Damnation dev team damned, laid off |
Ó
The entire team of Damnation (PS3, Xbox 360, and PC) has been laid off, following "issues" with publisher Codemasters. According to reports there were a number of lawsuits that were filed before the sackings took place. Allegedly, the root of all this was when Blue Omega was "taken off" their own game by Codemasters, including another dispute of Blue Omega with two subcontracting studios.
Another factor for this sad state of affairs would be the dismal performance of the game Damnation.

They are the 21st Century version of ACCLAIM.
I feel bad for game developers who release lackluster products today. I mean, back in the day, if you released a crappy game, no one cared and neither did the devs. They did it for fun more than money, because of the low production costs and less skill and effort required to be put into games.
Now, typical budgets are in the millions and and development of a single game takes 3+ years on average. They put all this work, and no one buys it. Sure, it probably did suck, but these people need to put food on the table...
I guess that'll teach them to actually think about what they make now.
And all the crap in between, I doubt it. Damnation was supposed to be a Steampunk GoW, but it had no cover system, bad accuracy and hit detection, braindead squad mechanics where your comrades would get themselves incapacitated every 5 seconds, and 6th gen graphics...and they expected people to buy it. I wouldn't even recommend pirating it.
Gears of war is GeOW.
GOW is god of war.
And i get what you were saying it was SUPPOSED to be a good. game
yeah I read it thinking god of war and then the cover system idea didnt work.
GoW belongs to God of War.
You know Codemasters published this game, they didn't make it, right? All the bad games released under Codemasters recently, ie Damnation, Turning Point Fall of Liberty, Leisure Suit Larry etc. were all published by Codies, not made by them. All the games developed in-house by Codemasters are all pretty good, some of the best racing games ever made IMO. Colin McRae Dirt, Race Driver Grid, TOCA, are all great games. They're also making Operation Flashpoint 2, which looks pretty badass
i thot it was gonna be a good game but i dont even have it and i hear is sux
Heh, one of my friends rented Damnation a few weeks ago and he gave me updates every 30 minutes on the atrocities he was witnessing. He said he'd rather be trapped in a hell where you're forced to fight the Sniper on CoD5's Veteran mode forever than to play this.
And I'll say that I enjoy Damnation. It's not the greatest game ever made, and it certainly has its flaws, but it's not as terrible as some make it out to be. It certainly does give a fantastic sense of vertigo, and the draw-distance is endless. If you're not the type of person who finishes something with 100% trophies on the 2nd day after purchasing a title ....then I recommend a rental. It's got its charms, in my book. They went through a lot of art-design troubles to achieve a unique look.
Best word to describe this game and everything about it lol
This game is so bad you can actually watch official trailers on IGN and the game's own site and notice the glitches and terrible hit detection and AI. Doesn't get any sadder than that, when you can see gamebreaking problems in 30 second clips
I also rented the game recently, it's easily one of the worst I've ever played.
Has got to be the dumbest sentence I've read in a while.
And I did. Design is bad. Motion detection is bad. Weapon system sux (but the steam idea could be pretty cool). < 10 mins into the game I had to put it down and thank god it was a rental. Look, Eat Lead was millions times more fun than this game and it is not even a superb game. Damnation really sux.
GeOW? Who the hell uses that?
GoW is GoW. Say it to a playstaion player, it's god of war. Say it to a xbox gamer, it's gears of war.
Different types of games, but Gears > God
Yeah Codemasters' racing games are well made even if I don't play them much myself (prefer Burnout Paradise).
Certainly when I see GoW I think God of War. Gears of War doesn't even register in my mind, probably cos the game made barely any impression when I borrowed my friends Xbox360 for a week. Found it pretty forgettable.
