Jak and Daxter, the franchise originally developed for PS2, was one of the streaming video games with almost no load times. Many consider Jak and Daxter right up there with Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie in the platforming genre. Its Daxter engine continued its impressive showing when it appeared on the PSP as Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters.

Ready at Dawn president and co-founder Didier Malenfant announced the company is licensing the engine that powered Daxter to other companies. "The engine could be used to do a wide variety of third and first person games," said Malenfant, "and it would actually produce quite awesome racing games too." But no, the company isn't junking the engine it built. Ready at Dawn said its upcoming title will run on it.

» FIRST!!!!!!!!!

To notice that the title says "Jak and Daxter" engine to run other games while the picture shows "Ratchet and Clank" and the article even talks about "Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters" (AND NO, NOT FIRST POSTER).

» Hhmmm...i dont know...

Jak and Ratchet and Clank FEEL different on the PS2. Ratchet and Clank is the much lighter game where you can fall great distances and not worry about getting hurt, whereas in Jak the whole world is a bit more dense and realistic and thats how i like it.

If this were to be true we might be getting a Ratchet and Clank game that does not feel very Ratchet and Clanky.

My Kudos goes to Daxer at the moment as it's shown to be an impressive game with an enine capable of loading up Haven City Bay in, what, 4 seconds?

I'm quite ready if there are different games produced that use this engine but a little unsure about R&C. Don't get me wrong, i can't wait for this game though.

Wait, Jak and Daxter continued its impressive showing on the PSP as Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters? Bit of a typo.

» yea

by pnoy - 2006-08-02 06:39
» Lol

The only update they did was take out the Jak part out of the title and only leaving Daxter. Still the Ratchet and Clank picture and the mention of Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters. Also, just in case of any confusion (somehow), I meant my post not to be the first poster (I hate those losers), but to be first to notice the typo (did it for fun to, no recognition wanted).

» love it

i loe the engine, but i don't like the fact that there was an error where i was unable to finish the game, after getting late into the game.

» its talking about the enigine

"Its Daxter ENGINE continued its impressive showing when it appeared on the PSP as Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters. "

its not talking about the game....its saying the engine continued its success on the psp in ratchet and clank.....in other words the engine was used for that game.
