The 6-gram GPS Receiver on the other hand, is versatile enough to be combined with software, such as Metal Gear Solid Portable OPS, Homestar Portable, Hot Shots Golf and Navigation Soft.
Scheduled to be showcased in the Tokyo Game Show on September 22, the camera is priced at 5,000 yen (approx. US$44) and 6,000 yen (approx. US $54) for the GPS.

The GPS is cheaper then i expected. Maby beacose the psp will almost all the work and the gps is only a "antenna".
I would only really want the camera, but this will require a firmware upgrade :(. I remember reading something about the camera and gps files already being in 2.71 so could we somehow access them with devhook?

Could we possibly use the GPS as a Wireless internet connection? I know that by using a Wi-Fi connection, We will be able to connect to our PS3's and stream Video, Music and "Supposedly" games. With this function in mind, What if we could access out Ps3's anywhere in the world? How awesome would it be that we would no longer have to use a MSPD to store data, But we could just Stream it from our PS3's VIA a Wireless connection (Through the GPS).
Just a thought......... :-(

I think sony will undoubtably will release a new firmware for both these products even though the existing components are in version 2.7 and higher because firmware 2.8 and down have already been hacked thorugh the kernal mode which will allow umd loaders in the future for these firmwares.

Looking good. I probably won't get the camera, 1.5mp is crap and I already have a 5mp digital camera. But I will definately get the GPS, I hope it works very good.

the camera is an ok deal... its smaller than an actual digital camera. the 1.3 mp is bad but its better than no camera at all. so if u want a cheap camera that takes pictures that dont take up a lot of room on the ms why not buy one. as for gps i have no clue what good it could do other than tell you where u are while playing online or something. im not too interested in either of them tho because i dont wanna update. even tho mgs portable ops is coming out.
I want the gps sooo bad. I drive like 2hrs everyday and get lost a lot. man, I had to do a lot of work to get a 1.5 psp (buy a new 1.5 psp, put old psp in box, return it to wal-mart) Im not upgrading.

1.3 Megapixels is plenty for almost any picture. Unless you need fine detailed pictures like professional photographers, you really never use the maximum resolution of your digital camera.
Who here acually takes pictures always at 5 megapixels. Thats over 1MB a Picture. Who here uploads 1MB pictures on a regular basis? The camera resolution is fine, it will get anything you need to send pictures online, myspace, image shack or whatever. We all know there isnt a person here who uploads the maximum resolution the camera can support. And not many people are willing to purchase a larger memory card to store more photos.
...how good the quality actually is. 1.3 megapixels don't tell us anything about the quality. It's just a number.
If the quality is very good, 1.3 megapixles is ok, if not...well, then not.
It's a lot less expensive than what I expected. Keep these kool things coming Sony!!!
granted 1.3 is tolerable for an addon camera, thats what most current cellphones ship with.
i frequently upload 2mb pictures on flickr. i have a free account, but i would srtill love to host my pictures at full rez. someone should always take pictures at full rez whether theyre a professional or not. cameras are only going to get better. i have a 6.0mp sony camera so luckily i can just switch cards with the psp. but i always take full sized photos. wouldnt you always want your photos in the best quality you can get?
but back on topic. for cost effectiveness, size, and the psps screen quality. 1.3mp will be just fine. maybe offer a 2.0 version later on..

The max resolution of a 1.3 Megapixel camera is around 1280x1024, the same size as the screen resolution on my computer. Megapixels are not the only thing determining the quality, the camera could very well have near "perfect" quality depending on how far these pixles are spaced apart, and other factors. Don't count your chickens before they hatch, at $40 - $50, this could be a very good deal for a mid-range camera.
1.3mp is more than enough. no one casual person taking pictures is gonna need more than 1.3 mp.
for all of you who think the gps and camera are too expensive, the camera might be a bit high, but how many gps's have any of you seen that are 50 bucks. Thats right almost none. Other than deniska's, but it requires some soldering.

I just did a quick search on Best Buy's website, and currently the cheapest standalone GPS they have is $150 for black and white, and $300 for a colour one. The PSP + GPS combo is cheaper then the standalone colour one, and will likely have all the same features.

Sony told that they will elease the camera in september and the GPS in october. Why did they extended the date. Sony doesn't keep their word.
i dont know why kids brag about these release dates. its not like you guys going to buy them right away.

I dono if i'd really wana buy both. Thats REALLY good for both a camera and GPS,but i dono if i want the camera. I think it would b really cool if we could use the camera as a live video feed like while in games or if in the future they made aim possible on psp,it would b nice to have a live video chat wherever you go. And as far as the GPS,im pretty sure i want it. Just as someone said before,where are u gona get a GPS system for $54? Thats insanely good compared to everything else thats on the market right now.Plus i like the idea of always knowing how to get somewhere. So, we'll c. I need a lil more specs before i make my decision. O,and can the GPS serve as wireless internet anywhere? THAT would be awesome. Besides the pushed forward release date,thumbs up to sony.

well my phone has a 1.3 mp camera on it, a PSP version woudl eb useless to me. the gps is nifty for its price, hopefully it has a good interface and not some halfassed sony software flop.
i would also like to see some sort of work-aroudn to use the gps as a wireless connection for using the web browser
$40 isn't that bad considering what the device is intended for. And why are some of you saying, "This sucks compared to my 5.0MP digital camera." DUH! Imbeciles... It's not meant to compete with a standalone digi-cam. This device is made with the intention of using it on the PSP for games, probably including some ports of PS2 games that use Eye-Toy or maybe some new games that are similar. Also, think of the possibility of using this device for video conferencing. You can't do either of those with your fancy-pants 5.0MP camera or even your comparable cell phone camera. You guys are comparing devices that are meant for different applications.
Also, what's the point in a higher resolution camera for the PSP? As you guys said, you've already got devices that have higher pixel count and are better suited for picture taking. The PSP screen resolution is only 10% of this camera's resolution (480x272=0.13MP).
Face it. This camera is not made with the primary purpose of being a general use camera for taking snapshots. Sure, it can probably do it if you're in a pinch and need it to, but that's not why Sony's making it.

and for those who are asking to use the gps as WIFI antena WELL you will be disapointed, it can't serve that purpose even if you hack it. all of us should be happy even if you won't by either items, because it brings the PSP back to light, and give you more options let me see a DS punk saying somthing about that.

People like 68 said, the camera is not meant for general use. Did any of you buy the eye toy so you could take high quality pictures using your computer? NO! You bought it for use in the games and the occasional shot outside of a game.
This is basically EyeToyPSP not your stupid 5.0mp camera replacements. And it's $50. Your camera probably cost upwards of $400 if it's any good.
And Jon Doe he meant that you can only see that much on the screen at once. Sure you can have it zoomed out but OMG, it's not at the full resolution at the point OH NOES!

Here's to hoping Devhook will support them both. Although I'm not really sure how, since although there are .prx's in the 2.71 firmware now, I don't see any way of accessing either of these. (GPS-internet browser Camera-I guess something could pop up under photos when it's plugged in to access it)
they are cheap, portable, can have a use of games and this means it is a good point in havin 1...

ill definitly be getting the gps after BOOSTER works his dev hook magic on the new firmware that is very likely to be released to mark the occasion...hopefully the new firmwarw will be out on the the same date as the camera giving BOOSTER a month to emulate the new f/w.......

camera is 1.3mp but its an eye toy also so around $50 for it is really a good deal. and GPS too cause i see GPS around $400 so with psp $250 and gps $50 then its a good deal lol
