David Perry dares Sony to say he's wrong about UMD-less PSP2 |
Ó
Another fan-made image, everybody. (Source: Kotaku)
David Perry, founder of Shiny Entertainment and current thorn on Sony's side, is again asserting that the PSP2 is real, and that it won't have a UMD. The first time he did that, Sony's John Koller refused to comment on the matter. Feeling challenged, Perry called out Sony in his latest Twitter tweet, practically daring Koller to call him a liar:
John Koller is publically questioning my post about PSP 2. So I confirmed with Top PSP 2 developers. John, state that PSP 2 WILL have UMD.
One of these days I would actually want to write a post about the games this man makes rather than what he says. But anyway. If Perry is bluffing, then he belongs in a poker table. Rather bold of him to make such remarks, unless he really does have direct confirmation that the next PSP model won't have a UMD drive.
Koller, or even any faceless Sony rep, is yet to comment.

I dont think UMD is the way to go. Nowadays DLC is the way to sell more games and easy from the comfort of your home.
Did I say Im first post? Yaaayyyy
It had better bloody support officially playing of memory stick and someway to transfer your old UMDs. No effin way I'm carrying around 20 discs. I want all my stuff on the memory stick. So much so that I threw out a UMD from the case and store 3 memory sticks in it.
Anyway, for backward compatibility they could have it umd w/e works for them or mayhaps an external if some people prefer playing their old UMDs. Well, again w/e works for them as long as their will be lots of awesome titles IF ever PSP-2 or any new console will be release.
As long as there is this generation of people who want "cartridges" there will be both: discs and downloads ...
I rather have the actual UMD than just some digital download.
We do need better integrated WiFi rang and speed, it would take a long time to DL a 1.8gb plus game via the psp with it's slow azz wifi regardless of being able to DLing it with a PC and transfering it over. We would also need significantly more internal memory for this to work via WiFi.
On a side note I believe that if the new PSP2 is released with anything slower than the current speeds of the 1.6Ghtz ATOM processors it will be a total waste and not worth buying. These processors are small enough and power efficient enough to do the job. Back to the topic, I too rather have a product in my had say a UMD or a Blu-MD/BMD than just a DL.
yup we need both DLC and discs for these handhelds and I like to have the actual copy in hands :)
Wow, what does David Perry have to lose by 1.) Making random assumptions based on nameless "PSP2 devs," and 2.) Daring Koller to call his bluff? Oh yeah, I remember. Not an effing thing.
He already lost his dignity a long time ago.
But what if sony just released something like the psp 3000 which i was disappointed on cause they did not do much. As long as it has a touch screen for games apps and PSPPOD i will be happy.
I vote for two memory stick-like slots, allowing games to be sold on flash cards and be played in one slot with your own personal memory stick in the other slot for saves and DLC.
Sony has the technology to put games on memory sticks (transfer speeds are quite good) but cost may pose a problem.
Just an idea.
tht is a good thing 2 have because u can expand ur memory if its 2 small and then devs won't have as much restricted space.also tht looks like a sick PSP2 all it needs is the analog sticks on the bottom and a slising screen w/ a qwerty board
PSP2 should be came out with some cool features in order to attract buyers.
not just changing button or design =]
that concept looks so deliciously awesome. however i dont like the analogs up above. the screen looks MASSIVE
i like this picture more than the other one. the other one looked sexy but hared to play. this looks less sexy but still looks sexy and easear to play it should have lots of ram, flash, umdless, sliding screen. and faster internet. ill buy it.
LOL your right.. i dont think his comments are worth much value
should be an equivalent of the nvidia's ion platform with both BMD (backwards compatible) and revised MS slot (for new and old ms) and a WiMax adaptor (faster wifi ftb)
this concept is awesome but the analog sticks are supposed to be BELOW the D pad/buttons [and maybe a bit more towards the center of the console] and the buttons on the bottom would include [PS, -, +, screen, note, select, start] but it would be cool if they put more somehow lol
im gunna agree with you on that one, i wouldnt buy it, too akward to hold
Why does Perry even care so much?
He's making himself look like more of a *****.
I'm not saying the next PSP2 won't have UMD-less feature but Sony has been known to deny things that has come out before they get a chance to reveal it.
Dualshock 3 news! July 07 PS3 60GB price cut! And others.
Fact is though, Sony denies things when it releases out in the public. I'm pretty sure They also denied the release of the Home Beta as well at some point. All companies and devs do this. Rockstar also Denied GTA4 PS3 trophies. So Perry could be right, or wrong. But Sony has denied things before to state it's true later on. PS3 price cut in 4 months could happen as well. ;)
Whatever they might add to a PSP2, NO touchscreen!
What many people fail to realize is roughly 45% of the video game market is people living in rural areas where high-speed internet is UNAVAILABLE or EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. Now what does this all mean exactly? It means there's no way ANY company will release a totally-DLC console and completely alienate 45% of potential customers.
and ability to copy your old ps2 and ps1 and psp games onto its massive internal hard drive would be good. plus full speed internet (no rubbish 8011b speed) and also ability to hook up to any tv and sixaxis/dual shock 3 then i'll consider it.
