc are exactly the same plus it even has extras the PS2 version doesn't have...
I've played all FF titles of all times, except from Final Fantasy XI (which shouldn't be called FFXI, but more like Final Fantasy Online, since it's off the spirit of the series), Dirge Of Cerberus and FFXII.
Only 10 heroes? wtf they should put as MUCH as they can to fit the whole UMD. Don't be lazy Square Enix. Please.
did you even read the whole thing? They are still trying to get as many characters in the game as they can. Besides you never know, the villains might be playable.
Yes, this is the real little lad from the infamous berries and cream starburst commercial. When I was a little lad, and I wanted berries and cream, mummy used to make me do the berries and cream dance. Now, mummy's gone. Nevertheless, I still do the berries and cream dance whenever I hear or see berries and cream starbursts. So, as a special treat on this comment, I will now do the dance for all of you! You look lovely! "Berries and cream, berries and cream, I'm a little lad who loves berrriiieess aanndd cccrrrreeeaaamm!"
I'm excited... I guess. ^^;; I love fighting games, since the good ones really push your reflexes to the brink. The only problem is... I'm a Melty Blood girl all the way now. No more Street Fighter, DOA, or Mortal Kombat. =P I'm sure I'll enjoy it-- I just hope it'll have me coming back to it at least every week or so. Anyways, off to rawk with Kohaku and Hisui~
if they remake ff6 on the PSP, all of their past mistakes should be forgiven...
just stop... you're damaging our brains.
/nod at 1ns0mn14, that's what I meant... Just wondering.. How many real RPG's (without including remakes) does the PSP have? ++ SW PS for Dodo (the sony d!ck sucker? see below and above) : I have a PSP, and I really enjoy it, and I don't have a DS (although I'd like to have one). Actually, when I went to Japan, I was wondering whether to buy a PSP or a DS Lite, but the Japanese stores helped me decide : the DS Lite was sold out everywhere, so I bought a PSP and I'm happy about it. Unlike you, I ain't no bloody fanboy.
