There has been some concern from various groups regarding the ability of popular gaming consoles and handhelds to access the internet. While it is true that these devices normally have some built-in safety measures to limit the internet access of a minor, it may not be enough to stop a child who insists on accessing inappropriate websites and content.

Enter censorit, a new online service which provides content filtering for £4 (around US$ 7) a month. Unlike most content filtering services which usually only work for PCs, this service can also be used on the Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, Sony PlayStation Portable, and even the Apple iPod Touch.

The service works by installing a proxy client on the handheld or console which not only blocks blacklisted websites but monitors internet access on the device. The account holder (i.e., parents or guardians) can manage the websites that the child accesses through a personalized webportal provided by the company.

If a website is blocked by censorit, the child can send a message to their parent by clicking on an unblock me link which pops up when a website is prevented from loading. The parent can then go over the site and see if he or she will allow their child access to it.

While we can't vouch for the effectiveness of this service, censorit seems like a good tool for parents who want to make sure that their children don't access inappropriate content while surfing the net. For more information on this service, feel free to follow our source link below.

No

Another cheap cash in effort for people seeking to get in on another niche born from over sensitivity of politically correct parents. Avoid.

Fail..

Ineffective.. This wont work on a PSP atleast. Can be easily bypassed no matter what they do, based on my knowledge of current PSP workings.
