Crytek: Free Radical working on "dream projects" |
Ó

The acquisition by Crytek seems to be going great for Free Radical, er, Crytek UK. Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has revealed that they've pretty much given the developer free reign in what projects they're pursuing.
While remaining secretive about the dev studio's new project, the Crytek CEO said in an interview with Develop that they are "working with Free Radical on things that they always dreamed to do."
"We are providing the team a roadmap and the chance to grow," he added, "which is why we were picked as a partner, and not anyone else.”
So, anybody up for a Timesplitters 4 using the new CryEngine? It was one of the games Free Radical was reportedly working on before they became Crytek UK. Hopefully we hear something more concrete about the studio's new projects at E3.

Why doesn't CryTek just start making games, then release them in a few years when PCs that can actually play them become affordable.
I think the Crytek buyout was possibly the best thing that could of happened to Free Radical! Honestly, it brings them a fresh group to bounce ideas off of, expertise from those same people AND it seems like the parent company is letting FRD do as they please project wise. I really couldn't think of a better deal for them as a development team.
It's been a while since we've seen timesplitters. a new iritation using the crytek sofware could be pretty friggin awesome actually. May get to show off more enviroments than jungle, cause just think of its play style. could be interesting. must watch indeed
Davee released the 3000 HEN.

I was a TS fan since I saw it on PS2 back in 2000. Honestly, never got a chance to play the first one, but got the 2nd one later and then Future Perfect. Love those two games and was saddened when they shut down Future Perfect's online servers.
Crytek randomly, but thankfully buying out the remnants of Free Radical was great. Now, they can continue to make excellent FPS titles on a great engine.
The great mysticism of TimeSplitters was that, like it's spiritual predecessors, Perfect Dark and Goldeneye (of which shared the same engine, and TimeSplitters ran on a modified Goldeneye/Perfect Dark engine) it broke the mold of conventional FPS.
I mean, yeah, FPS didn't start getting bashed by mindless sheep until the Halo period (2001-2007). CoD4 came out in 2007 and stole Halo's thunder, but FPS began catching flak, for being unoriginal, uninspired and too repetitive.
I saw no negative qualities in either of the two TimeSplitters games I played. The only bad thing about TS2 was that you couldn't jump and it had no real online support, but it did have 16 player LAN play. TSFP had online but no jump, but it added soooo much more to the game. Vehicles, great map editor, almost over 9000 character skins (150, but close enough), a crapton of gametypes (which were more than just cheap variations, all were unique and fun).
The game was as fast-paced as Quake and as fun as Goldeneye. I just don't know where to stop with the praise. The game's writers were some intelligent mofos with their constant obsession with monkeys and tons of references to other well-known and obscure media as well as surreal self-references to previous games Free Radical worked on.
I was saddened that a lot of Free Radical was laid off in the management shuffle, but I hope most of the key, long-time staff are still there and will keep TimeSplitters the way it always ways.
And wow, I just typed a Bible of TimeSplitters here...
i hope free radical makes a game with like a butt that like swims around in the ocean then a fish farts and someone is boogie boarding and the fart bubbles go in the butts mouth
Come again? I built a gaming PC 2 years ago for £500 that runs Crysis on Medium settings.
What is "affordable" to you? A £100 Netbook? A £15 calculator?
you raggedjimmi deserve a happy smile on yah *clicks on it*
I think the new engine is awsome! Very very optimized for all 3 systems but for PC has more features! Plus I think it looks awsome already Cant wait for a game to be released using that engine along side with Rage that will be a good compintention for the companys. :)
