Sony's PlayStation Portable has had a healthy growth over the past few years and, as much as some of us hate to admit it it, it's partly because of the global piracy issues the gaming handheld has always been experiencing. In a statement released by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) President David Reeves to MCV, he openly recognized the piracy problem the PSP has been facing. However, during the DevStation conference in London last week, he also admitted that the trend was actually helping pull up PSP hardware sales.
Here's a quote taken from Reeves during the event, explaining his stance on the matter of PSP piracy:
There is a piracy problem on PSP. We know about it, we know how itÂ’s done. It sometimes fuels the growth of hardware sales, but on balance we are not happy about it.
Reeves also explained that Sony is set to unveil a new anti-piracy policies which will hopefully clamp down on issue. He gave no specific details on it, but we'll be sure to pick up on any new updates as we get them.

I can run UMD-less on custom firmware and get 30% more battery life. Score one for custom firmware.
I can carry my 4 games (the only ones that are any good) on my memory stick and avoid the risk of losing/damaging my UMD's on the go with custom firmware. Score two for custom firmware.
I can load PDA software on custom firmware and store notes. Score three for custom firmware.
I can run full-resolution media files on custom firmware but not on Sony firmware. Score four for custom firmware.
I can use my own old PSX games (that I ALREADY BOUGHT) on the PSP with custom firmware. Score five for custom firmware.
Sony doesn't have a "piracy problem." They have a SONY IS A BUNCH OF *****ING *****S problem.

I own 15 PSP games and only one of them sucks in my opinion. There are other games that I don't own but I know are good games as I've played them.

I do like ripping my games to disk so I don't have to carry UMDs with me. But I own all of them.
I even bought Syphon Filter: Combat Ops from the playstation store and how does sony thank me... THEY STOLE MY CHANGE!!
I love CFW because I can play the games I own without Sonying trying to sell me the same ***** a second time(ex. FF1, FF2). I can even play all my oldschool games like doom, RoTT and all my PS1 games. Plus you have great homebrew games like Stacker!
I love my PSP's CFW but whenever I tell my friends about it, playing psp iso's is the first thing they ask about but the last thing I tell them about it.

A game like Portable Ops... Hmm, the number of cutscenes was abysmal and hardly MGS-like, not because of the style but because of the sheer quantity of it and the lack of a decent story. I'd be willing to pay £10 for that.
Know what the PSP needs? An on-going series. Like, Portable Ops, but with a new mission, level and around 2 cutscenes every week. Or at least month.
That's the next step forward in games. From movies to a series. And the best way to tackle piracy as they can include whatever they want to include in the latest update.
Okay, that's a load of bs outta my ass. Yeah, it's all unrelated. But... Meh. I'm tired. G'night.

it all depends on a persons moral, and as much as sony wants to try to eradicate piracy,it wont happen.in one shape or form someones gonna find a way to pirate.

Thats Why CFW is better gives u anything u ever wanted for a PSP! So SONY can say that they are not "happY"! lol
SONY: We are not happY!! Because We are selling a lot of PSP because ppl can have CFW and play Back ups on them!! Damd it! lol (We are awfully Happy!! YAYY! Take that! Bill Gates lol)
Thats sony paper...
When they made the first Playstation on 1998 (or something) they had more "Hardware Sales" cuz ppl could pirate games too! What did sony DID?! Nothing! Just concern about it and big talk and blah, nothing!
The same here they concern , even if they wanted to stop PSP UMD(ISO) Piracy they can try , but always Developers of the PSP SCENE will always crack it up!
Sony keep concerning about it, U r doing just fine!
Show ppl that piracy is wrong, but is good for the Company , cuz lots of PSP are on sales thanks of that and CFW(MOSTLY)
Carry on!lol

If Sony unlocked its console like some suggested THEN there wouldn't be any games and the console will die(Its kind of a reason why be dont have so much games).
Still The prices are EXTREMELY HIGH they should lower their prices in order to be more economic and allow people to buy more games.
FYI: I love my CFW PSP emulator
2 FYI: Im in Mexico and PS3 games cost around 800 pesos thats around 80 dlls and the XBOX 360 around 600 with Forza 2 and CoD 3 (talk abour high prices)

Anyone remember the good ol' 1.5 days ?... Devhook anyone? or the other countless loaders that where used before custom fw. So you dont need custom fw to run ISOs...I also doubt very many people installed a modchip.
Piracy does'nt realy hurt Sony(booming hardware sales), but it does hurt the developers and users. If you pirate games then you only have yourselfs to blame for crappy releases or lack of them even.
Custom Firmware isnt to blame here, although it does make piracy alot easier and convinient than have to use loaders. Its wether you choose to pirate or not.
Anyway,
i cant see Sony doing anything software wise, most likly a hardware change.
