Confirmation On UMD Tools Authenticity?

UMD ToolsWe just got a mail from a guy named Psycho regarding the "leaked" UMD Tools - we reported about it not too long ago. Until now, it still was uncertain if the tools came directly from Sony or the PSP's SDK. Psycho apparently claims to know a bit more than we all.

According to him, the UMD Tools package is authentic, it's the same software that is used by the big movie studios to make UMD Videos. He emphasized that the software is not able to do anything besides UMD Videos, and because of that, is not related in any way to the PSP SDK.

The software can create MPS files with multiple audio, subtitles and chapters, and generate the necessary XML files to make the menus work. Furthermore, the leaked version of the UMD Tools package is a late beta, v1.5 RC4. The legit software version studios can buy from Sony is now up to v2.0.

Psycho's knowledge comes from his participation in the beta testing phase of the program. He says that all of the leaked software is legitimate, although some programs seem to be missing, "
RCOVIEWER" and "PlayListComposer", the latter being the most important as it is the program necessary for actually creating the UMD by creating the PLAYLIST.UMD file found on all UMD video discs. RCOVIEWER compiles and checks the .RCO files found in the RESOURCE directory, but it might have been incorporated in another part of the software in the RC4 and final versions of UMD Tools.

Finally, he states that there could be use for this program by the homebrew scene since it is able to create .PMF files. People have already successfully created true UMD video-formatted disc images, the program generates .IMG files which can be converted into .ISO.

As with the previous post, anyone who links to the files will be banned. This is leaked commercial software and its possession is obviously illegal. Nevertheless, feel free to continue to speculate and comment.

yea....kinda figured that it wasnt fake....

since it makes pmf files and all these files that are Sony files, that only them (and movie) companies seem to be able to make....hopefully someone will actually fully utilize the tools......even better quality than pmpmod? possibly....let's just hope.... good job to the guy that leaked it!

Making the .pmf files is really easy. Here are the steps: 1) Use a program like VirtualDub to trim your video. 2) Use DivXPocketEncoder to resize it to "480 x 272." 3) Use "avi 2 wav extracter" to extract the audio of your .avi file as a .wav file. 4) Use any program such as Nero WaveEditor to convert your new .wav file into another 16-bit, PCM, Stereo .wav file. 5) Use VirtualDub to decompress your .avi video. 6) Use VirtualDub to remove the audio. 7) Use UMD Stream Composer to make the .MPS file. 8) Use MPS to PMF to convert the MPS to a pmf. 9) Use PSPSet 0.9 to flash the .pmf file onto your PSP's flash. I have already made many cool gameboots.

I need to make a correction...

In the above post, I wrote a tutorial to easily make .pmf files. There is one correction that I need to make. In step 2, the required program is "PocketDivXEncoder," not "DivxPocketEncoder." The word Pocket comes first. You guys may use different programs, but I think these are the easiest to use.

Here's more details on the AVI files:

It will take .AVI files, but only very specific AVI files: Frame Rate: 23.97p, 29.97p and 59.94i Frame Size: 720x480, 352x480, 352x240 or 720x486 Codec: YUY2, RGB24, Huff-YUV, DV-AVI (Type1, Type2). That's the only things it will work for movie files. For creating .PMF files, all the above applies except the Frame Size, which HAS to be 64x64 minumum to 480x272 maximum in increments of 16 pixels. (It can't resize a larger video file to the 480x272 resolution, you have to do that first.)

one working iso

in the article it says; ..."People have already successfully created true UMD video-formatted disc images, the program generates .IMG files which can be converted into .ISO."... i really would like to know how they managed to convert those bunch of .img files into one working .iso ?!?
by - 2006-07-26 22:04:32
Making full use of this.

You can create the MPS files by Encoding and then Multiplexing your source streams. Then find a UMD ISO and "extract" it (turn it back into a folder system) and then replace the largest MPS files in there with your custom ones. Then delete all the other MPS files. Lastly, use UMDGEN (www.umdgen.com) and create an ISO which you can run with DevHook. Welcome to the world of hardware decoded 480x272 video.

IMG files...

The image files _ARE_ .ISO files. When you create the final image with UMD Tools, you have a series of files, one or two will be: USER_L0.IMG USER_L1.IMG If you only have L0, that's your ISO, just rename it. If you have both, just concatenate them, and you have your .ISO. That's all you have to do. In DOS prompt: COPY USER_L0.IMG+USER_L1.IMG MY.ISO
by Psycho - 2006-07-27 00:11:10
Damn..

Ooops, that copy command is wrong, should be: COPY /B USER_L0.IMG+USER_L1.IMG MY.ISO (The /B is very important...)
