It's confirmed. Electronic Arts has indeed laid off a number of employees from its Tiburon studio. EA has been shedding staff since late last year.

"The economy is affecting every industry including ours and we need to tighten our belts and reduce our operating costs," said EA's Craig Hagen, who handles government affairs for the game publisher.

The number of affected employees remains undisclosed, but Hagen mentioned that some of the reductions may have been achieved by freezing open positions. The reductions would reportedly not dramatically affect with Tiburon's slate of titles as well.

"Tiburon remains one of the flagship studios for EA Sports and will continue to be the home base for the leading sports franchises like Madden and Tiger and NCAA Football," Hagen said.
