Capcom on Challenge Room design contest for Bionic Commando: Rearmed |
Ó
As if it wasn't enough for old-school Bionic Commando fans to see their favorite 2D platformer remade for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, Capcom has recently announced that it will be holding a Challenge Room designing contest for the upcoming Bionic Commando Rearmed.
Contestants can try out their level making skills by creating a Challenge Room out of the 10 basic building blocks featured in the game. There are also some set rules and basic physics that you have to keep in mind when designing your level.
Winners of the contest will get the exclusive privilege of seeing their name highlighted in the ending credits of the game, as their level becoming one of the featured Challenge Rooms in the remake.
Here are the details about the different building blocks you can play around with while putting your level together:
- Wall segment, used for walls, “unconnectable”. Encasing the entire challenge in solid walls is mandatory, although holes in the ground work as an obstacle the Player may be required to overcome.
- Roof and floor segment, used as floor and roof, “unconnectable”
- Basic platform, the Player can hook onto this one and scale it
- Retracting platform, folds into the wall after a set period of time so the player gets disconnected if he has hooked onto the platform, or makes the player fall down if he stands on top of it for too long. Parameters to set is if it will be automated or start as the player connects to it, how fast it will move in and out. They can be timed to create sophisticated puzzles.
- Start/finish line, cross the finish line and you trigger when the challenge starts. Cross the finish line and the challenge is completed. Having a start and a finish line is mandatory.
- Air vent, makes the player leap 2m into the air and 3m forward as he walks over the airgust.
- Retracting platform, same as #4, but twice as wide.
- Block, used to hook onto and “pull yourself towards”, or to hinder the Player from advancing
- Spike block; if the Player touches this one he instantly dies
- Moving platform, a platform that moves back and forth between to points in wanted direction; either horizontal, diagonal or vertical. Speed is adjustable.
If you're still unsure how the contest mechanics are supposed to work, you can take a look at the video trailer explaining everything below.

Bionic C. original is a very good and difficult game - Glad someone decided to bring it back to life. The way Contra should've being made! Graphics looks very good and sound is OK. I dont know if anybody remember Mischief Makers for N64! I always thought Contra and Ninja Gaiden should be remake( 2D on 3D )with that same features.
Hey, wasn't that the old platformer with that robot maid as the hero? I watched my friends play it a lot on the N64 some time back and it looked pretty fun. :)
This game will not be released on PSP...you'll only be able to play it on a PS3 or via a PSP/PS3 hook-up through the Remote Play option.
...a very steep move by CAPCOM since it really shows a lot of PSP potential.
Not just the PS3. 360 and PC as well.
Well, sooner or later they will have to port it to PSP, even after we all get tired of playing thru PSP/PS3
