Desperate housewi, err, homebrew: GTA: LCS for 400 smackeroos

What with the recent homebrew milestone of the 3.03 downgrader, people have been talking about the hot topic (no, not the store, silly) left and right. Heck, even our very own Jake D. had a recent interview with the PSP Show about it. Every Tom, Dick, and badam must be itching their arses off trying to find a copy of the original GTA: LCS. It is, after all, the key factor in the exploit.

Well, if you don't have a copy for yourself, you might want to check around with your friends and ask them if you can borrow it for like three seconds or something. However, if "asking friends" aren't your thing, you might want to resort to some other... desperate measures. Like US$ 400 worth of desperation.

Oh yeah. Someone's trying to get some homebrew "incentive" by selling an un-patched GTA: LCS UMD in eBay with a starting bid of US$ 400. Just a bit more and you could use that money to buy a 20GB PS3. 400 is pretty steep, but desperate times call for desperate measures. The guy putting it up for auction claims it's in mint condition - no scratches and includes the manual and all.

So, deal or no deal?

Note: Naturally we suggest to our readers that are looking for a unpatched version of GTA LCS on ebay, look at all auctions by searching for "unpatched gta lcs" (via Read), instead of overpaying $300+. One commenter reported buying GTA LCS "for $17.99 used at Gamestop with the 2.00 upgrade", so you might want to start there first. You can also take a look at this thread in the forum to see which version of Grand Theft Auto your buying before you make the purchase.

wow, this guy knew he would make the psp news with that price, thats why he did it. do you actually think he intended for someone to buy it for that price?! he is trying to take people for suckers so he can get his 2 minutes of fame... just like people listing but mind you NEVER actually selling PS3s for obscene amounts of money. i live on a college campus, i walked down the hall and can find at least 5 willing people to let me borrow their game for 10 minutes to do a downgrade. btw they have no idea that their version of LCS is different than mine nor care...

bottom line, we all saw this extreme ebay listing coming and everyone bought into it hook line and sinker as if this guy expected to get that amount of money when all he wanted was this, people talking about him. he is an ***** and so is anyone else who thinks they need to buy an unpatched LCS for more than $20... borrow the damn thing from your clueless neighbor like everyone else!

Well, I should go to a game renting shop, hire it, and ask if I could buy it second-hand...

But I don't need it, I am one of the proud owners of a 2.0 FW GTA LCS. So, I will be the one that will lend to my friends.

You can also go to a store and look for the unpatched game by looking at the back cover... This will save you money. And it is NOT unnecessary to get it used either. In some stores, you can still get unpatched.

Actually.. that is not what matters.. :')

There are two versions of GTA LCS, the older one (that you can use) has the 2.0 update and the newer one has 2.60 I think.. thats how they know which one is which

ok iso not going to work on a 3.03. How you going to run the image without the homebrew. It has to be a 3.03 custom firmware or homwbrew enabled psp. Cant just doun load the image and then start down grading with it with running homebrew first. Have to downgrade first and psp must be homebrew enabled to run iso's

Some stores are still sellin the unpatched version as some people have mentioned. I mean I went to my local EB games asked if they had any of it used but the guy said no but I looked on the shelf and found a new one. I was a little hesitant to get it at first because I had forgotten which pictures the unpatched version had and which the patched one had. But it was only 20 bucks so I said hey, what they hay? And bought it. And it turned out it was the unpatched version BRAND NEW!! But yea, I got it and downgraded and upgraded to 3.03 OE-C. Anyway, it even said GREATEST HITS at the top, and I'm not sure if they had the patched version out before the greatest hits one came out or not but if it did, I'm guessing sony doesn't want to waste some of the unpatched versions the produced because that would be loosing money. Anyway, I'm holding on to it now! I mean I've bought the unpatched one like twice because of the downgraders and once I got done I'd turn them in. But now that I know that sony doesn't patch the firmwares well enough, I'm keeping it. They might screw up next time too xD

EB Games in The Galleries Victoria, central Sydney has at least a few copies of the correct version, new and second hand. I bought second hand for $40AUS. The staff are aware of the sudden demand.
