Dark-AleX.org forum closes, is Dark AleX leaving too? |
Alek, the Admin and Webmaster of Dark-AleX.org, has announced that they are closing down the sites forum after more than one year of existence. The Dark-AleX.org forum is the home of Dark AleX's great homebrew releases, a place for various developers to chat and exchange ideas and a great reference for the homebrew community.
According to Alek, there are many reasons why they want to close the forum :
The forum, by itself, has been a challenge. A challenge that, without any doubt, has exceeded all of our expectations, and
a challenge that now, after all that we have been through, we find ourselves happy and proud of having gone this far. However, its, professionally
speaking, a moment for evolving and taking ourselves a little time for relax and so we can study whats next.
Since the beginning, the people' answer has been something amazing and indescribable, something that we won't have enough grateful words, and that fills us of satisfaction. This support has been so huge that we have found ourselves overwhelmed, and when we wanted to give the deserved service for each user, we have gone into problems and we have got to take this hard but consistent decition; that, the same way as we wield a smile when all this was starting, this last decition makes us sad, but we know that is the best choice at the moment.
Again, thanks to all, to our moderators, to our friends, to our old and new partners, to the English Zone and their help to this project, and everyone of you that have helped us on any terms.
So for now, we bid farewell to one of the great PSP homebrew resources on the net. But what will happen to Dark AleX you asked? Well, you'll never know...

Wow, wasn't expecting this, even though DA has been kinda of absent from the scene in the past few months.
Game Categories (Revision: v4) plugin has been out and other things. Slow news... As for DA, its all GEN from here. Also for people who know that memory stick speed up option is gone in GEN 5.50B. you can use the 3.71 fatsmod for 5.00 M33 and it works.
What is the most popular custom firmware in use these days? I have the latest M33 on mine, but it hasn't been updated in ages and I can't use the PSN store any more, so I was kinda wondering if everyone else had moved on to something else. There seems to be a few newer alternatives out there but I haven't been following the scene that closely.
IMO Dark Alex has been gone for a while now.

You should try it its not that bad and with all the plugins that Total_Noob, Davee, Bubbletune makes GEN firmware pretty good. All that would rank it up there with M33 is the speed up mem stick option. Don't go with MHU 5.50 sense it is just a crappy hex edit version.

I'm not happy using a second rate CFW, I hope DA is tinkering in his shed on a new M33 update. It cant die! Maybe he just took an extra long summer holiday...

in due time when the psp go will be released, i'm pretty sure dax or a prodigy would be able hack their way through... or not. xD

I doubt it. First of all the battery is built in so no service mode via battery. Secondly it has firmware 5.70 way above 5.55 which also has not been made into a network update. So no 1000 or 2000 PSP Cfw. Lastly the 3000 has not been cracked just exploited. So with 5.01 patching the ChickHEN Kernel exploit I doubt that there firmware will have any chance of another exploit from 5.51, 5.55, and 5.70. Anyways the PSP Go looks like crap, no umd, and too expensive for a change from a more expensive umd player to a 16GB memory.

He should atleast said good bye with one last update
It would have been epic if right after you updated,
and it finished flashing the firmware that
instead ,of shutting the the psp that you would then have to turn on and tada!!!,
he should have put the announcement there, so it would be an epic final M33 cfw firmware.
That would have atleast kept people happy, cause it would be so epic, but now, it's just a crap message from Alek.... Not even DA Himself!!
I can only hope that Dark Alex will continue with CFW! We need him now more than ever!
We are falling behind sony's OFW very fast now..
Take a month off DA and then come back with a vengeance!

Who cares if they are slow on the news, at least they report it. If you don't like and appreciate what they do here then why waste your time coming back for disappointments ?
The fact that all PSP Go games will be stored internally or on an MS means that they can be updated at will to patch exploits.

He's done it in the past with his last 3.40 OE-A CFW then came back with some russian hackers.

I don't get why D_A surrounds himself with so much secrecy. I know he owes us nothing, and we owe him a lot, but he could (didn't say should) just say "guys, I won't work on the psp anymore" or "keep watching", or anything...

This is why I will not be putting my programming skills towards developing on the PSP, and I'm sure a lot of developers feel the same.
Hope DAX is still staying. He the one of the best developer in this PSP scene.

i dont really want to use gen cfw, No offence to the creaters of Gen but its just not m33. Im still on 5.00m33-6 i hope Dark-Alex will still make cfw
but if he retires we will just have to live with it suck it all in and upgrade to gen cfw
This really isn't "Wiki News" but seeing as there is a traffic increase with the wiki, I figured it will fit here: The forums are closed down due to expenses. Dark-Alex isn't leaving the scene or forgetting about us. So please don't have the "mental image" that he's ditched us for good. The forums are only down, the rest of the network isn't. If you have any issues, feel free to contact the staff throughout the network. ~~
Dark Alex should update the community of what's going on and whether he's on hiatus or just stopped making CFW completely. Just because the forums are down doesn't mean he's gone, but if he is he should at least say so. He's still awesome either way.

I think he'll be back soon, i find it quite hard to stop developing for the psp, its the only platform i like to work on and im sure DA is the same way. Just a matter of time...

I was on IRC with some guys and admins of Dark_AleX.org and they said that DAX isn´t leaving, soo lets se what happens later....
Lower barrier to entry and skimpy QA on PSP Minis means an influx of useless but exploitable apps. I can only imagine one luck but careless bedroom programmer becoming an overnight millionaire from everyone downloading their app only to run an exploit through it.
Hopefully they are just sick of everyone whining and complaining cause they don't know how to install an update of cfw.

if you guys dont recall, GEN is, or was, just a nice little hex edit of M33, with some of the new modules, how long can that last before the flash is filled up.
That was 5.02 GEN not 5.50 GEN they were not hex edited the were reversed engineered from M33. 5.02 GEN had added stuff that was removed in 5.50. 5.50 MHU was hex edited that is why half of the things don't work on it and the M33 driver is broken. So the scene is not dead just thrashed with fakes and rumors.
hope he got a new m33 update release.. gladly to know hes not quitin making new CFW.. horray m33 much better and stable... no offense..
