In this industry, we've see quite a lot of promotion stunts - some good, some okay, others just plain weird. Some even went so far as to cause a bit of controversy, if one recounts the rather visceral promotion of a certain game that involved scantily-clad women and a goat. However off-beat they may seem, they're there to put their respective games into the spotlight - and Capcom hopes to achieve that with Monster Hunter Freedom 2, by sponsoring an honest-to goodness monster hunt.
Yep, Capcom's going hand in hand with the Center of Fortean Zoology (CFZ) to hunt down two elusive monsters in Guyana - namely the di-di, and a 40-foot anaconda.
For those not quite up to their mythic beast lore, the di-di is a South American version of the Bigfoot, rumored to have sharp claws which it kills cattle with. The expedition itself begins in November, with the guys from CFZ leading the hunt.
While it's certainly not quite the weirdest hunt out there, it does raise some questions - namely, about the monster of choice. Why not aim higher, Capcom? Something like Nessie, or the Abominable Snowman, or maybe even the Chupacabra would have made a bigger impact. But in any case, here's hoping that the expedition does turn out to be a success, and we get to see the find for ourselves. Let's just hope they don't kill the poor thing and make clothes out of its fur, like what you can do in the game.
