Control schemes for Final Fantasy Dissidia and Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days revealed |
Ó
For those of us lucky enough to be able to take part in this year's Jump Festa, here's something you should take notice of: the control schemes of both Final Fantasy Dissidia for the Sony PlayStation Portable and Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 for the Nintendo DS. Since you'll be partaking in the playable demos of both titles and all, you might as well know how to play 'em, right?
Looking at both games' control schemes, it seems that Square Enix pretty much know what they're doing, in terms of third-person character control. Final Fantasy Dissidia's control scheme is your basic attack-guard-jump button layout with the analogue controlling character movement, as well as a wall-run button and an assistant technique button. Things are a little bit different with Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, with the DS's shoulder buttons pinch-hitting as the lock-on button when you press both of them at the same time. Here's hoping it toggles.
Here's a rough-and-ready translation of both control schemes:
Final Fantasy Dissidia:
- R: Guard
- R+X: Evade
- L: Lockon/lockoff
- D-pad: Camera rotate
- Analogue: Control character
- Square: HP Attack
- X: Jump
- Circle: Assistant technique
- Triangle: When there is a move marker, you can do a wall run and jump
- Start: Pause
- L: Move camera left
- R: Move camera right
- Press L or R twice: camera resets behind player
- L+R: Lockon
- D-pad: control character
- X: scroll through command list (attack, magic, item)
- A: perform command
- B: Jump, double tap for double jump, press with direction after jumping once to air slide
- Y: Reflect Guard, press with direction for dodge roll, after jumping press with direction to glide
- Start: pause

Thats why the PSP needs another analog.. you CANT use the camera AND control your character with one thumb.. hello! Stupid devs should keep L or R to lock the left analog for camera rotation. Its not like you'll be using both the D-pad and Analog to control both movement and camera at once anyway. (I know you can use your index finger to move the camera in games like MGS Portable Ops, but thats awkward and inaccurate and I doubt it will work in a game of Dissidia's pace) I think the D-pad would have been perfectly suited to use for blocking and dodging.
the dissidia game will control a little like god of war chain of olympus demo on psp. the kingdom hearts game will control a little like ff crisis core.
if you have real skizzles you could have your index finger creep up to the D-pad. Also let's just hope they give the camera half a brain.
