Some brave hackers stormed Gamescom last week to find out if Sony's latest Europe-only PSP model, the PSP-E1000 series, is hackable or not.

At last week's Gamescom event at Cologne, Sony surprised everyone by announcing a new version of the PSP. Dubbed as the PSP-E1000 series, the new model comes with a slightly redesigned exterior and a budget friendly price tag, but lacks WiFi functionality. Though the console is not yet out of the market, some hackers was able to grab hold of the device at the Sony show floor to do a little testing.

As posted by the folks at PSPGen, the homebrew running on the device is actually signed. It should also be noted that the firmware installed is the previous firmware 6.50.

The PSP-E1000 will be available in the European market starting this Fall for only €99.99.

It's Signed. What did you expect to happen? Did you think this PSP was programmed to reject Signed applications?

Does it still have the 3000 screen? I could use a new PSP but I'm not going to buy one with this terrible scanline filled screen.

*sarcasm* But you don't understand...those retro scanlines are supposed to give you an ARCADE feel, and have nothing to do with SONY using cheaper and less adequate parts. You should be thanking SONY for bringing the arcade experience home!

Arcade CRTs don't have that effect. It's blended a lot more smoothly.

The guy in the video holding the PSP seems to be a bit nervous... his left thumb finger is trembling all the time haha! maybe he is afraid to be caught by some of Sony's gorillaz? :P

Yes - I noticed this while watching... He must have had lots of people looking out for the Sony staff - or even distracted by something shiny or simply telling them that Sony products are crap.

Props to the guy for having the balls to do it literally right under Sony's nose though!
